Fall is the perfect time to add trees to your landscape due to more frequent rains and cooler temperatures. Today we will be adding a 'Princeton Sentry' ginkgo tree to our landscape in the backyard where we will be able to enjoy its beauty from the patio. Join us as we get this beauty planted, along with a few maintenance tasks that will pay off in the spring.

I have just been talking with my husband about planting a ginkgo tree! I'm so glad you did this video. We've been doing it right. Whew... Good morning guys! Just a bit of advice. In our acidic NC clay soil, it's best to give ginkos a good dose of lime. They do best with a higher PH soil. Giving them a good dose of lime every year will keep it at it's happiest. It's advice I was given by Mr Maple, who grows a bunch of ginkos here in NC.

Hey guys!! It was such a joy to meet y’all,I drove an easy hour and a half just to meet y’all! I’m so glad we came, my mom and I got to chat with Jerry for quite a bit and we got to have Jenny pick out plants for my house! The sunshine ligustrum won my heart! Whenever I plant trees I use a small level against the trunk so I know it's planted straight. Then the wind comes along and spoils my well-intentioned plans. ☺️

I have a beautiful Gingko tree in my yard that is almost as tall as my oaks. We have only owned this house for a few years, and I honestly did not know what kind of tree it was. We have always called it the eucalyptus tree, because you know we had to name it something lol. Heaven forbid I google it and find the real name. I saw Laura’s video on it and got so excited to know the species. You will love this tree, it is unique and beautiful. Thank you for the information on the larger size tree. Although, knowing me and my husband it will always be the eucalyptus tree.

This new bed is where you need to plant all of your dahlias that you are getting from Laura. That would be a beautiful location and you can see them from your back porch. That is just what came to my mind when you said you were building a new bed there. It will be a beautiful bed located there you will get much enjoyment out of it while y'all sit on the porch and look over your new back yard after all the changes you have planned. I would put Jerry in the dog house (🤣) for “NOT” telling you that tree was crooked “BEFORE” you put all the soil around it. With all the trees I’m seeing planted and having put in 5 thujas, I’m getting so antsy to get our maples in. Thank you for the planting lesson. We won’t even putting the 4 ft root balls in , but I will definitely make sure they are planted higher with Bio-Tone and top dress them after the guys put them in. I think we have deco on Autumn Blaze…squee, so excited!!

Hi Jenny, Your garden looks so nice and is going to look extra nice if your dream manifests. I live in the UK and have 2 maples in planters and was wondering if I should plant them out but then I thought well now we have a greenhouse they can easily be put in there for the winter without having to dig them up, so I think it better to leave them for now until they get bigger, they are about 2 years old and about 2 and half to 3 foot tall. I have a weeping willow planted out and I remember last year I thought it had died but I left it and it came back to life ... thank goodness. xx

I have always wanted a gingko tree and will be planting one this fall. The leaf structure is so beautiful and the fall color can't be beaten. Did you water the trees after planting and adding mulch? Thank you so much for this video. I really appreciate all your instruction on planting trees, flowers, etc. The kidney-shaped bed will be awesome!

We have those here in North Texas and one thing i can tell you, the limbs break in wind storms! I see them even splitting down to the trunk! It's happened all over my neighborhood and in others. Beautiful tree but i would never plant one near my house. Heck no,

My understanding is you want a male, not a female, ginkgo tree so it does not drop the smelly fruit in the spring. Is that true? And if so, it would be a good thing to reinforce for folks? We love your channel!

Keep in mind one day you will be senior citizens and lawn is easier to mow than gardens are to mulch and tend to, take it from a senior citizen who once had gardens all around the trees and slowly took them out for grass that is easier to take care of.🥰

I love the drone footage, we live in a gorgeous state 😍 Question, I have centipede and it creeps and sends out runners so I would have to have a trench around my tree. Does fescue get into your ring around the tree? And I love that maple 🍁

Good question! It won't creep into it like centipede will, but when J seeds the yard I will have to pull out all of the thousands of baby grasses.

... I can clearly envision your island bed connecting all the trees! I want some small island beds in my backyard for small shrubs and perennials, albeit an "nth" in size compared to your property. My daughter in law wants a nice cherry tree planted in her yard, but it is so hard and rocky, I would never get a hole dug deep enough. Any other solutions for a lady who lives in Sevierville Tn ?

We have a new planting bed prepared. No plants in yet. I would like to have a tree in the center. Would a ginkgo tree work without restricting the growth of shurbs and plants that will be in the bed?

Absolutely! Since it is a slow grower it won’t overtake the bed, and with the columnar habit you will be able to plant more sun loving plants near it.
