@@THGMR-ox7sd I want to preface this saying that Davide Carrer most likely knows more about competitive pokemon than I do, but I am not sure why they decided to keep bringing the Venusaur Torkoal lead even when Incineroar on Wolfe's team was putting in major work. That doesn't even mention the fact that Weezing doesn't really synergize well with the Torkoal or the Venusaur itself in this matchup as you want that chlorophyll to go off and you need either the sun or the chlorophyll ability itself to use that combo. Felt really weird to me but hey they are the one who makes it to finals and I am not so I am sure they had their reasonings
@@animejerk05 Yeah but even with that line of thinking he should have tried mixing it up seeing as wolfe didnt really use that lead against him as much as incineroar was workin on him
If you’re gonna have Regigigas on your team, you HAVE to lead with it and Weezing in order for it to be as effective as possible... in my opinion. As we saw when Davide lead with the combo, it’s very effective.
Wolfe’s hair starts turning yellow when Davide says good luck. Starts turning blue when he says I’ll need to be more lucky. Flashes silver when he doesn’t say have fun: you’ve unleashed Ultra Instinct Wolfey
@@NewAgeSteel He probably watched he who shall not be named video and probably believes all his mons are hacked like he who shall not be named said as he always calls Wolfe out when he wins tournament. Apart of the VGC group on facebook myself and someone even admitted they knew the people who gave Wolfe his pokemon. They were all legit and furry boi needs to suck it up and stop bringing toxic behavior to this community.
I love wolfe's playstyle because it's perfectly reflects somebody who's played way too much pokemon "Why use think move when strong move win?" He's not predicting or overanalyzing
I think it was also in response to Davide’s team in particular, where a strong turn 1 offense utterly smashes any opening he locks himself into (since his team is built with two separate pairs in mind). Though, he has said as of late that he plays a bit more offensively than he did before, specifically in his earlier years as a player
He did a really nice play at 14:56-15:18 ish where his Dragapult was yawned, where the human play would've been to switch out (which he did) and Taunt the Torkoal (which you can see him consider as he did select Taunt first) to pretty much render him useless into Coal/Incineroar; but he predicts Davide would taunt his Incineroar with Weezing to prevent HIS own taunt into Torkoal so he could essentially get a free Yawn into Coalossal potentially, so Wolfe just went aggro and demolished with Incineroar with sun up. I guess what I'm trying to say is he did predict and analyze, just very quick/accurately, while at the same time thinking exactly what you said; Strong move op lmao
@@ek940 yeah someone made a vid a while ago about why wheesing regi isn’t nearly as good a combo as people think, mainly stating that you’re basically using two team slots to make one good Pokémon. I’d suggest using a Pokémon with simple beam or entrainment or hell even gastro acid if absolutely need be so it’s a more permanent solution to the ability problem and the Pokémon aren’t completely dependent on each other
Mad respect to Davide, he's an insane player, he lost in the Europe final because of an unfortunate crit. He got to another final even after that. I really hope to see him again in a big final
@@keefeD146 Pretty immature way of looking at it. Everyone under the best isn't on an even playing field, all tied for second, or something like that. Wolfe won because he's one of the very few people who can even stand up to a guy as good as Davide. Most 'average' players probably couldn't take a single game off him
Definitely. He had 2 cores (Vena/Torkaol and Weezing/Regi), but no support. Definitely not the way most teams are structured. He is a top level player though, so I’m sure he knew what he was doing. Maybe just thought that each of those cores were strong enough alone that even if they don’t synergize well they will still have the raw power to win.
felt like one of the biggest issues was both cores are weak to fire types while Wolf is running a very fire centric team, so any time one of the duo is out it's almost always going down turn 1
It's really obvious, i mean if you see him there's no way you don't click it. Even when you are scrolling through videos, ur eyes are always trying to find his name
Wolfe wasn't even using a proper mode of his team here, he was just playing out of his mind lol. Incredible game knowledge and win condition assessment.
