Great info. would love to see a dyno comparison showing iat/boost/power differences between the two types.

Better yet would be datalog of Street driving, track and drag strip

Usually the consensus is Bar and plate did street and Tube and fin for the track. You really don't want a tube and fin in stop and go traffic in warned weather.

I found out about Plazmaman right after I got an ETS intercooler kit for my FD3S.... I regret it. I took a big hit to my radiator cooling performance as well as more lag.

Air-water for me- with the addition of chemical cooling it's ideal on a street car, especially with modern packaging like TT V8s in a smallish sedan. There's a reason everyone making nutty factory power these days is going that route. On most modern cars the available frontal area for cooling exchange is not much, and there's not a lot of room for things like fancy V mounts on a street car. Street cars already need A/C and engine cooling, so makes sense to have a minimal exchanger for both (condenser effectively) and a radiator, and then to use those two fluids/gas to cool the remaining components. Similar to electric supercharging which hasn't really taken off, or better yet, hybrids- maximize the use of the energy being produced in excess. Turbos reuse thermal/kinetic energy, most cars have the ability to produce a relatively significant amount of excess electrical energy that can be stored obviously, and also reuse kinetic energy in braking to store as electrical. etc etc etc. I won't be surprised to see small displacement engines soon that are hybrids with on demand electric forced induction, to allow the car to have quite literally < 100hp in most situations, and only normal current draw. I assume the weight of batteries and the improvements though in alternator control make this sorta silly an pointless generally. But a fun project on an older car, or to spice up hybrids that already exist. Would be really need to have the electric motor from lower speeds where the torque is needed, and ramp in forced induction at highway speeds, where most hybrids are... lacking. Think Toyota Sienna Hybrid. It desperately needs an extra "kick" occasionally, and the electric powertrain just doesn't do it from anything but nearly stopped.

I've seen some intercoolers have the tubes with a wedge design towards the incoming air supposedly to help direct air into the fins (which makes a lot of sense) have you guys tested these tube design?

Do you really need a 100mm thick intercooler to run 600whp in a skyline GTR? I have been looking at your 76mm, would that work ok? Going to be building a great street machine over here in the UK. Thanks in a advance!👍

Rule of thumb. Go as small as you can without hampering gas velocity dynamics for both WOT and throttle response. Instead of a $100 monster of eBay, spend $1000 on a quality unit that can perform as good as a larger profile. Unless your another one of these drag queens... In that case, eBay will be fine.

During dyno runs my falcon turbo with 650hp plazmaman bar and plate IC always has the same power output on all 3 runs. During dyno days my car one of very few to not have power loss after each run

I don't understand why there is such a discrepancy between US and AUS regarding intercooler construction. In the US it is kind of a given that Bar and Plate is better and the best intercooler cores (Garrett and Bell) are bar and plate, but in AUS the idea that Tube and Fin are better and the best intercoolers (Plazmaman and Hypertune) are tube and fin. Is there really no way to know which is better??

Well..always some 2blade swords, aye? I would trust US or garrrett for tuning, but then again I would very much trust Aussies for tuning..

*after cooler
@MyYamahayz

Intercooler (inlet) after cooler (after inlet) such as the case on heavy duty diesel engines where the aftercooler is mounted internally in the intake plenum and cooled by the engines coolant.

@@MyYamahayz It's called a CAC in the diesel world. Charge Air Cooler. Intercooler is really meant for compound setups where the charge air is cooled between stages. We all call everything intercoolers. All good.

Very odd how you're saying tube/fin better yet a top tier intercooler company like PWR/C&R use bar/plate and claim it's better than tube/fin. FML
