Next time I’m in Santa Cruz I am sooo gonna get a burrito! This particular painting is really special. The staccato brush strokes and intuitive colors are masterful.

The short chiseled strokes on the main wave really define the energy of the wave. Having more random lines and textures make it feel in motion. On the other hand the longer and more measured strokes of the flat reflection of the water on the sand and the sand itself, depict less motion and appear more calm. A great contrast of textures to tell the story. Nice!

Whoa Michael, the painting turned out awesome! What is super interesting to me is that the relationship of the subject (waves) to the foreground and background. You gave just enough detail and pattern in each portion of the painting to make it feel like I'm there using my eyes to look directly at those waves. Beautifully done!

You truly captured the atmosphere of the cloudy day. I love the gray tone you used for the wet sand. It carries the feeling of the day from the sky to the and. Great job. I love it!

I like the feeling of transparency in the upper part of the big wave, almost like looking through a light green glass bottle. Also Maura's painting(s) had a nice combination of purple and green.

Great work by all of you. Michael, great painting. It seems like you’re growing with each painting. The work you’ve been doing in the hills is coming through. Love the non obvious color scheme of green purple and orange. Very sophisticated. I like the smaller waves too, how they break up the space. The weather seemed tricky as well with the sun coming in and out. Well done.

I really enjoyed how this day evolved, and in the end you emerged with another great painting. In many ways I find overcast and gloomy days to have some really interesting colors to offer up.

How do you transport the painting in a wet painting carrier though? Do the edged not touch someting? In the studio your painting does not look damaged at all.. how is this possible?
