Here we review the POC DO Blade Sunglasses vs the EOC Fake Sunglasses: Can you spot the difference? Which would you buy if any? Do you care about fakes vs real products? Also we throw into the review a pair of Tifosi glasses. But we go further, and ask what is the profit margin in real vs fakes? what are the safety issues? and are they any UV light differences? As always this video is for information only so make up your own mind about what is good for you.

Thanks a MILLION for making this video OMG! I wish I'd seen it when you first posted it, the EOC/POC glasses are still available some actually say POC lmfao. With all the new corona constraints they would take too long to arrive for me to order, but I'd definately go for the copies. They come in so many colors with different lenses, oh well Im stuck with the OG POCs I ordered from Competitive Cyclist for now.

I have found that if you use a little soapy water to clean the surface of polycarbonate and don't dry too aggressively, they are much less likely to fog on you depending on relative conditions.

I dont know if I commented before but I tried these glasses. They scratch very easy. They dont resist smudges like the other ones. The frame shattered when I dropped them. You get what you pay for. Lesson learned.

A good way to check polarization is to put on the glasses you are thinking to buy. Then, take another pair of glasses that you know are polarized and hold them out in front of you in a horizontal position. You should be able to see through that pair of lenses with the pair your are holding. Now, rotate the pair you are holding so that they are vertical, and try to look through them. If the lense of the pair you are holding DOES black out, then the pair on your head is polarized. If the lense DOESN'T black out, then the pair on your head isn't polarized. IOW words, if the lense on the front pair blacks out then both pairs of glasses are polarized. If the lense does not black out, then one of them isn't polarized.

I purchased the EOC sunglasses and I like them but in the 4-5 months I have used them, the green has faded significantly. I have never had anything that faded so quickly. It used to be easy to read the "EOC" on the side but now you really have to look (as the faded green now almost matches the silvery font of the 'EOC'.

a clear lens can still be UV400...think your are wrongly suggesting that darkness has something to do with UV protection when it does not
@nielslarsen1693
@nielslarsen1693 7 лет назад
The uv protection is 100% the same on both glasses. It is only a concern with glass glasses. The polycarbonate is the exact same on both glasses.

The biggest problem I've had with plastic sunglasses is that the lens is only good for about a year, sometimes 2 before they get so scratched up their simply useless. All in the name of being lightweight. Funny, but when I use to race bicycles 40 to 30 years ago I had a pair of laminated glasses from Bolle, no longer made with those materials of course. Lamination meant that there was two layers of glass sandwiching a plastic inner lens that was polarized, and one of the outer lenses was photochromic and mirrored. I used those glasses for 25 or so years and they never got scratched or broke, the only reason I stopped using them was the frames got weak and wouldn't hold onto my face when riding, but I still have them and use them for fishing and sometimes driving. So why don't they make glasses like that anymore? weight, and money. Today people complain about 1 gram being too heavy! When I first bought those glasses not only were glasses heavier, though not really that heavy, but helmets were too, yet I can't recall people being unable to hold their heads up while riding. The other issue is money, why sell a pair of glasses that the consumer isn't going to buy again for another 20 years when they can make cheap plastic stuff that will scratch and have to be replaced a lot more frequently, and the frames in today's glasses are lot more fragile than the frames of days gone by, and for what reason? so they can break and people will buy again. Heck, Dewalt (found at home improvement places that sell Dewalt tools) makes several very nice sunglasses that have great optical clarity, UV protection. You can get those for around $10 which is half the cost of the EOC and be about as high quality as the EOC. Pro racers get their glasses for free, I don't, I would prefer mine to last a long time.

UV protection is given not for the dark color of lens, is th epolicarbonate material, The clear and yellow lenses also have UV400 protection, and today, all originals and fakes have that excelent protection. The difference is that original and expensive sunglasses are hidrophbic, better contrast and clear vision, and sometimes anti fog, and better scratch protection.

I'm a cheapskate and regularly destroy and lose sunglasses. I bought the cheapo EOC and loved them although the dark lens is very dark. I recently crashed into a car (not my fault, car crossed intersection illegally) at about 50 kph and landed on my face. The lenses did not shatter but were completely sandpapered by the road surface. Except for the lenses being useless, the frames are still usable. They're cheap but pretty strong. By the way, my bike frame is a Cheap Chinese Carbon frame. The front aluminum rim was bent in half, the frame was undamaged. The car supposedly was also damaged; I didn't see it as I was unconscious. Some of that cheap Chinese stuff is quite impressive.

I purchased a pair of EOC just to see how they are. Well, they are polarized and the frame seems sturdy enough. For me though, they are too tight and narrow. They give me a headache after 1.5 hours of riding. I do not have a large head either. I wear a medium in Giro helmets.

