His dream is to become a Polkamin master. This is no easy task. First of all, Ash has to capture all of these little Pokomahn things. And they're pretty tricky.
I remember getting this VHS in the mail, but I never knew how. I was too young to pay for a subscription to anything and I never asked my parents for one. It just came one day and changed my life forever
ZombieWolf2508 and sadly, while I love it, the mix on this video isn't available anywhere. The dance mox of it is available on the 2BA Master album though. Either way, good song.
@@AndrewsWideWorldofGaming Yeah, I honestly like this version better than the Dance Mix. Sure wish they made it available somewhere, if there even IS an extended version.
Damn Giovanni really is evil....this man robbed my mother of all her money... because OF THE GAME BOY GAMES AND THE MOVIE AND THE COMICS AND THE TOYS!!!!
I've been a fan of this series since near the very start. I just randomly happened on it when it was on TV one day. Loved it ever since. And yet, I never knew this video existed. I wish I had been one of the lucky kids who got it mailed to them. It kinda threw me back in time. Here I am, now 33 years old, 24 years after first learning about Pokemon and I've still got a Bulbasaur plushie sitting on my computer desk as I type. I will forever love this series.
I’m 31 years old. I do remember getting this video in the mail when I was 11. I had red, blue, and yellow for the game boy, but never really played farther than that. Had a weird random thought and looked this up.
i'm 32. my little brother and i watched this VHS over and over after we got it in the mail and begged our parents to buy us pokemon! we never looked back. i remember my dad selling this VHS at a yard sale not knowing really what it was... as a nintendo collector i was DEVASTATED. i would give anything for this VHS again! ....ope gotta check ebay now
I hope this is the guy who plays Ash's science teacher's like favorite thing he's ever done in his life and has copies of this vhs tape that he still hands out to people and he has irl friends who are always like "he does know... he's not really Ash's science teacher... right?" every time he leaves. lmfao
I got sent this as a kid, and my parents being weirdly conservative about stuff like random vhs mail outs (despite the fact this was obviously advertising some kids show) made me throw it out because it wasn't 'safe'... I always was curious what it actually contained since Pokemon got huge in my country shortly after. No clue why it even got sent to us. Thanks for uploading!
@@sullieskye cuz electric soldier porygon. The show suffered from decrease in viewers in japan as a result because there was a scene that cause a bunch of kids to suffer from seizures. They also had to go on hiatus in the west and everywhere else. But when they returned there was nothing they could do to make amends. Plus a lot of kids thought the show was for babies but not me I’ve been an avid fan since I was 5. I still am almost 15+ years later.
A girl in my 4th grade class gave this to me. Watched it. Shrugged. A year or so later I caught a sneak peak of the anime. It was the SS Anne episode. Then I just happened to be home from school with a buddy when the first episode aired and we went back to school and told everyone about it. Of course it took off and when it did I watched this video over and over. It's extremely nostalgic for me. As a kid I was particularly excited for the pocket pikachu. And believe it or not the very same one I got when I was ten is sitting on my desk next to me :P
3:08 -3:19 Giovanni: Well, to all those who did get their hands on the video tape. If you're watching right now, if you don't play the Gameboy game or watch the TV show, you'll never see, let alone catch, Ash's Pikachu before we do.
Okay, I think I now understand why my mom and dad were a bit worried about this show. This video seems like an introduction to a cult. 🤣 I love it, though.
Religion is a cult. I mean remember those crazy priests who were calling Pokémon evil and they took a sword and cut a Pikachu plush open? Not surprising because their God is a psychopathic mass murderer who killed thousands upon thousands of people and sent his own son to be killed.
Thank you so much for uploading this !! I miss my old VHS I had of this , I got it way back as a kid , because I was part of the toys r us club , I remember telling the other kids in school about a new cartoon and game called Pokemon, and none of them believed me lol, my brother and I felt special that we had " top secret information " , one of my fondest memories 😀😁😍
6:35 "Ash has always showed determination in class." Sir, I'm sorry but I absolutely refuse to believe Ash has ever been in school before Alola. His head is just full of love for his friends and battling.
@@maganhassan2627 Obviously. I'm saying the idea of Ash being a remotely good student doesn't match with his character in the OS, not that this actually happened. The promo and the show ended up being completely different, that's the joke.
