The only reason Astana signed Cav was they needed cash. They knew the only stage he would win is stage 1 Alzheimers.

The first two stages were the hardest start to a TdF. Sprinters always struggle in the mountains. The publicity is working well at present. Lots of coverage of Cav and the team. The owners will be happy so far. Cav is the team leader and the job of the team is to support him.

He was ‘fine’ yesterday and I expect he’ll be in the top 20 today. I reckon he just needs time to detox from whatever nefarious substance he ingested on the morning of Stage 1….and presumably return to the more familiar substances that his body can handle. I don’t think its terrible form, but a terrible ‘diet’. 😏

I believe that it is highly likely that he will finish this tour and also win a stage.

It's their bread-and-butter position, driving the pace, and they have the numbers to do it versus the other teams. Maybe optimal despite the optics: regardless UAE drives the pace into oblivion to sent Pogi over the Galibier.

@@richardwolf6269 My point wasnt about the quality of competition at the Giro, it was about the effect on fitness from having ridden the Giro. G is pretty tough but he has been blown away. In the last 25 years Tom Dumoulin and Chris Froome are the only 2 i can think of (there are probably more but not that many) who have been competitive at the TdF after being competitive at the Giro.

They probably all are using micro doping. When they introduced the values they have to stay inside they suddenly all were just below those values. BUT regarding Jonas you should know that when he were a teenager and had been in a cycling club for some years his trainer took him to the Danish testing centre that ALL Danish athletes use to get tested and they dropped their jaws to the floor. This centre have existed since just after WW2 and they have tested all Danish athletes you have heard of and even more you have not. Jonas tested ability to convert oxygen to the blood, basically what riders try to increase by taking doping, were the highest they EVER measured in the centres history and that even with a margin. It were these test results that made both Jonas and his surroundings understand that he were something special. It were directly the cause for Jonas to take the decision to not go further in academic schooling but instead taking a job at the local fish factory, so he could dedicate his time to cycling and go all in on that quest. So Jonas are the best Dane ever tested in Denmark to have the outmost best breath to oxygen in the blood conversion, the very quality you need to be the natural born mountain climbing cyclist. Denmark are flat as a pancake and it were only when he joined teams riding mountains they truly saw what a gem he could be for them. That this humble guy on top have an outstanding mentality to eat pain over time actually do make him close to a unicorn. So Jonas actually are at the right place at the right time, matching his genetic body advantages and that actually are a great thing.
