Okay, so I worked at Paramount Studios during the filming of Batman. It wasn't our film, but word was that Alicia Silverstone was considered "too fat" for Batgirl, so they had her on a starvation diet with a personal trainer. One night, I got out of work very late so I went for groceries at the Ralphs market on Doheny and Wilshire (across from Mr. Chows). It's about 1am in the morning and there's Alicia Silverstone being dragged around the store by her trainer. They were in workout clothes and all sweaty - clearly they just exercised. The trainer is telling Alicia all the things she CAN'T eat, which is practically the whole store. Alicia was crying, having a full-on breakdown over this diet. The trainer kept saying 'but wait until you see yourself on-screen, it'll be worth it!" Ugh. Anyway, they finally go to produce section and the trainer approves "watermelon". Alicia rips open containers of cut fruit and devours them like she's been lost in the desert for decades. It was the most bizarre moment. I felt so bad for that girl. And then the movie flopped! What a waste of time.

I learn so much from your film reviews and podcast. Joseph, you're witty and make the most simple things sound interesting (like that overpriced place with the celebrity smoothie). Nick is so knowledgeable and funny -- impressive recall/memory. Does Nick go to the London Film Festival?

The 'good part' of telling everyone, one's literacy 'limitations' 😅is reading anything 'negative' or positive is not going to be a problem😉But, then again, if there's an assist doing the reading for you...🤨there's gotta be trust there's truth in it! I loved Jim Carrey in Batman & Robin, it was almost as if the Riddler was a gay character. I do agree you laughing at the movie more than laughing with it.
