Wow, only $200? My classmate married in 2002 and she bought a simple dress for only $99. It was not bridal though. My sister in law married in 2001 and rented hers for around $1000.

the VAST majority of these dresses cost a fraction of their price tag to make. i've seen brides cough up $5k for a dress i've literally seen on etsy for $700. i've seen brides settle for overpriced cookie cutter dresses because their dream dress didn't exist and it didn't occur to them to commission a seamstress for 1/10th what they're paying a boutique.

@@dietotaku Or they go to a fancy shmancy store like Kleinfeld where they can jack up the prices. Small local shops and consignment stores have great options at the fraction of the price

@@dietotakuI agree and my cousin makes dresses and clothing for a living. She says it does not cost that much. But of course they will charge for the labor and all. They are a business that is out to make a profit.

@@sarahkinsey5434 and a lot of the local shops have a off the rack section to choose from thsat are much cheaper. when i went shopping for a wedding dress the local had dresses in that section for a few hundred bucks and some as low as 200

Same for any clothing to be honest. That's why I'll never buy clothes online unless it's a sweatshirt. Returns are a pain in the butt for online shopping, if you can return it

I think there mostly trashy looking. Lots of corset type gowns, which I'm not a fan of.

I think most are ugly. Some are ok but the prices are outrageously expensive.

That’s probably why it was challenging. There are a lot more options now compared to back then.

There’s nothing wrong with that though. Most people care about their appearance and spend their money on skincare products or makeup or cosmetic procedures. There are very few people who look their best using absolutely nothing.

@@thehungrygoldfish Most people look their best using nothing, rather than trying to be something they are not because society says that's what we all have to look like. It's confidence, health and warmth that makes people attractive. Lip fillers don't look good on anyone, that's for sure

Women who try so hard to be not themselves don't have a lot of confidence in who they really are, and that is unattractive- as is looking like you're in the early stages of anaphylaxis. No one "needs" any of that, beyond basic hygiene and grooming. Women just tell themselves they do/marketing tells them they do. There was a marketing expert who pointed out that entire economies would crumble if women looked in the mirror one day and said "i love me the way I am". And it's only to impress other women too, because a man actually don't care and many prefer the natural look.
