Salaam bro. If u cut the lip off the mcalipine trap dab a bit of ct1 and get the rubber washer in then tighten onto the strainer. Usually does the trick. 👍

That ply backing to the WC should only be considered as a temporary fix as it will eventually rot out. It would be better to do the permanent job without the toilet insitu, which will involve the other trades, so now the toilet will again require removal. Cast iron drainage goods are of a higher standard than cheap pvc and I don't understand why the WC connection could not have been replaced into the ci soil pipe.

I disagree the old cast iron needed to be replaced and there is no issue with the ply behind the toilet 🚽

@@PlumbingDoctors I stated that in principle ci drainage was a higher standard than plastic. The video stated that the problem was a lead branch from WC and therefore it seemed that just this branch needed replacing, retaining the ci main soil stack. I can assure you that the ply will rot out as it was not prepped in any way and would have been placed against a solid(?) 9" brick wall, where the likelihood was that any moisture in that plasterwork would affect the ply, notwithstanding that there was a significant risk of interstitial condensation between the ply and the wall, especially as the toilet cubicle would have a higher RH and that was reinforced by the proximity of the WC.

@@mob9334 I'm not a tradesman, I'm an Architect (non-pract), who has been designing, detailing and inspecting building works over the last 50 years on all building types from small domestic through to major industrial, retail, hotel and historic building projects. I am also considered by others to be an 'expert' on building construction and have assisted in major litigation. I have also carried out major refurbishment works on my own property, including brand new structural framing within the building shell, the vast majority being carried out by me. I practice what I preach. I commented on this video based on my expertise in the subject to give better inform views.
