It's been two months since PS5 launched, and it's time we take a critical look at the console and give it a formal review. What is it really like to use and play daily? Between the console, DualSense, user experience, and games, we're gonna review all of it. This is PlayStation 5: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm in there too, for like - a minute. Not weird flex but had since day one and if you have PS4 pro your really not missing much except for PC quality on Spider man and new cod... But let's be real that's not huge motivation. Very happy to have one but it's mostly just braging rights because we all still play together them on PS4 me on PS5 and it's just slightly smoother overall...

Danny., it has enough for now, there’s like 10 PS5 only games they won’t fill 640GB. U have to use external drives for PS4 games, that’s the whole reason Sony made them compatible. Consoles r all abt exclusivity and cheap but quality gaming, so Sony wouldn’t have done this normally. Just wait a couple months and M.2 slot will be functional, at least b4 15 large PS5 only games launch.

Great job, very comprehensive! Best I've seen for someone new to console gaming. Coil whine is definitely an issue when converting AC to DC power and utilizing PWM, you need a bunch of noise filtering via reactors and ferrites, which I'm sure is sacrificed in cost saving.

I just love how with each generation of playstation, it's always a new style and has its own unqiue sounds and features. If you look at each playstation they're all very different from each other. I just wished the Series X did the same because its interface is nearly identical to xbox one and the controller is basically the same. Consumers won't feel much of a change in anything (except for games obviously) and it would basically just feel like an xbox one but much more powerful. Sure, there's nothing wrong with that but it wouldve been nice to see changes considering the fact that consoles will last an average of 7 years

well to be fair if your getting a console, your getting it for the games not for the home screen, and the Xbox series x is massively different in games because of backwards compatibility on most games plus upscaling on said games and quick resume.

@@RepublicofODLUM When you have a game update on PS3/4/5, the system create a copy of the game where the update will go and then delete the old version of the game. This is done in order to optimize the time the game takes to seek an info on the hard drive. My problem is that it has no reason to be on PS5 since it uses an SDD and thus doesn't require this kind of optimization. In fact it's even heavily detrimental to the life span of the SSD because it depends on the amount of infos you write to it

I had my ps5 since launch and I’m very impressed with the system. It’s quiet unlike the PS4, the controller is amazing it’s probably the best controller I ever used, and the loading is basically instant. I had my console crash ONCE but since then it never happened again, so overall no problems.

I am more than happy with my PS5 despite a bit of a scare within the first hour of use...but doing a factory reset resolved the issue and it has been smooth sailing since.

I really want Sony to add the "Display" feature that PS2 had. Press square and will only show the background with the system music, when you are on the User Screen or Home Screen.

The UI only feels “isolated” if you have a robust friends list. I’ve been playing in the Sony ecosystem for more than 15 years and I have about 5 friends. Three of them I don’t even remember who they are and the other 2 are family members…

Big backlog? I have over 20 games to play. Beat 5 so far. Just mainly going for story but my oh my did I miss tons of games after 2015. The black friday/cyber monday sales and ps sales were too good for classics. And awesome some are enhanced over their ps4 performance.

I have a PS5 coming in and am very much concerned about the issue surrounding having the PS4 games on an external drive. I still have my PS4, but I would love to move all my library form the PS4 to the PS5 via an external drive. But I keep reading how there are just major issues with that. Not sure what to do here as I would like to either trade in my PS4 Pro or hand it down.

Check Twitter for Target drops. So much easier to get a unit from Target since they only allow store pickup (keeps bots away). I originally scored a digital bundle from GameStop but cancelled it once I got a store pickup confirmation from Target. Felt better knowing I could physically walk into a store and get my console rather than having a USPS employee steal it

For example a guy named The Professional (Well knowned from GTA Online because he showed many guides on how to make money) had to camp at Target for a few hours in his car then when it opened he Quickly got there and he got lucky and he got one. Apparently he was scared of getting punched in the face and Somoene taking it so he was quick. Damn Oppressor MK2 Griefers. Makes our boy scared that he thinks in RL someone might "Grief" him.

I played FIFA 21 for the first time on my PlayStation 5 and the way EA implemented the triggers is when your players are fatigued the triggers have more resistance when running, dribbling, exc. Not ground breaking but very neat and a way to just immerse me even more into this next gen console I’m in love with it!!!

After two weeks of ownership of the PS5 (digital version) I can whole heartedly agree with this review. Luckily, I only had one issue with the console on it's first day - failure to sustain a connection to my wifi, but all was remedied by connecting via ethernet. Since then, I have really liked the speed and quietness of the console. My PS4 Pro was just very loud but with this console, there is no noise that I can hear. Loading screens are a thing of the past, really. The new controller is fine, but don't care for constant vibrations (depends of the title). Got the new Pulse 3D headphones which sound great and are more comfortable to wear than my Platinum Sony headphones. All-in-all a great new generation console. It's just a shame, however, that Sony's method of getting these units into consumer's hands is so broken.

I’ve had my PS5 since say one but if I’m honest - if you don’t have one, you are NOT missing out, I haven’t found any killer game at launch or in the near future that justify it over a PS4, right here right now the PS4 has a better game catalogue. This will change but I’ve tried a lot of games, demos etc and with hindsight I would have waited until, more of the killer games have appeared. I think Sony rushed it to market as Xbox were jumping early, I think Sony would have preferred another 6 months and maybe an easter launch. I play a lot of FPS shooters and I’m running COD and Destiny - PS4 versions on PS5, I’m waiting on Gran Turismo 7 - why it wasn’t a launch game only Sony knows, it’s now not even listed on the UK Sony store - suggest a 2022 release as the developer has no concept of time. Sony press machine have promised a lot from the hardware but I know I’m a broken record - there is nothing available right now that shows the hardware at its best. It’s a good piece of kit but still need some quality Triple A titles to say a Great piece of kit

Great work man, excellent review! I'm honestly gonna wait until Sony announces the PS5 Slim (which I'm sure they will given the history of their consoles) before I make the jump into next-gen. Hoping that by fall of 2022, Sony will have all major firmware updates released, a better game selection, and a slimmer console (let's face it, the PS5 is a beast!). Until then, the Nintendo Switch is my go-to console!

Couple things I’ve noticed over the past few months: The USB-A ports don’t charge controllers in sleep mode, only USB-C. The ‘What’s New’ section not being there immediately or even at all is sorely missed. The trophy list is now cards. The list was better. Almost every game has has crashed or froze at least once, Maneater crashed frequently resulting in glitched trophies. Sometimes the system just turns off in sleep mode and gives an error message on restart saying it wasn’t shut down properly. The battery compartment on the media remote is absolutely horrible to open and shut. The plastic pedestal the console rests on horizontally is wobbly and seems crooked all the time. Other than that, games work wonderfully 99% of the time and the controller is superb.

@@fbenecchi Not for that alone, it's more of a novelty that only one game really utilizes so far (Astro's Playroom). Games DO run better though, and I assume some of the issues will be patched out eventually.

I have the same nitpick with the new trophy card layout, I'm not a fan at all. I've turned to viewing my trophies on the PS app or psnprofiles instead.