If you're only interested in the appearance and are okay with good enough, it's hard to justify spending $200+ on sunglasses. But the more expensive glasses, apart from the branding, you're paying for the best performance. For instance, with cycling/bike racing, I want the best clarity to quickly see road obstacles and also polarization to not only limit glare but even to allow me to see my cycling computer without it being all messed up with reflections from the sky. Pricier lenses also may have treatments on them to better deal with sweat/wet stuff. I previously had a pair of cheap Tifosis and they did the basic job well, but after a race (thanks to sweat) or in rain I couldn't see out of them and the clarity even when clean was only okay. Oakleys just worked better.

What if cheap sunglasses with bad lenses damage your eyes? How much does it cost for a new pair of eyes? lol I would rather spend the money on a good pair of sunnies with a good pair of lenses.

Tifosi rubber in the nosepiece can be cheap as hell. It was certainly the weak point for the Tifosi I tried, and the Performance brand, Scattante, I tried. I don't know for certain, but I NOW have great hesitation to put supercheap rubber on my nose and ears for long periods of time. That would be a great video to have on RU-vid. These "helpful" reviews between fakes and originals never give the products enough wear and tear for am adequate review. The videos fail to let anyone know how bad the rubber might be, how bad either of the glasses are in the long run.

Manufacturing costs are the same for both.....difference is POC....on their business marketing review will go with the question “how much will we price this?”....let’s focus on the high end customers.....let’s say 200 300 dollars....lol.

I'm not a fan of the fake stuff. I find it hard to buy stuff thats actually an illegal copy of a genuine product. For the lenses, not sure about the EOC but I would bet they are not nearly as good as the Zeiss if tested. Years ago at Crankworks, Oakley had a laser that could test any glasses as compared to a genuine pair of theirs, and the distortion in fakes and even many cheap glasses was quite surprising.

I have always said that cheap sunglasses could be detrimental to ones eyes and you can't put a price on that. I have also heard about the Oakely laser test many years ago. I was talking to a guy who worked for Rudy Project in Australia and mentioned the laser test to him. He then told me that when he was in the US he went to the Oakley headquarters or some thing like that (it may have been Crankworks) and they were doing the laser test there. He got them to test the Rudy Project sunglasses he was wearing and said that they performed even better than the Oakleys.

I still use tifosi.. Cheap soo if they fall off while riding no big deal plus the lenses are replaceable also for cheap.. . Yea those pocs are really nice but I don't see the lenses being easily changeable and the price.. Ohh wow.. If I lost those while riding I'd be pissed
@z1522
@z1522 7 лет назад
Plastic will filter about 95% Uv intrinsically; even clear. What about either pair being impact,penetration and shatter resistant, like every Oakley and many other sport glasses made from polycarbonate or similar high end material, like Rudy uses? I can't imagine the real POC are not fully as good in that regard, but fakes may be across the board, and unknown unless you break-test a pair. ANSI specs for safety glasses are the absolute minimum anyone should be using in active eyewear, and never, ever any glass lenses.

This review is just too subjective. Also you state incorrect information. If a lens in polycarbonate it is always 400UV. You dont go into the difference in optical quality of the lenses which greatly affects their long term wearability as distorting lenses will cause headaches during wearing. This is avoided with lenses from companies like Zeiss with over 100 years experience and huge r&d. Dont forget if these glasses from POC or Oakley did not exist, neither would the fakes - so the brands put in all the time, effort and money to design, test and create molds - then the faker just copies a skin of the mold and produces the similar product in look and feel. Not saying the fakes are a much worse product but that your review is flawed.

4:13 why would the retailer make more than the manufacturer?
@mastaballa86
@mastaballa86 3 года назад
Im a year late lol , but im still gonna point it out as it might help you understand the same process for other product. Its quite simple actually the retailer does not make more then the manufacturer. Its the image that is misleading. In the picture you see most of the manufacturer expense, while you see none of the retailer expense. Retailer need to pay for employee, local rent, tax, publicity, space to stock the good and even more...

Don't mix 90 percent of light thru lens vs. 90 of UV A and UV B protection. UV400 is similar term for 99 or 100 percent of protection.
@enriquehs
@enriquehs 2 года назад
You can use uv lantern and photogray lenses to test uv protection, after that you can understand if photogray lens does not dark after then your eyes are safe. And fake often use not UV400 protection, but similar products often use UV400 lens protection... As branded glasses...

You seem to have entirely missed that originals usually have udnergone tests to ensure, that if you have an accident wearing those glasses, they will not poke a hole in your eye. I would not rely that much on saying "polycarbonate is polycarbonate" - I would expect differences in the lense material as well.

"EOC" is not fake. "EOC" is sunglasses, which completely repeat the design of the "POC", but they are made under the brand "EOC". Fake you can find on Aliexpress, there will be a written "POC", but it is not genuine "POC" sunglasses.

"completely repeat the design of xyz" - that's exactly what we call fake! If they would use the brand POC it would be piratery and POC would take them immediately to the court... but nonetheless they have ABSOLUTE NO design and research to make their products, but simply do copy those with high reputation and high prices -that not necessarily makes their products bad (btw, some of the fake Rolex/Breitling/IWC are good quality too - but fake), but IT IS FAKE FOR SURE!
