Point Sublime - North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona
Point Sublime in the Grand Canyon is an incredible overlook on the north rim. We were concerned a little about the road conditions, but found that it's not too hard to get there; most vehicles will be able to make it. The views of the Grand Canyon from Point Sublime are.....sublime may be the best term. Best of all, you can camp there. There are two campsites at Point Sublime. Unfortunately, I can't give a lot of information on how you obtain permits. We drove up to the Back Country Office at the north rim only to be told they were not issuing permits. I couldn't find a way to reserve permits online, but that could be because they aren't issuing any because of COVID. Regardless, Point Sublime was amazing. We will be back, and we will camp there.
You come in on the 67, which eventually leads you to the Back Country Office, near the Grand Canyon north rim Welcome Center. Backtrack a short bit and turn onto Widforss Road, then follow the signs to Point Sublime Road. 4WD is highly recommended. High clearance is nice, but not necessary. After about 16 miles, you come to Point Sublime, which, as I've said, lives up to the name.
You can turn off the 67 earlier and take other roads to get there. We did a reverse loop from Point Sublime taking back roads to Rainbow Point to camp (outside the park - no permits required), catching back up with the 67 to exit.
Whatever your route, Point Sublime offers amazing views of the Grand Canyon. If you're looking for an amazing (and not crowded) overlook, check it out.

My sister-in-law and I camped at Point Sublime back in 2018 and it was amazing! I planned our entire trip around camping at this one spot. I wish I would've had my RU-vid channel back then, but I guess that just means I need to go back! We ended up renting a smaller Subaru so we definitely struggled to get there (monsoon season) but I was determined!!! What should've taken us 2 hours to get there, it took us 5 😂 INCREDIBLE place to wake up!

I am in Arizona three months out of the year and have been to many of the places you all have been. This is a wonderful jewel of a place you have recommended. Thanks for all your hard work on the videos as I know from personal experience that it’s hard as hell to complete a full video as well as lugging all the equipment around filming and trying to enjoy the scenery. You all rock! Keep up the good stuff.

What? 4x4 only? Challenge accepted! You'd be surprised where we used to take an old '78 Honda Civic... Of course whenever we got stuck all we had to do was pick it up, and move over the obstacles ;-) Great series! We love your format!

Thanks for posting this video and nicely done. My wife and I are heading out to the Grand Canyon area the end of September. After watching this, on a whim, we threw our hat in the ring and faxed in a backcountry permit application this afternoon, fully expecting not to hear back. To my surprise, we got a reply tonight with our permit!! Looking forward to camping on the North Rim! Thanks again for making the time to post such great content.

About the Buffalo. I worked at Jacob Lake Inn in 1997 for a summer and there were no Buffalo. Those meadows were pristine. I loved driving up there after work trying to spot deer and enjoy those beautiful meadows. In 2014, I was back in the area and again no Buffalo. Fast forward to 2018, I was again back up there, this time the meadows were littered with Buffalo with dung everywhere! I was not happy. I asked a ranger what was up and I was told the House Rock Ranch went out of business and just let the buffalo go. They migrated up to cooler temps. In 2022, I was up there again, and this time no buffalo. I read an article that said they were probably going to ship most of them off to other places and some sold as meat. Well, they most of done that because I saw no trace of buffalo or their dung...the meadows were thriving! Probably because of the vast amounts of nitrogen they just received from the buffalo over the last 4 years. Anyway, that is the story I now about the buffalo. Now, Point Sublime...jaw dropping is how I describe it. Sorry for the long post.

Too bad you couldn't get camping spots, because it's incredible to be there for sunset and sunrise. I camped there in October 2019 and it was beautiful. I was also there in the mid '80's. Back then the road was passable for a regular car. Not any more, at least not a car that I didn't want to damage. It could probably be done in a 2wd truck, but a 4wd with decent clearance is best. I think Point Sublime is the best rim viewpoint in the Grand Canyon.

You definitely don't need a 4WD to get to Point Sublime. I did it in a rental Nissan Sentra. We did lose a piece of the fairing because of clearance. Any truck/suv would be fine.
