Gen is amazing. She plays tournament golf (well), makes quality videos/edits them, etc., and tracks all her shots on the course with a smile on her face. Continued success!
These type of videos have been the greatest help to my game. Strategy, planning and attitude have made golf so much more enjoyable for me. Thanks again for all the tips!
She had an awesome round! She would be smiling even if she finished bogey, bogey. She is such a positive person I have tried to adopt that when I'm on the golf course. Bad shots happen but you are playing golf, its fun. Way to go Gen!
The lessons given here remind me of an interview I read years ago with a pro. He was asked what he thought the main difference was between pros and amateurs. "The amateur looks at the ball and thinks, 'what's the best way to hit the ball from this lie?' The pro thinks, 'what's the best way to get the ball into the hole from here?'" I always keep that in mind when I go out to play now, and I'm glad to see it's still advocated by top players like Ms. Ling. This was great to watch.
Genevieve, I m able now to consistently brake 80 using this type of tips. I was able to accept that I do bend my left arm in the back swing and that by doing so have helped improving my swing. Thanks.
Congratulation for closing the championship at BV at third place. So close to getting an automatic qualification in Symetra tour. Keep knocking Gen. You can do it. Gen Boleh.
Your opening comments are something I am finally realizing after many many years of golf struggles!! Soooo true. Thankfully I found you, Golf Sidekick (I think you both have the same teacher) and Marcus Bell and I am working on MY swing and more "golf is fun...not work".
There is so much value in your videos Gen. You can't stress enough how golf exposes one's way of thinking, and also insecurities and sometimes not too positive aspects of the personality. That's why a cheater in life will always be a cheater on a golf course. I agree 100% with you about the importance of knowing your golf as much as you can. My golf coach is very adamant that I just focus on the trajectory visualization. Being more of a fade player, I learned to take that into account when selecting my stance on a teebox. And being reasonably skilled with my short game (after some very hard work I may say...), I play some holes differently than before because I am confident I can work as long as I am not too far trom the green. You talk a lot of the mental side of the game, which is a massive contributing factor to our performance. I know it took me some years to realize I was not "fit" to competitive golf because it makes me focusing too much on the scorecard and not on the fun of the game. So I basically took that out of the equation (a massive difference with you as a pro because by the way). I never do the math, with the scorecard and to me a good round would be when I had : some great shots (whatever the kind : can be a drive, a crisp iron, a creative recovery, a great putt), some good holes (even with a bogey) and a good "strech" (when I can have 2/3/4 decent holes in a row). lower expectations (for me) is pivotal to produce my best golf. Thanks for the videos, you are a star Gen!
Congratulations Genevieve on your final round at the Bella Vista Tournament. You really came through under pressure! I must admit I always enjoy going to the WAPT Gallery and checking out your recent pictures. Your golf outfits are unique (I've never seen anyone else wear them), colorful and attractive. The manufacturer certainly chose the right person for the modelling job! You must have received a lot of nice compliments from fellow players and spectators!
Congratulations Gen at NWA Charity Classic tying for third place, awesome round 4. Your best performance so far. You have improved after each tournament. This is amazing to see.
I appreciate your approach and passion for this game. You dont struggle to express your ideas and I love the shrug and grin when you dropped your 15ft birdie putt... ha
I believe one of the major issues for us weekend golfers is are thought process before we hit. Great video Gen, mentally plan your shot and hit with confidence.
Brilliant video Gen👍🏻 I could listen and watch you share these tips all day. You have brought the gifts of reflection, self and course management and confidence to my game. Thank you😊
Another really helpful vlog, thanks Gen. I really enjoy your 'grass roots' advice on strategy, course management, mind-set, etc. You deliver it in a way that is totally relatable and simple to understand/adopt. AND you do it with that sweet smile. Thanks :)
Thank you, Gen. I found that very helpful. It explains why I frequently make better shots from difficult situations than from the center of the fairway. So now, I'm off to play and try not to hit shots until I am committed.
Loved that you break down golf to little simple mind like me :-) Got a question for you.... What do you think when you decide to tee up with a tee or without a tee? I know with my iron, I do not use a tee on the tee box. But I may want to know what I miss by taking this decision.... maybe a video to talk about the subject.
