I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the word “guyliner” insinuates men do not have eyes, they have little guys on their face instead. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
Sexuality is pointlessly gendered. I came out as a lesbian and my dad immediately went ’oh so you wanna be a boy then’ because apparently the idea of a person liking girls who isn’t straight is just incomprehensible? Also this is the funniest video i’ve seen in weeks
I’m a trans boy and I was looking at binders on Amazon and most of them said “lesbian” or “tomboy” and nearly none said “transgender” or “trans” when I searched: “binder transgender” just because you like girls doesn’t mean you wanna be a boy-
honestly though in highschool I learned about an actual plane that crashed because of this exact reason. I think the pilots were Japanese, flying in America, and the difference in how Americans spoke threw them off (not language, but like tone and directness and levels of respect) and the pilots were too awkward to directly tell the air control folks that they were gonna crash until it was too late.
@@jackalope03 yeah the book outliers by malcolm gladwell mentions that issue with a korean airline. not sure if that's the one you're thinking of, but it reminded me of that.
I'm pretty sure that the old legends and myths say that the horn worked essentially as a spear, and that it would be used to skewer any impure object that the unicorn came across?
5:27 remembers when the kids at my school called me gay because i had short hair and all the other girls had long hair. . . i mean they were right. . but it was an insult then
Pointlessly gendered: My whole language. okay, here's the thing, my main language is Hebrew, and EVERYTHING is gendered. There is rarely any phrase that isn't gendered. I want - gendered I see - gendered I'll check - gENDERED- the literal only word that is not gendered at all is I. that's it. You is gendered, it is gendered, even them is gendered. There's always options, but not enough, just female and male. Which is why I rarely speak Hebrew. also i would like to say my favorite pronoun is either bee/bees or void/voidself. Also it/it's is hilarious when said outloud
@@lilakoala636 a bunch of my friends use they/them pronouns and we can't even speak in Hebrew cause it won't freaking work. At this point everyone is them (gendered male) in my point of view. They even added gender neutral pronouns in French, and not in Hebrew yet
@@cherrypienova8795 As a native french speaker: no one really uses the gender neutral pronouns because everything else in the sentence still has to be gendered....our language just isn't built to use gender-neutral language so I just switch to English when talking to/about my non-binary friends tbh
@Fucking grass absolutely. Imma refuse to use you/your in conversations and then I'll just be like "I ain't usin no plural for a single person" everytime anyone is confused abt it.
I think my favorite pronoun is “they” (in English) because it can be used as a gender neutral pronoun, usable not only for non-binary people but for situations where you don’t know the gender of the person. In my language, Portuguese, there’s no such thing like that, there’s only “she” and “he”, even for objects (same with other romance languages like Spanish, Italian and French).
Really? Not even as plural? In my language (czech) we also have she and he for objects, even for I - men and women have different ending in verbs - but we still have neutral they :O
@@boja8875 nope :\ the plurals are also gendered. And if you ask “but what if there are both men and women in a group? How do we refer to that group?” The answer is “masculine plural”, the male gender prevails over the female in those cases. Ex: - two brothers / they -> dois irmãos/ eles - two sisters / they -> duas irmãs/ elas - two siblings (a brother and a sister) / they -> dois irmãos / eles - Many siblings (9 sisters and 1 brother) / they -> muitos irmãos / eles
@@Fernandanatac Hi again, sorry I mislead you, our "they" is actually also gendered 😅 I'm just so used to using "oni" as neutral I didn't realize. Full disclosure: oni - masculine ony - feminine ona - neuter However Czech also has the same thing as f.e. Spanish; el, la, los for everything. So "opposite problem", grammatical gender for absolutely, and I mean a b s o l u t e l y everything 😀
neopronouns have been invented, not very popular yet but we have some options. Eu pessoalmente uso "elu" mas tbm tem "el" "ile" Ili" (que são derivados do latim).