Imagine growing up in this generation and just feeling the overflow of nostalgia hitting you all at once that it makes you want to cry. The 4Kids era, the beginning of the Pokemon Mania era, everything just feels so different to what we got today and Ash is leaving the anime or at least as the main character. Also imagine telling people that you played Ash's aunt, cousins, teacher and Misty's best friend, they won't believe you at first, but it goes to show how this era was so, interestingly different in marketing and how many unorthodox things they did. Also Veronica Taylor played Ash's aunt Hilary here, while the actors for his cousins, teacher and Misty's best friend are unknown.
My first exposure to Pokemon. I got this in the mail in 4th grade. After that, I was patient zero for Pokemon at my elementary school. It spread like a contagion.
The theme was not about catching all the animals. It was about bonding and catching as many as possible. Like an ancient turtle said, "The more you take the less you have."
I literally remember receiving this video on vhs in the mail and was hooked instantly. As i’m sure countless others were too. Can we just talk about how fucking genius that marketing was? Just make a fuck ton of videos and literally drop it in people’s mailboxes?
I actually got this VHS (and I think some other toy) as a kid from one of those pikachu Volkswagen bug cars. I don’t remember the year - maybe 95, 96, 97, 98, etc in the summer. The VHS is probably still laying around at my old place.
The shittiest thing is seeing this and my brain has a blast and i know all the words to the intro song. Despite not reminding seeing this video before.
Why does the opening song for this trailer sound so much better then what we got for The Pokemon Soundtrack version? Maybe it's just me, Pokemon Dance Mix just sounds slightly different in this trailer.
20 may 2022 im sorry im so late discovered this!!! Loved it so precious lovely rare cute stuff here!!! Never seen them before!!! I cry bitter tears cause things are just so weak weird empty i really cant describe enjoy TV anymore
Man, this video. Watching this video all those years ago made who I am today. I recall seeing all the Pokemon Moncolle Tomy figures on the table. I knew it was my destiny to collect them. I still do. I have so many too. I count about 192 different species of Pokemon now. After like 20 years.
I remember this coming to my families house one day and none of us ordered it either after this Pokémon exploded hit time this is amazing thank you for uploading this
Where’s ash’s mom’s dad’s great grandmother’s daughter’s uncle’s cousin’s dog’s goldfish’s owner’s wife’s son at? Really left out an important character
I always thought it was a bit presumptuous of Ash to say that Pokemon was already a phenomenon that would soon take America by storm, as if he new it was already going to be some sort of massive hit that would change the entertainment industry as we knew it for generations to come. I mean, OBVIOUSLY, he was RIGHT, but still!
It was already a big hit in Japan so i'm pretty sure they knew it was going to do extremely well internationally. This isn't even as bad as Sega already calling Sonic "The World's Most Famous Hedgehog" the very game he debuted in.
I'm here after finding out the show is finally ending. Since it was a huge part of my childhood, I thought I'd look back on it's first exposure to the west to relive the old memories I've had of it. I grew up with the show in VHS tapes I had thanks to my brother previously owning them, and as I got older and checked out more of the show, I was pretty disappointed to see how it really struggled from an identity crisis. You can really see looking at the video and his the series is now that it really doesn't feel like the same show, not to mention I was also starting to see the flaws of both the original, and the rest of it. But now, when I thought Ash's adventures were just gonna be one long purgatory, they finally announced and revealed trailers showing that after two and a half decades, they're finally coming to an end. I feel like I've been too harsh on it, so I'm gonna relive some old memories in preparation for the last episodes.
Pokemon in 1998: Check out this cool adventure about collecting these cool monsters! Pokemon in 2023: Riding on the back of a dragon from either the distant past or the distant future, you illegally enter a giant crater, find more creatures from either the distant past or the distant future, then find out that your friend's parents built a massive facility and time machine, died, and replaced themselves with a robot. Also much deeper down there's a secret cave with an extremely powerful turtle that can create crystals and manipulate time.