This is great advice. I usually say, “stop playing hit the ball and start playing golf.” A stock shot is the least likely shot you will ever hit on a golf course.
This is one of your best. Great information and thought process thoughts. With most US courses wide-open during the day, you have more time to discuss what your thinking on the course. Good luck today.
Great video. I also love the course management and aiming videos. I find that those can really make a difference with just a few more seconds of thought per hole. If you're taking ideas for videos, I'd love to hear about what a pro-am is like.
Thanks, Gen Great tips, the mental thoughts b-4 teeing off is so important and overlooked. And I agree the better you play the more fun you have golfing. Sending best wishes your way. 😎
Great to hear inputs from a pro. My two cents on playing better golf: 1) manage expectations and expect bad shots - I don't care if you're a scratch, low or mid capper - everyone will hit bad shots. 2) limit swing thoughts - go to the range before hand and see which swing thought is working for you. Max of 2. One would be better. 3) think 10 times before shooting at the pin - even pros don't shoot for every single pin - getting on the dance floor and 2 putting for a par is just as good as shooting the pin and making 2 putts anyway. 4) don't be discouraged if you get a bogey - everyone makes a bogey - just avoid doubles (and triples!). 5) there is a start and end to each hole - play each hole individually - if you made a birdie - forget about it, move on to the next hole. Same goes if you make a bogey or double.
Wow! … Tied for THIRD! at the Bella Vista 👏🏻 … BIRDIES on SIX of the last eight holes! 👊🏻 More importantly, 168.75 points! … placing you 13th in the points race! Go #TeamGen You can DO it!
Interesting! When I go through the process, I hope to acquire a calmness where I feel everything is OK for a particular shot. I have a target. I never worry about the outcome. Yet, after the shot has been played, I often feel that perhaps I was not 100% committed, if that makes sense!
I'm thinking hamburger two seconds before I trigger the shot - haha, just kidding... great tip Gen, like you said pick a small target. I do a full swing just like the real swing, if that swing did not feel good, swing it again. go up, look at the target again, then go for it.. for me.. it is all my take away... if I can remember to trigger a slower take away and finish the swing.. it would be a good one.
I agree with Gen's point, but I admit that when I lay down to sleep at night, I dream of one day being able to swing the golf club like she does, even it's one time on accident lol
I think about "Is my clubhead aligned up to the direction i want to hit it" "am i standing square to where i want to hit it" "Is my grip good" "keep left arm straight and dont bend elbow on backswing" :D doesnt work haha
Right before I “pull the trigger”, I think “start the club back with club face closed (facing the ball) and club head outside of hands” The rest of the swing just happens. It happens too fast to think about “positions”, so I just think about the START of the swing. Then I think about tempo … “1-2-3, then HIT!” What do you think? 🤔
Short and right seemed like the proper miss on the first hole to give an uphill chip. Long and right seems like the main place to avoid. Short side downhill ....
Another great video Gen. Nice play in AR this week. I have a Q for your swing caddie SC200. Does that unit calculate club head speed? I get very different numbers based on smash factor, like Clubspeed 111mph smash factor 1.32, clubspeed 102 smash 1.46. I'm confused clubhead speed of 110 for ex is 110 whether you shank it or flush it, right, ball speed would vary of course?? I need to try a swing speed monitor that works with no ball. SC200 doesn't do that.
Confused. What is your target on drive of par 3? Mine would have been the front of the center of the green? Also what about hitting off a tee? That is higher trajectory for me. Just had a lesson on this so I am curious on your take.
@Steve Coffey I think she is trying to tell you to go with what YOU are comfortable with. NOT what a pro would do or think. There is no wrong decision if you are playing to YOUR abilities. We are all putting too much unnecessary pressure on ourselves to be pros. We aren't pros.
Apart from the lie, I’m thinking about my next shot all the way walking to my ball. Because I have a general idea of how far I’m out from the hole and I have a general idea of what club I want to hit. the only thing I don’t know yet is the lie. So it really doesn’t take me long to get up there and hit it unless it’s a poor lie then I do have to think more.
