*Playing in tough games* Everyone knows that in order to be the best you have to be willing and able to play with the best. In this episode of project get me stackin' Evan Discusses some strategies for playing in tough games, what to look for, what to avoid and when it may be time to get out altogether. buff.ly/1wmEaFE
I hadn't seen him act like a calling station before hand, he played a pretty solid game. I would think 55 would be folding too but w/e, flop was dry so I thought a check raise would look stronger than just leading out.
merson snapped ak even i could see the spot unravelling and it started when somebody 3 bets light regularly and you widen 4 bet range then feel comitted to all in
Read his 3-bet as light so I 4-bet. Technically I was right. When he called I thought his hand was something like AK/AQ suited or a pocket pair. I thought a check raise would be the best way to get him off his hand. If all he had was a pair I would have 6 outs, that plus fold equity made it seem like the best move to me.
Thank u so much, i started like 2 weeks ago, seriosuly playing...with no bankroll online..on full tilt, and i just won today my first tournament for 1 dollar entry, and won 366 dollars, a big part of this was because your guide on MTT, and i really need to work on my cash game moves, i find myself making very little profit on those, im just starting on 0.02 and 0.05 stakes, and i dont see too many advanced players, but its defintely good to be prepared for those. THANK U SO MUCH AGAIN.
Based on your discription, my read on the individual would have been AK off suit or small pocket pair. KQsd in this position you should have folded following the flop. Why? Because you would have protected your investment, rather losing more of what you have behind. Based on what you had your only outs would have been catching a backdoor flulsh (if spades were on the flop), if not you were pretty much drawing dead. Just my opinion ...
Im a hyper lag who adjusts so well to peoples game and i can tell you that playing tight is just about the worst strategy you can employ against me. I can thin value bet bet, make big laydowns, bluff the works.
Was getting 3-bet often by a new reg at 2nl, folded to his 3 bets until this point. I'm holding KQsd. He 3-bets me, I 4-bet and he calls. Flop comes T52 rainbow. I check to him, plan is to check shove over his donk bet. He bets about 1/4 of the pot. I raise and he shows up w/ pocket 55 for a set -_-... Aside from the results and my rage, I think I had a good profitable plan. Any opinions are welcomed.
+ 4 betting pre out of position then checking the flop when you miss is weak imo,Least you had a plan (in position would of been preferable) villan even though his play preflop is weak but the 1/4 bet can induce people to spew there chips in with a shove and a snap call. villan got lucky most of the time you win as hes folding his holdings of 55 every time he misses a 5 which is ?
flat the 3bet, especially if you have position... KQ is obviously way ahead of his 3betting range, and if you hit a TP or OE... you can just get it in vs his wide range of folds, and weak Pair hands
"Like folding AJ UTG in the early stages of a tournament" I can't believe he teaches this and I can't believe he would proudly repeat it like this is good advice. In the early stages of a tournament when the blinds are cheap you have MORE room to gamble. Because of this peoples ranges are wider. AJ has a significant range advantage over what people will be playing. Furthermore decent players recognize a UTG raise as a STRONG play and you might even get better to fold preflop. Teaching beginners not to play this is ridiculous. Newbies should be playing 55+ and A10s +. Your range won't be 'too' polarized and you will have decent play-ability post. ALSO F THIS... If you're new, go and play the cheapest/hardest tournaments you can. You will be a losing player for at least a year regardless.. Go make friends with people who know how to play and ask them to help you. The poker community is actually very supportive if you want to talk about poker strategy seriously not just tell bad beat stories.
In response to lfk's comment about not playing in tough games +Ifk 1899 I 100% agree that as a Value Hunter, finding the best games is your top priority when it comes to the profit category. That being said, when you want to work on improving your play, then sitting with the big boys to get taught some lessons is never a bad idea. My advice keep it at something like a 4:1 ratio, soft games to tough games if you're in an improvement stage. And more like 8:1 or infinite:0 if you're purely looking to bring up your profit margins. Great tips lfk!
You should be losing money from the blinds. You're OOP and against the wrong people at the wrong tables you could get in some nasty spots for the sake of half/one BB
sending you an email Evan and hopefully you can tell me something im unsure about, il write it here incase you see it..... im a winning player in all areas except the BB and unsure how to adjust from the BB. i know most if not all players are losing from the sb and bb but feel Ive got the sb covered from re-stealing from the stealer :) and have got +$ on the sb just need some info on the bb
cant see him flatting AKo to be honest... why wouldnt he just shove it all in?? seems more like a 1010 JJ hand to me... hoping for a non AK flop and getting it in... terrible play i know, but thats how people play those hands at these stakes.
Don't you think that being honest with yourself and what your edge is at the table is important as well? I mean sometimes your just not good enough to be playing at that table and need to swallow your ego and move down to a level you can beat. At least that's what I think.
raging at 2nl?? bit crazy, 3bet often over how many hands?, you where right to 4 bet with the info you gave, as 55 is almost ALWAYS folding to a 4 bet preflop. At 2nl if the villans a calling station 4 betting with just KQ isnt profitable unless you actually hit and go for max value on every street, = fold PRE and Tighten your opening range until you have more info on how he plays. then adjust accordingly.
