I played runescape from 2004 to early 2012. I also played Warcraft 3. I spent probably thousands of hours developing a runescape scenario inside warcraft 3. I had hard coded almost two dozen skills. Modeled and animated hundreds of mobs, equipment and magic spells. I created the entirety of the F2p map with the addition of canafis, ardougne, camelot and catherby. I had close to 30 quests. A tutorial island, NPC players, and four bosses. And not a week before releasing an alpha version to the warcraft 3 website, my house caught fire when my neighbor decided to deep fry some chicken or some shit out in his backyard, tipped the thing over and set half my house and his house on fire. Luckily I was in school when it happened, but I lost everything in my bedroom. My poor little emachines was a pile of melted plastic and burned metal. I gave up that day and ended up forgetting about warcraft 3 and continued playing runescape until early 2012 when I quit and went to college. But seeing this video randomly pop up on my feed gave me a hit of nostalgia.
You played during the best time bro, you should look up OSRS And come back and see all the new content they've added, they realized they fucked up with EOC in 2012 and OSRS is a hit!
if its any consolation, i've spent a very long time making an incredibly refined WC3 map. people played it, had some fun, but there is no legal path to monetization on there. Made a few bucks at most. The earlier you got out, the better tbh. I'm burned pretty bad from game dev after this experience.
Read your comment and felt for you brother. I was really happy to read what you've done but then tragedy hit. I'm glad youre okay though. Also, Ive been playing since 06 and for years I've gone back and OSRS. At first it's the Nostalgia, then you keep playing and realize that OSRS is fun and chill asf to play. Oldschool Runescape is better than ever my friend. There's still good endgame content coming out that I havent even touched and more is coming out. It's the only game I'm really playin rn with what time I have. I'm playin on my iron with friends and its addicting.
Yeah that sounds like a quick way for jagex to have a reason to fuck over j1mmy alright. Not sure private servers are ever a good idea for any well known RS youtubers who have/had affiliations with jagex directly.
@NolifeXTC True, this really isn't technically an RSPS, though you are probably correct in that Jagex wouldn't be stoked about it. Such a shame because j1mmy content on this server would be stellar
Atleast some RS youtubers have displayed the Runescape Minecraft server without problem. I am not sure but wouldn't this be similar case since they pretty much use same attributes from game this server does.
@@5umm3rday yeah some, but the creators that HAVE showed this stuff, ARE much much smaller creators...... if you have someone like jimmy do this, it would be on Jagex radar within 10 minutes of the video being posted to jimmy's channel..
It crazy how far Player Devs have come when its comes to exceptional Pservers like Ascension, TurtleWow, and now WofRS. They have yet to fail to amaze me with how innovative and unique their game builds have proven to be and how much it speaks to their skills, these types are the ones who should be behind what is modern wow retail and classic. Their not afraid to take chances and do everything in the their power to produce results. They are definitely at the level of even the most popular Indie Dev teams in my opinion. While its regretful they must do everything pretty much in the shadows and in a limited fashion as to not incur legal actions taken against them, Im glad to have been able to experience a little of their game builds as much as i have.
I have been playing on and off since i was 7 years old... 21 years.... DREAM !!!!!!!!!! How awesome is it to just see how big the houses are being a true adventurer! literally have said i wish WOW and Oldschool Runescape would combine !!! HOW COOL!!!!
I started playing RuneScape in 2002 until 2005 when the allure of the famous game World of Warcraft finally got the better of me. I remember the sense of amazement when I finally made it out of Norshire Abbey and looked into the Elwynn forests trees and I remember thinking damn this is amazing... I wanna chop these trees. Anyhow as I kept playing and getting my butt handed to me I learned that I could equip a wand on my priest. I went to Stormwind city and asked in trade for someone to make me a wand, some guy finally messaged me and told me to get him some "simple wood" and he would fork up the other materials (the dust unbeknownst to me at the time). Anyways I went back to Elwyn forest and to the Eastvale Logging Camp in search of a hatchet all the while thinking that a random hatchet would be spawn onto the ground and I could simply pick it up and I could finally chop down the trees and get the simple wood for my wand. I kid you not, I spent about four hours running around looking for the hatchet on the ground. I don't recall when I finally gave up I think I might have passed out in front of my keyboard that night looking for that hatchet. Was a nostalgia trip I'm getting as I am writing this comment. This project is going to be amazing and I can't wait to give it a try.