WHEN I FIRST BECAME 30-YEARS OLD, WHICH I AM RIGHT NOW, I HAVE BEEN STUDYING ABOUT THIS SHOW FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE I EVEN WATCHED THE TRIBUTE VIDEO OF "A SNEAK PEEK AT POKEMON". IF I KNEW THAT THIS TRIBUTE VIDEO IS THAT GOOD, PEOPLE WOULD REALLY THINK YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING ELSE FROM ME EVERY TIME I CAN ASK SOMEBODY TO WATCH THIS KIND OF VIDEO ON RU-vid. NOBODY WATCHES CARTOONS THAT ARE JAPANESE ANIME THE WAY I DO, ESPECIALLY POKEMON SEASON 1!! I HAD A DVD BOX SET OF POKEMON: INDIGO LEAGUE - THE COMPLETE COLLECTION AS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT WHEN I WAS 29-YEARS OLD WAY BACK THEN, AND ACCORDING TO MY EXPERIENCE, THIS DVD BOX SET ONLY HAD 3 VOLUMES THAT ARE BEING CONCOCTED WITH JUST OVER 78 EPISODES, ANYWAY. COME TO FIND OUT, I BELIEVE THAT ASH KETCHUM IS VOICED BY VERONICA TAYLOR, MISTY IS VOICED BY RACHEL LILLIS, BROCK IS VOICED BY ERIC STUART, EVEN NURSE JOY IS VOICED BY MEGAN HOLLINGSHEAD, DELIA KETCHUM - ASH'S MOTHER IS ALSO VOICED BY VERONICA TAYLOR AS WELL THE VOICE OF ASH, PROFESSOR OAK IS VOICED BY STAN HART, GARY OAK - THE GRANDSON OF PROFESSOR OAK AND ASH'S RIVAL IS VOICED BY JAMES CARTER CATHCART, AND OF COURSE, TEAM ROCKET - JESSIE IS VOICED BY RACHEL LILLIS AS WELL AS THE VOICE OF MISTY , JAMES IS ORIGINALLY VOICED BY TED LEWIS , MEOWTH IS ORIGINALLY BY NATHAN PRICE, AND LAST BUT LEAST, GIOVANNI IS ALSO VOICED BY TED LEWIS AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL VOICE OF JAMES HIMSELF, AND OFFICER JENNY IS VOICED BY LEE QUICK IF I RECALL CORRECTLY. AS YOU KNOW, I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT ASH AND HIS FRIENDS ARE A BUNCH OF POKEMON TRAINERS WHO ARE MORE LIKE THE LIFE STYLES OF THE VERY GOOD WHILE THEIR ENEMIES JESSIE , JAMES AND MEOWTH - OTHERWISE KNOWN AS TEAM ROCKET ARE MORE LIKE THE LIFE STYLES OF THE VERY STUPID, AND ALSO THEIR OTHER ENEMIES BUTCH AND CASSIDY - OTHERWISE KNOWN AS TEAM ROCKET ARE MORE LIKE THE LIFE STYLES OF THE VERY VICIOUS! ASIDE FROM THAT, BUTCH IS VOICED IS ERIC STUART AS WELL AS THE VOICES OF BROCK AND JAMES, AND CASSIDY IS ALSO VOICED BY MEGAN HOLLINGSHEAD AS WELL AS THE VOICED OF NURSE JOY. KNOWING THAT, THE BIG QUESTION IS - CAN THE TRUE CHARACTER OF ASH KETCHUM, IF YOU CAN CALL IT CHARACTER, REALLY CUT IT AS BEING THE GREATEST POKEMON MASTER IN THE WHOLE HISTORY OF THE ENTIRE SHOW? WELL, TRUTH TO TELL, I THINK THE ANSWER IS YES! THIS IS WHY ONLY 3 VASTLY DIFFERENT VOLUMES OF POKEMON SEASON 1 ARE USUALLY VERY POPULAR AS THE ONE I'VE GOT IN MY COLLECTION. UNLIKE ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT TELEVISION SHOWS I KNOW THAT AREN'T POPULAR, POKEMON IS THE KIND OF SHOW THAT IS ORIGINALLY MADE IN JAPAN BEFORE IT ACTUALLY TOOK THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BY STORM!!
I liked the opening theme from the beginning of the video better than the theme song we ended up getting. I also can't seem to find the full version anywhere.
Jesus, whoever made this deserves to be a millionaire, it was probably some marketing person who had no idea what Pokémon could be but knew how to get kids hyped
