I'm 32 years old and I've feel like I've been playing the same old games for 15+ years. Not much has changed in games at all other than attention to detail in graphics and performance to run those graphics. Gameplay mechanics and limitations of things in the environments you can actually play and interact with stay the same...

Oh man... E3 2006! I was like 15 back then and I remember waiting and watching every MGS4 trailer constantly. I will probably never be more hyped then I was when MGS4 was about to come out. And personally, it delivered everything I ever wanted it too!

I remember being in absolute awe with some of these games back in the day especially with MGS4!!! I remember really wanting a PS3, then the punch of that price, but I still managed to get one at launch, it was chaos! Multiple shootings, thefts, riots at stores, resellers had PS3s going for $1750-$2000. Crazy stuff, still have my launch 60GB PS3 till this day, did alot of DIY cooling hacks and swapped the 14 blade fan for a 19 blade one, replaced cheap.thermal paste with graphite foil, replaced hot running power converter for a cooler running one and delidded the cell processor. It still going strong.

Back then the leaps in fidelity were still pretty major. Nowadays the gap between one generation and the next is nonexistent because the technology is no longer in its infancy.

I feel like PS3 was the first time internet influenced public opinion in a big way. So many people despised PS3 and Sony and it had a hard time selling after the memes. It ended up being perhaps the best overall console with the best games.

I miss e3 press conferences, even though I would watch those on a screen in home, it just became a yearly tradition to watch these live and get excited for new games or consoles and watch the crowd go crazy at surprise announcements.

@@0-A2 that killzone 2 and motor storm trailer both were crazy. It’s a shame Sony shut down motor storm during ps4 era. Cant imagine what that studio would had been able to do with the ps5. Same goes for killzone 2. My fav game on ps3. Now it’s only business and not pro gamer. Sony has been sold out to corporate shareholders.

@@andreivieira Rockstar In the Ps2 days had. GTA3, Vice city, Manhunt, San Andreas, Red dead revolver, The Warriers And Bully. Manhunt 2 and table tennis. In the Ps3 era they Had GTA4, Midnight Club, GTA DLCs, Red dead redemption, LA Noire, Maxpayne 3 And GTA5. Pretty crazy out put of games. But with RDR2 they had the whole of Rockstar working on it. Times have changed for most devs.

I miss the old time especially the ps2 and ps3 time how life and gaming was. Muilplayer becoming, not toxic, when we’re so much fun and easy to understand, now it’s just open world and too complex. I especially miss going to stores seeing banners, art and the old nostalgic yellow section saying “ps2” and seeing game ads on tvs, I miss those days. Even the graphics on ps3 was so real. I wish I can go and live those moments again

@@mtdubdachamp6917 the PS3 had a sleek futuristic design, the best exclusives, free online play, web browser, linux, you could have all your media saved on your XMB and HDD, Blu-Ray, PS Home was amazing, the original PS Store felt like a dream, it was the most powerful console even though 360 had better multiplats the PS3 had too much going for it to make it the best and most interesting console of all time

gaming turned for the worse later that generation, i would say it started in E3 2010 when they announced Killzone 3 would be 3D compitable and then began the awful network pass soon after.

True, in the PS4 generation games started to become more of a business than passion. Trailers that looked nothing like the final product. Unfinished games, lots of DLCs and MTX. No developer takes risks in making different type of games. And all the big AAA companies have gone to shit or were bought.

I bought a used Dreamcast after mine broke (my stepdad bought my original) and then I worked at McDonald’s to save money for this and i managed to come up with the money and I was fortunate to get the limited edition 80 gig motorstorm bundle and got a free blu ray and my mom bought my games lol. I felt like a kid but felt like an adult cause I spent my hard earned burger flipping money for a console that I fell in love with before even owning one! Good times

When consoles were consoles and not PC's. I miss the custom architecture like the cell processor, powerPC, emotion engine etc. You really felt like you were playing something different, something PC couldn't give you. x86 PC architecture is the reason it is easy for Sony to port first party IP to PC, because the PS4 and PS5 are PC's with PlayStation branding. This is why it's difficult for people to emulate PS3 and PS2 games. It can be done but playing natively is always better because those games were designed for that hardware.

The Cell Processor, Emotion Engine were all dogshit, the PS3 was so difficult to developed for, games ran better on an Xbox 360 because it's closer to PC architecture. Bunch of Sony stupid gimmicks, those were never good.

You can emulate ps2 games much better than the original could run on its respective hardware. PS3 is getting there pretty fast now with with these highly count of core CPU's.

Not really, back then, the ps3 was being compared to that of PC, you could install Linux on the ps3 in the early days. The PS2 generation was the last gen where consoles were consoles.

I don't know why we made fun of this E3 back then, compared to the shows nowadays this is amazing. I guess it was because E3 2005 the previous year was even better. And because Giant Enemy Crab quickly became a meme. I liked Ridge Racer, a shame you don't see arcadey racers with fictional cars anymore.

I remember this when i was still a student. It was my last year before i search for a job and i really want a PS3. Thankfully, i got the last PS3 60GB version and still have it before the 40GB version comes out. It was also 100 euro cheaper than normal, can't remember why. Maybe because of the bad sells.

i was 2 and half months away from being 17 when E3 2006 took place. Back then, we couldn't watch e3 because streaming kinda sucked and youtube could only do a poor 240p. I remember having to wait like 5-10 minutes to stream 10 minute youtube video.

Man I actually cried when they discontinued the Dreamcast. I had got it for Christmas of 99 and man it felt so next gen at the time. I had never seen anything like it at the time and it was so ahead of it’s time. I still wish I could go back and make it to where Dreamcast lasted long enough for a sequel console or at least an updated one to compete with PS2