This is the coolest thing I’ve [ probably ] ever seen in videogame. A crossover between my 2 favorite games. It’s crazy to see what Blizzard could’ve done, with classic, but they didn’t The people who work on this project are amazing
So cool. I've never played WOW but it is so nice to see RuneScape in a different setting and this one looks really well done and I can tell there has been a lot of thought put into how this could work. Not some cheap feel
If only I had this back in like ‘04-‘05’, this is pretty funny/ironic since RuneScape was my first MMO because my family didn’t have internet or a PC. I rode my bike across town every weekend to the library to play there. Pretty convenient since it was a web browser based game and didn’t need to install a client (the library PC had installs blocked). I’ll definitely be checking this out when it’s more complete.
Same haha my father had internet. But I wasn't allowed to connect my laptop to it. So I made a visit to the library every weekend to continue my progress in Runescape.
Lmao my library had no blocks but reset on shutdown. Having to share the 4gb usb to install games would take half of the time between school ending and them closing
Looks pretty cool. I started with Wow as my first MMO. I tried Runescape after but couldn't deal with the graphics at that point, but always wanted to retry it. The biggest thing in this video is that I miss when we could get away with speed hacking back in Cata. Flying from SW to BWL in like 10 seconds was awesome.
With regards to the "face and text" popup in the middle, like in Runescape, I'd recommend taking a look at the addon "Immersion", if you aren't already familiar with it. It essentially does, what you're talking about, but it is currently designed for Quest and Dialog Gossip (aka the choices you can pick, when interacting with an NPC) - however, I imagine you could hook into the NPC whispers and show them. I have never played RS, but have basically been playing WoW since the beginning - and this video has me excited!
Focus on Server function as well. If this game starts popping off, it'll crash the game by the time it hits 20k people online. Great design, can't wait to see more. I enjoy projects like these, reminds me of the 1:1 complete earth that was made in Minecraft.
This is the best mix I’ve seen yet. I was a very big fan of RS from 2004 and on, but now really big on classic and retail wow. Always wondered what RS would be like in the realm of wow. Very excited!
My God The Great Exchange... I did not even knew i lost so many memories with runescape hahaha, it was so nice watching this video!!! I want to play it already!
Just love the idea of doing agility yourself. Always something I wish wow had. Like some jumping courses or puzzles. Like FF14 and guild wars. Looks amazing I’m so impressed with what you guys can accomplish with an old title 🔥
I feel what could benefit the world feeling so small is a FOW system particular outside tutorial island, as things are not ontop, maybe could be achieved with skyboxes and zones alignment
I have an idea about making it feel bigger too: - take a given straight line distance in runescape - walk over it (no run) and measure the time - run that same time in WoW and measure the total distance now you have a simple formula that converts distance in OSRS to WoW. I was thinking of matching the run runescape speed to WoW's but I think it would end up too cramped.
Genuine side note: Without moving too far away from runescape potentially look to add flavoured items or a skill from the world of wow that works with the theme of runescape or quests / drops for pets that grant buffs ranging across all skills from herblore to cooking to combat
I hope a lot of the osrs content creators get ahold of this, this would be soooooo fun dude, great idea. Can’t wait to see more pvp and pvm (just started the video and absolutely love this
Are you gonna talk about Turtle WoW remaking WoW in Unreal? I understand if you can't because of your job with Ascension but it'd be nice to just hear it from you instead of radio silence. Everyone would understand if you just said "Yeah I can't make a video on it because of my obligations to Ascension"
Please lets this happen soon, i realy wanna play the full version of this amazing Game :) Jaggex and Blizzard should do an collab :P Looks realy amazing :)
I don't know how many people are on it atm, but this project is gonna need quite the developer team imo. Runescape has so much content and interactions that have to be put in. Hopefully we get to start playing before 2027
As a 28 year old gamer that still plays OSRS and played WoW from launch until Dragonflight's 1st raid after the launch, this looks so promising and I'm glad to see it's in the works. I'll be keeping eyes out for any test sessions or the official release!
