In the latest clip, Play explained how he transitioned into teaching at universities. He admitted to losing "pretty much everything" while he was suffering financially. While on tour for a gospel stage play, he was invited to Miles College where the school's president hired him as an artist in residence. Due to his work at Miles College, Play had teaching tenures at North Carolina Central University and FAMU. To hear more about his work at HBCUs, view the above clip.

Shit becoming a teacher at an HBCU is a damn good career. Funny how losing it all can be a blessing in a disguise in the long run if you stay strong.

I agree. As an introvert, it's hard because you have to escape your comfort zone. Thankfully one of the FEW useful things I've learned in the Military is how to type a paper, display professionalism and make eye contact while speaking "proper" outside of my deep southern slang. I wish more black people got into using social media for networking more than using it for ignorance.

As a graduate of an HBCU, it is so refreshing to see our artists contribute to the learning experience now. You don’t know what student will develop a career that positively impacts the world as a performer or a businessperson from going to the artist-in-residence classes. There should be a national artist-in-residence program specifically for HBCU’s sponsored by SAG and other similar international organizations. Spike, make it happen, Homie!

I’ll never forget back in 04 i was in college at NC A&T and watching House Party in the dorm room with 3 of the homies. Later that night we go to a party at UNC Greensboro. As we’re walking up to the building it’s dimly lit. A man and woman are leaving the building walking towards us and as they pass us something strikes me as familiar. I stop in my tracks a few steps later as every thing clicks. I turn around and yell “Play!” The man turns around and throws a hand up to wave…We had no idea he was on their campus for a speaking engagement that day🤷🏾‍♂️