After the first failed lead I would’ve switched my strategy Wolfey definitely had a hyper offensive team. Even his support Dragapult created huge openings. GG though
@@zacmayes2802 No lol. Wolfe made it clear he sourced his team from many folks. On his channel he showed each one of these had a different OT and were on loan from friends and subscribers.
46:14 this looks so raw. A full health Dinamaxed Coalossal vs a teeny weeny severely crippled low health Regigigas. Even the size difference looks like bullying.
I just recently got back into Pokémon as a Gen 1er. Watching these matches shows me how much I didn’t know what I didn’t know about status moves and weather in team battles. All I ever did was get the most powerful move of a variety of types
Sorry for this rant in advance.😑 After reading through multiple comments, I thought I should make something clear. Glick didn't cheat and it is highly unlikely that he ever has at a competitive level. Many, if not all, tournaments are hosted by the Pokemon Company itself. I'm sure it would have been revealed if someone has cheated. Also, the way Wolfe has been accused of cheated, by Verlisify, wouldn't affect the outcome of tournament or make a difference in any way. Sorry if this feels overzealous.😅 I just thought I'd throw that out there.🤗
That's what I hate about all these cheat accusations, in the end, cheating in good ivs ben. nature don't give you unfair disadvantage, they just save your time.
@@artandem9637 Agreed. It’d be different if they could hack illegal moves onto Pokémon or change their type or whatever. (I.e. Flamethrower or Poison Jab on a Diancie)
I swear,I just binge watching and enjoying major tournaments match on youtube, until this video, where almost every comment section (even newest one) are littered with a no life account squawking about "cheating" like every single day. God,I just want to watch in peace and looking at a healthy discussion of the match in the comment, and these furballs' follower just had to be annoying
I've never watched competitive pokemon except showdown salty compilations, I've never played a competitive game online I just searched something to put on while I was stretching Ended up watching the whole thing This video surprisedly very enjoyable
A lot of showdown people like to hate on the main game meta if it doesn't incorporate stuff they want. But it has a lot of great things as well if you just give it a chance and also makes it different in the same time. For me, that's what makes the VGC entertaining.
@@pratt17648 oh okay, I didn't know that, I don't support anyone as far as I know so little about the competitive scene, I know someone recommended me to watch the 2014 final and I still need to do it

@@daphenomenalz4100 I know. Hell, I recently had an online 6v6 doubles Match Where My Charizard ended up responsible for wiping out 2/3s of my opponent's team. It would have wiped out his Ho-Oh too if Hurricane didn't miss. But he ended up giving up after I sent out Zapdos and Venusaur while Sun was still up.
Jeez, the safety googles really have shown their true potentiel in that last game on dragapult that was awesome how value this mon had after that + Beautiful bait of the torkoal protect by protecting as well with the coalossal That's some serious level here
Dude!! Wow, first off the small segment where both players shared respective background and such was the greatest. I'm excited to watch this match. Wolfey you're my inspiration dude. I hope you two have/had a great match.
@@ThatFnafGuy200 everyone hacks, its literally so impossible to get good ivs for legendaries without many many hours of work. his strategy and foresight in these games are incredible, so why does it matter
Cant wait to get into competitive pokemon. Really enjoy these streams and being able to see such great talent. Thank you for your time to anyone who reads this, hope your new year is starting off well. 1 love yall be easy
Don't you guys watch anime or Pokémon in this specific case? 😂😂 He's basically saying that Wolfey won back to back like the main character of anime who always wins no matter what.
It's an inside joke from Wolfe's community. The joke is that he has plot armor because often when it looks like he's done he wins. And it's not always his amazing skill, sometimes it's mind boggling luck that even he laughs at. As someone who watches his videos regularly can confirm he is an anime protagonist.
Ok, so I just finished the video, and I'm starting to understand that I am a casual player and that much of this is going to fly over my head, but there are a few things that confused me; 1. Wolfe's Dragapult's moveset seems odd, I'd love to hear the strategy behind it, because it's not something I would've brought along just as a normal player, and 2. Davide's repeated use of yawn and protect seemed like stalling rather than doing anything truly meaningful, and because the perspective of the match was from Wolfe's, it almost felt like watching Wolfe battle an AI. The decisions that Davide made confused me, and I don't see how those decisions were meant to give him a path to victory.