A few days ago i had thought to myself. Why not use the runelite api/client to grab the ingame data, than draw that into a custom client such as this. So essentially your playing osrs. Albeit within wow! If you guys need a java dev and would like to implement this in just comment back and ill post my contact details. Awesome stuff tho! This project is very exciting to see! I started playing osrs when I was 11, and wow shortly after so this hits that sweet spot!
Only because you said to be brutal: The only problem I can philosophically imagine with the entire premise is that Runescape is a good game just be AFKing and doing something else at the same time. I guess you kinda get that with the channeling effect, but the way I have to move my character around in WoW, it just lends itself to a little less of that comfort of running Runescape in a tiny window to do Motherlode while I watch youtube or chat.
You shouldn't copy RS mechanics 1:1 into the server. Walking around the world would feel awful in wow. It works in RS since you can click far away and then click again. You don't have to hold the movement key and your character pathfinds by itself. Prayer-flicking is probably a horrible idea. You should balance the prayer drain instead. Keep the autoattack-based combat and skilling. Mining and Smithing is pretty awful in OSRS, since you need level 90 to craft level 40 gear that you can just get from mobs. You should re-balance that. It would still feel like RS.
When the server releases it will effectively be 2005/2006 scape. So things like rune armor will still be highly regarded with some dragon pieces being available. But you'll be able to get rune armor from mobs aswell. Also I don't think running will be that big of an issue, teleports will still be a thing and wow has auto running implemented.
I think if I could adjust the environment, I would tweak the elevation to a higher scale. Seems like Ice Mountain is about half the size of Varrock Keep as it is now. Amazing work regardless.
When I first started playing WoW, I came from RS. RS was the gateway to WoW for me. However, I had no idea how the game worked because I hated reading. So I just ran around killing things and buying copper armor from the vendors, thinking it played the same way as RuneScape did. I didnt do quests or anything because I assumed they were like RS and took ages for little rewards.
Another person who proved to me that it is possible to do everything you can imagine in the game and I have my fingers crossed that everything goes without any major problems. I'm just sad because I'm such an idiot and I can't program to try something like that.
So this is cool. But do we ever stop and ask "why?". If it's just going to be OSRS with WoW graphics its just going to be a fleeting thing. At this time, those that want to play OSRS do so, and those that want to play runescape with upgraded graphics they play RS2. I know people have their own ideas, but this is just copying OSRS with no changes so theres little to no reason to continue playing once the "oh shiney new thing" wears off. I enjoy what modders can do, but sometimes we really have to ask ourselves "why" this is like the people wanting to make FO4 or Skyrim in Starfield.... why? there's no reason for it.
Right? Copying Runescape 1:1 is a recipe for disaster (heh). They should focus on the FEEL of runescape, while doing their own thing (don't copy the tick-based design or prayer-flicking, focus on doing better PvE encounters, while still having the simple autoattack-based combat)
It bridges together two communities, RS and WoW players. Its also not really 1:1 since you're movement is WASD and how you see the game is different. Its the relatively the same gameplay 1:1, but how you see and play it are different enough to be interesting. Its like wow players being hyped for turtle wow switching to UE5, it changes nothing about the gameplay but its a totally new way to experience the game.
Ask every company that has successfully published their own version of Diablo 2. People sometimes enjoy a type of gameplay, and changing up enough things while keeping the core very similar is appealing to a lot of gamers.
@@ScaryCreeperzin my opinion the most important thing about Turtle WoW 2.0 is not even new graphics but new possibilities to make new custom things, e.g. the end of 25 quests limit