I mean there is kinda a point, even if it’s a problem for either non binary or trans people (like me) because well body parts (for cis people) feel weird around other ones and piss different and some bathrooms people change in but ye. I word that horribly but whateverrrr
@@waterlemonwolf I think, as a little trans boi (been out for roughly 16 months hurray me), I might start going into men’s bathrooms because I actually do look and dress like boys my age do No jokes, no bullshit, no man goo, I began looking like a guy and that fact alone has been keeping my crippling dysphoria at bay
@@sand_eater101 yay! I started going into the men’s restrooms and even if it’s scary and I sit in the stall for a while contemplating how I leave without getting noticed, it’s really euphoric
I love watching your videos, I'm dealing with "girl problems" idk and I'm a trans guy and everything is just really shitty, but they make me feel so much better and distract me from most of the suckiness
13:24 Omg I've never heard someone else talk about this! When I was little adults would say I was so skinny that when I grow up I was going to be really pretty. Adult members of my family would say they were jealous that I was so skinny and pretty. If I didn't eat something they would say "So that's why you're so skinny!" But they said it in a positive way. Now years later I am dealing with negative thoughts about food and eating. Noah just quickly mentioned this, but I really wanted to point it out. Everyone please be careful of how you talk about food and weight around young children who are still figuring things out
The only thing I agree with is the women’s boxers. Bc they have all the comfort and stuff of men’s boxers but they don’t have as much xtra space in the crotch area where cis women don’t have things to put in it. I’ve never worn them but my friend has and she says they are very comfortable
funny story: Every time my parents and brother go fishing, my mother has to take the fish off the line, kill it, gut it, and cut it up because the other 2 are to scared to do it themselves.
Yeah I know if we ever went fishing, I'd be the one dealing with the dirty work. Not that I like it any better, just that I know my husband would turn green trying to do it and I want to save him the discomfort
For real, my cousins got me the WEIRDEST chapstick for Christmas that says, "For true women." I looked back at them and said, "I'm gonna use this for the cut I got on my lip, thanks." They seemed to be offended by that- even though I said I'd use it? I'm a very straightforward guy, when my parents told them that I was transgender, they said, "It won't affect what we get her for Christmas because she'll still love it anyway! And don't let her use pronouns, that's controlling you!" (Apparently when a child asks you to respect something, it doesn't have to be pronouns, they say, "It's controlling the parents!" So having a kid speak up to a parent is TOTAL control but it's okay for parents to have complete control of whatever your child says to you... That really doesn't sound good.
I think I read somewhere that the reason the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland is because in mythology its mortal enemy is the lion. And guess whose national animal is a lion? That's right: England. So that's apparently a nod to that whole thing between Scotland and England. But I can't tell you whether that's actual fact or just something that someone made up because it would be a good story to tell 🤔 Anyways. Loved the video 😊👍
My little brother(7) put on my chokers that happened to be lying around on the counter and my dad told him to take them off because he 'isn't gay' LIKE. SIR?? I got so upset with him, we argued for like an hour about that, sexuality, and gender identity lmao-
Me and my dad always argue over sexuality and gender He doesn’t even know that I’m nonbinary But he knows that I’m lesbian but I’m actually nonbinary lesbian
Fun fact! I have misophonia It's less 'angry' for me. I used to get really bad panic attacks even being in the same room as certain people because I could hear their saliva over their voice. It suuuucckkkeeedd. Pretty much meant I couldn't speak to certain people irl. That kinda sucks when you live with them and have to speak to them. But yo. Non crunchy crisps are a 10/10 idea. I cannot FLIPPING STAND CRISPSSSS.. AAAAAAAAAAAAA
It's actually quite possible to be a non binary girl or boy! Some folks opt for medical transition to alleviate discomfort but still identify as non binary to an extent. It's why you'll sometimes see pronoun pairings like she/they or he/they :)
I like to read it in a positive way, like as "we are parents and looking for unisex names for our babygirl to not make her uncomfortable in case she comes out as trans/nb and wants to use different pronouns". I know a lot of unisex named people that are very happy about having a name that fits both genders, even if they identify as their assigned gender.
What sometimes annoys me, is that clothing stores are gendered. I like the clothes from the men's section more, and when I am there the people working there direct me to the women's section. Yes I know I am a woman, but please let me pick out the clothes that I Iike, and not what society would like me to wear... Btw.. Sorry for my English. It's my second language and I wrote this at a late hour...
I used to frequently buy men's t-shirts and pajamas because they had all the nerdy cool stuff and were roomier. I still will buy them when I see something I like that isn't in my assigned gender section.
My favorite pronouns are Él and Elle. They sound exactly the same, but they're from different languages and mean exact opposite things, which makes things wonderfully confusing.
A fun fact, "Elle" is starting to be introduced in the Spanish language because we don't have neutral pronouns. So, we can said than "Elle" is starting to be part of Spanish like "él" :D
omg!!! this reminded me of the time i was eleven and in a sleepover with my three girl besties!!!! we were having like SO MUCH FUN!!! we were pillow fighting after taking pictures in our newly done braids when my mom called for dinner. it was rice. i bit into one and crunch! my jaw went ⬇️⬆️ IT HURT SO BAD OMG!!!