I realize it's been 4 weeks since you posted this comment, so you might have gotten an answer from your own research. But in case you haven't and were still wondering: He runs Breaking Swipe for multi-target damage as well as a way to debuff the targets' Attack by 1 stage. Will-o-Wisp is for burning physical attackers, like Regigigas and Urshifu who are both popular in this meta. The Burn status halves the Attack stat, which is why Regigias was doing such little damage after being burned. Light Screen is for reducing damage from Special Attacks, which are pretty popular compared to physical attackers in the Players Cup II meta. Both Moltres and Coalossal are Special Attackers, as well as Davide's Weezing, Torkoal, and Venusaur. And Surf is for setting up his Coalossal. It deals super effective damage, which activates Weakness Policy, raising Coalossal's Attack and Special Attack by 2 stages, and because it's a water-type move, it activates its Steam Engine ability, giving it +6 stages to Speed, making it faster than other Pokémon on the field, and allow it to attack first. Davide's use of Yawn was fine, since landing a Yawn on a Pokémon who just Dynamaxed means they'll be asleep on the 3rd turn of it. But his biggest mistake was bringing Venusaur into every game. Its best matchups were against Coalossal and Urshifu, which it hardly ever saw, and had a losing match up against every other of Wolfe's Pokémon. He needed to bring his own Urshifu to deal with Coalossal and Incineroar. No Venusaur also means no reason to bring Torkoal, since we saw how it was really only good for Yawning and setting up sun, but that also worked in Wolfe's favor. Regieleki would have been his other Pokémon and can outspeed most things and get Reflect or Light Screen up, which would have really helped negate a lot of the damage Wolfe was dishing out. Last thing to note is Wolfe provided commentary on most of his battles for the Players Cup II over on his youtube channel. So if you want to better understand the moves he makes and the reasons why he made those moves, then you can watch those as well. He sadly didn't commentate the finals, but these battles were pretty straight-forward I'd say.
I’m a few months late, but Dragapult is run as support against physical attackers, burn halves attack (physical) so will o wisp is good to have as a defensive option, breaking swipe lowers attack for both enemies, light screen covers special attackers by halving their damage, and surf is to enable Coalossal. They tend to be run as a pair because surf hits your own Coalossal, procing weakness policy and steam engine simultaneously, giving him the stats to immediately dynamax and ohko somebody with GMax Volcalith. The protects and yawns were fine, even if the strategy looked spotty in hindsight. Yawn is the typical answer to Dynamax, because Sleep is absolutely crippling in doubles (and in general), forcing your opponent to either switch out and end dynamax early or stay in and tank damage from the enemy
This match was so good den and still good now Wolf winning with half of this team again to win the Charlotte regionals show how good these Pokemon are but also what an amazing player Wolf is ❤
I’m really confused on how he got this far with this strat, if you take away the weezing the Reggiegigas is absolutely useless and on the other side of reggiegigas goes down then your weezing is just dead weight
I'm curious about the torkoal aswell. i don't know the meta at all. I understand that torkoal is supposed to boost venusaur, but somehow it seems like dead weight. it's just spamming yawn and not doing any damage
how do they record this without being there. I always wanted to make a tournament for my channel, but don't know how to show each players fight via online.
I don't know if you still need this information 5 months after, but I think that one of the two competitors record their screen and then share it live to the Pokémon Company staff that then adds their stuff on the video (for example the competitors' name and Mons on the sides) that then gets broadcasted on their RU-vid, Twitch etc.
Quite curious on the decision to taunt the dragapult in the last game instead of picking up the ko with another sludge bomb. Was this a misclick? Or maybe he was expecting a switch and wanted to prevent the coloassol from using protect?
17:16 Any particular reason why Wolfey went for Flare Blitz into the Regigigas? It seems really obvious that the Torkoal is going to switch out into Weezing and since Weezing was low it would have been an easy KO, plus it would mean that Slow Start would be active
