In this episode, I wanted to dive deeper into a small PLC project and cover the creating of the circuit as well as the program from A to Z.
The tutorial covers the connections you will need to make in order to setup your PLC for sink or source inputs. Furthermore, I also cover the connections you need to make in order to connect a simple push button to one of the inputs.
On the software side, I’ve covered the XIX, XIO as well as OTE instructions. These are the most fundamental building blocks of ladder logic programming and allow the user to inspect the current status of a bit as well as set a particular output high.
Don’t forget to like, share and subscribe for more tutorials.

I'm trying to catch up on bringing these to my site for those who want to download the program, see the code etc. Please be patient about that. If there's anything specific you'd like to see done with these, please post it in the comments!

Such a nice presentation .

Great video and well explained. One thing that should be changed is that the stop buttons should be wired through a normally closed contact and use an XIC instruction in the program. This provides a fail safe if for any reason the wiring to the stop button fails the valve will not turn on.

That's a very interesting observation. I've seen both done in the field (stop button being normally open / closed). However, I always preferred to maintain consistency on the hardware side; meaning that the start and the stop button would be normally open. With that in mind, the button can always fail close or fail open. In either case, there's always an E-Stop circuit with dual redundancy which can be used in cases where failure can cause harm, so I've never seen a stop button failing to be a major issue. Good point though.

EEEnthusiast I also have seen both N/O and N/C contacts used on stop buttons. In Canada, at least in Ontario, the standard tends to be N/C contact. Just differences of opinion. Ultimately your dual channel safety circuit is your fail safe. Keep up the good work and I always enjoy your content. Long time sub.

Right on! Appreciate that; sorry again for being gone for so long. I'm also glad to see that some of my viewers are actually familiar with PLCs!

This video brought back my interest in plc. Where can I watch more videos like this

Hey Ryan, I actually decided (a while ago) to create a new channel based on PLCs / HMIs. You can find it here: ru-vid.com/show-UCs3AEdsXBG3-HYvghcjhdfA

Thank you for the tutorials. I took this course in CC and wanted to continue on in this field. Where can I obtain that project that you used for this video?

Hi . Thanks for this video. Very informative. I have one question. You showed us how to address the HMI switch using the Binary (B3) but you never showed us how to set up communications on the HMI end. It appeared you already had that set up? Can you explain how you set up data transfer from the HMI so when you press the virtual stop button it activates the B3 binary address in the PLC code? hope this kinda makes sense.

Great tutorial - two questions, 1) Do you recommend getting used Micrologix 1100 1763-L16BWA for self training? Do you know some vendors or sources 2) Will you be continuing this series? Thanks a lot for making the tutorials :)

Hey quoit99! I do recommend the Micrologix 1100. It's a great PLC for learning purposes. If you have a higher budget, I would recommend getting into a 5000 series PLC. I'd recommend looking on eBay, the prices are low and you have a return policy in case something is wrong with the processor. I am actually making a lot of videos and content for PLC related stuff, but I decided not to post it here. I've started a new website, youtube channel as well as a full PLC course under the brand SolisPLC. Send me a message, I'll give you more info and free access to my class.

I get a fault when I change to RUN mode. It only works in REMOTE mode, recognizes the input, but no output.

Ok! I can read in Russian, but have a hard time writing (don't have a Russian keyboard either.) To answer the question about French, my family moved to Canada (Montreal) when I was 10, so I had no choice but to learn it. That being said, it's hard for me to say how much effort you need to put into it. My parents, who were 40 at the time often mentioned that they had to take classes in order to impress the French ambassadors. French is extremely important if you plan to immigrate to Quebec. I can maybe answer some additional questions as much as I can; feel free to email me: vladromweb@gmail.com

Thank you for answering my question, Vlad! You're a lucky guy to have such parents. They did a great choice to leave Russia. There's nothing to do here, under the rule of a dictator. Thanks for giving your email, appreciate it. Keep doing amazing videos on RU-vid, you're a great teacher. Best wishes to you and your family!
