Hi guys. This is a little video using a D=35mm 3 flute insert cutter and the PM940 CNC mill.
The inserts used are the APKT1604- MA3
This is a ground carbide insert for soft metals.
Generally I don't use the 35mm cutter much as the smaller ones work better for ruffing most the time and the larger face mills are better for facing.
For this job however it's is just right.
For this cut I needed to remove .250" from the stock and I wanted to see how the 940 would do with the stock motor and gearbox.
With the VFD at 95Hz I will have about 2,800 RPM and with the larger 35mm cutter the surface finish was really good. I could have gone much faster but I didn't want to junk anything right now, I need the mill to cut parts.
I know the camera focus is all over the place, I forgot to lock it.
I will do more on the insert cutter in the future.
Thanks
Dave

Are you still building and selling the 940 conversions?

Do you make a kit for the PM 932?

I have a cnc masters Baron, looks very similar. Think your z axis would fit it?
@ArizonaVideo99

The nut wont fit. The CNC masters is a RF-45 clone. Its one size smaller than the 940. I will be doing the PM-932 later this year and its much like the CNC masters.

My 940 has been chattering with any cut like that, not sure what the problem is. I finally switched to H1 speed (1000 rpm, 1/3 geareddown) with a 3/4"x3" roughing endmill and am able to cut .120 radially by 0.6 axially. I think I have some very tough 6061 block as well. My motor is 1hp though.

I dont understand why you only have a 1HP? The inserts and RPM are really important. The 1604 are sharp and cut freely. Some times lower RPM will cause vibration. 6061 looses heat treatment over time so gets softer so a really old block might gum up more. If your face mill is 3" then your DOC will need to be lower like .030" or less.

@@ArizonaVideo99 I put a 1HP 143TC motor on there because I need to run on 120v for now. My electrical box is full and to get 220 into the garage is going to be a lot of money. I noticed the 6061 is kind of gummy. Part of the chatter was running too slow, at 1000 rpm it was not fast enough to fling the chips off the endmill. Works much better at 3000 rpm.

@@DallasNutsch WD-40 is good for small jobs if the smoke is OK. Just water with a little soap and cream rinse is good too. No smoke but you need to clean it up so you dont get rust.

Dave, what rpm is the 3ph motor on your pm940?
@ArizonaVideo99
@ArizonaVideo99 3 года назад
It's the stock motor if you get a 3phase. 1750 RPM 2 Hp with a 19mm shaft. I'm going to stick a 3650 3HP on for a few weeks, not to use in the long run just to see how loud it is at higher speed. After that it will be belt drive time.

@@ArizonaVideo99Thanks Dave. I found a 2hp 3ph motor with a 19mm shaft and it's the right size D-flange that will fit the pm940. But it is a 3600 rpm motor. Do you think the 940 will handle it okay?
@ArizonaVideo99
@ArizonaVideo99 3 года назад
@@halfstep67 It will be fine. You have really low gears so the low speed will still make good torque and you will have nice high speed. Might be worth changing to a light oil like 5WT synesthetic. under fill it slightly.

Is there cheaper version of this mill?At what price we look with your cnc conversion?
@ArizonaVideo99
@ArizonaVideo99 3 года назад
The IH is no longer sold. There is the PM-940V and the new PM-932V which is a good value. I upgraded the spindle bearing to AC on the IH mill and run 5 and 6K most the time. The stock bearings on the 932 are TRB and good to 5K. You will need to go to a different motor to get over 4K. I just started a kit for the 932. It will be around 1K

@@bobanppvc You can look here. arizonacnckits.com/ I will be adding the PM-932 but Matt is now out of them too. We dont have steppers or servos for sale right now and I dont plan on steppers this year.