The "oh you're so skinny, that's so beautiful, I want to be skinny like you" when I was underweight my whole life made me have an eating disorder when I hit puberty and my body changed because I wasn't that skinny anymore and I didn't understand that it was normal and beautiful...
i think my favorite weirdly gendered thing is when i went to the store and i saw coffee for men which was just straight black coffee in a grey cup and then coffee for women which was like a caramel macchiato in a pink and sparkly cup- so apparently coffee has gender now and as a agender person i guess i can no longer drink it
Dear big corporations, Why tf do you feel the need to gender things? Also, who decided that pink is traditionally feminine and blue is masculine? Like they are colors, why must they have a gender associated with them.
@@miki957 yeah, it was the other way around til Hitler came around and made nazis wear blue uniforms and stuff and therefore blue became a masculine colour (that's atleast what i've heard, not totally sure!!)
Haw about we just change the genderd colors like green for women and orange for men to prove our point for a bit and then just completely throw the genderd concept out
Because it makes more money-this whole consumerism thing has got to stop if stores are putting women down occasionally or just giving people the idea that women are weak just to make more money. I could go on a really long rant but…
Does it have to be an English pronoun? Because if it can be any language I'm going with "ISTE" (Latin), which basically translates to "this one over there (derogatory)" 😁
Idk if this is relevant but in Vietnam we have a pronoun to use informally and only to people around your age (nó). It sounds funny to me and it's gender-neutral yay
@@cheesemainaim Oh that is actually pretty cool. Is it like a 2nd person singular pronoun that you use to directly address the person you're speaking with? Like in English "you" (singular)? Or do you use it referring to a third person in a sentence the way he/she (and singular they) work? Like, do you use nó while directly speaking to the person you're addressing with the pronoun? Or does it refer to someone else that might not actually be there with you as you speak to each other about that person? If it's like singular "you" in English the whole "it's informal and for people of your own age" thing reminds me of how we make a distinction between informal "du" (= singular "you") and formal "Sie" (= singular "you", but formal and usually the go-to pronoun to use with people older than you, at least when you first meet them) in German.
@@Meeko4eve39 It's the pronoun for a third person (like he/she). We use it for nearly everything: people, plants, etc. But of course we don't use a pronoun we use for a plant for anyone older than us or else that'd be very disrespectful!
I always find the "men fish"-thingy wierd, bc when my family is out fishing my mom is the one slaying all the fish... she usually even kills the fish my dad get
It's not that wrong, women tend to have more empathy, therefor more struggle to kill. But ofc it differs from case to case. I don't have problems with mentioning that kind of gender differences because it's grounded in biology and instinct. Liking certain colors or songs more isn't.
ok but i actually looked up the scottish national animal and i definitely thought corry was joking but like he’s not??? y’all’s animal is actually a unicorn???
@@jamesthompson248 I'm a guy, and I like dinos more in like art and themes, but if I had to choose one to meet, I'd choose the unicorn, one, cause I don't wanna be eaten, no matter how cute the tiny dinos are, and two, cause fuck yeah, like irl I'd def choose a unicorn, I just so often see it associated with girly stuff instead of metal stuff, and I'm a trans guy so that's uncomfortable, which is also weird because I'm nonconforming, and like wearing skirts isn't weird, but unicorns just make me uncomfortable in art and decor after years of that stuff being pushed on me and implied that I have to like it, as well as dysphoria. However, if I see unicorns portrayed as badass, I'm all in. Like, a metal band with a unicorn mascot? Fuck yeah. It's not the creature, it's the association society places on it. It sucks.
Lmao i was eating doritos when that first thing about crunchy chips was brought up 🤣🤣 idk why us women would not want the crunch personally i find that to be part of the satisfaction of chips 🤔
This is sooo insensitive. As Noah said in the video, women have sensitive jaws and therefore cannot chew regular chips. You must be a *biological* male 😒
You know someone’s fucked up when they make jokes about their mental health because they deny their feelings so much that they think what they’re feeling is unreal and that they’re just overreacting. How do I know? Don’t worry about it…
6:30 if I remember correctly the legend behind unicorns is that they are attracted to virgin women so maybe thats how unicorns became associated with girls
The french language, I love learning french but even the nouns are gendered like why is that Necessary?💀 I get that it’s just the language but seriously makes it so much harder to learn.
I never thought of my favorite pronoun ... Maybe "You", I like the fact that in English it can be used for one or more people (In French, we don't have that, we have the singular "you" and the plural "you") Oh, and that was a good video! PS: You're one of my favorite RU-vidrs, because I like your personality, and I can understand you without subtitles haha (Also, even if I don't understand what "underachievers" means, I love the way you say it)
"if you're a father that doesn't like fishing Happy mother's Day!" Me, a girl, who's always want to do a fishing and camping: I am above you gendered things muahahahahahahahahah
6:19 Unicorms did have a story where they can only be tamed by putting its head on the lap of a virgin woman which likely evolved into unicorns being tied to femininity
