Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus plant care should be easy with using a plant specific substrate. This is a stem plant and feeds on most of its nutrients through its roots. This is a very versatile plant and it can even be floated. It gets its name from its octopus like leaves that fan out and look beautiful in a fish tank. The Octopus plant does best under fairly high light.

Propagating the Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus plant consist of cutting anywhere on the stem and just replanting that cutting. The stem of the plant prefers to be in the substrate because that’s where it feeds on nutrients and spreads the roots. Even though this plant can be floated and stay alive at the surface of the water, it prefers to be planted into the substrate by its stem.
The octopus plant prefers medium lighting but it can grow under low lighting. It is also said to of need CO2 to grow properly in an aquarium but that’s not true. This plant is effectively being grown under low light with zero CO2 added. The plant will do better though and grow to the best of its ability with high light and CO2 added.
The best substrate to use with the octopus plant is a nutrient rich plant substrate. Gravel or sand may work for some people but it’s not the best option because there’s no nutrients in it. A lot of fish keepers find success growing this plant using regular potting soil in their aquarium.
This plant has a bushy like look to it and it’s a beautiful background plant. It can grow extremely tall in your aquarium so you will most likely be clipping it and re-planting them or selling them.

Just had 2 arrive in the mail from Aquarium Co-op today! It's one of the few plants that won't melt and die in my tanks. 😂 I float mine!

I keep octopus plant in a planted 55. It thrives in that tank so I put the clippings in my cichlid tanks. My severums love snacking on it.

Hygger may be cheaper, but their lights are the shit! I grow high light req. plants with them no problem, they are pretty decent quality (out of 20 lights I've had 2 malfunctions and pretty sure I caused 1) You don't need CO2 either ... the best way to build an aquarium - any aquarium - is to set it up as an ecosystem from the start. If you do, with a few months of work you see the tank starting to maintain itself more and more. I have a short vid of my 55 that gets a 20% change about every 3 months with top-offs in between and will eventually get just top-offs. (it's not competition scaped - I prefer to just throw in plants and let nature take over)

Hey I just got a beamswork light. It has three settings. Purple light. Like a yellowish light. Also a yellow mixed with purple light. It’s full spectrum. What one should I leave it on, the yellowish light or the yellow/ purple setting?

Hey Chris, Bang on the Money as ever, buying a fish that will clearly grow too big for your glass water box is intact animal abuse . Not at all what I am writing to you about now Sir . I write this question to you now, because , and please tell me to mind my own business if you are not in a sharing mood , but could I ask please what PH and General Hardness comes out of your Faucets. I only ask this because my Tap Water here in the UK Midlands is rather hard and sadly almost always has a higher PH , in no way is this unusual for my geographic area. I see softer water areas here in the UK having massive success with aquatic plants , where as I , alas am compelled to go with what you call , Bomb proof plants . I am giving Guppy/Najas Grass a go today , I do a dribble of CO2 injection ( primarily because I err on the side of caution. That being said , you have had some pretty good results with guppy grass and indeed Jungle Val, which I do find needs root tabs as it seems to be a heavy root feeder . Boy oh Boy , this is a longer post than I would have anticipated and I do avoid all the experts on FB groups. I run fluval 3.0 Plant light on a 5 ft 320 litres aquarium, I won’t say gallons simply because you and I , due to our worldly locations have very different ideas of what a gallon is . Side note, So very sorry about your utility bills, no need to mention how much your electricity bill is , Grown Men Crying always breaks my heart. I digress Sir , I was asking , due to your success with aquatic plants , where is your supplier PH and Hardness at my aquatic advisor ? Lots of Love from across the Pond. NB , yes I do use ferts , root tabs for the Val and Potassium and Iron for my water column feeding plants . You are one of the good guys in this hobby

@@PalmerAquatics I am a massive fan , seriously, you have taught me most everything I know about Valisinaria, You also pretty much persuaded me that Guppy Grass would be a good Idea. So in response my friend, I am all good with going for Pogostemon Octopus, Stellatus. Accepting that like myself, you have very hard water . Not to be pernickity but could I dare ask , where your PH is at out of the faucet/tap. I only ask because , that of course the PH is also very much a thing for we aquatic plant growers, Love you Man , keep doing your thing ❤️
