Pokémon Stadium: VS. Mewtwo & Unlocking Round 2 (Rentals Only)

Welcome back to Pokémon Stadium!
In this video, I will be tackling the VS. Mewtwo mode! This mode is unlocked after completing the entirety of both the Stadium AND Gym Leader Castle modes!
In this mode, you will indeed challenge Mewtwo in a battle to determine whether your Pokémon can prevail over this tough Pokémon!
Just like in the "Anything Goes" part of the Free Battle mode, you can pick less than six Pokémon and press Start to continue and proceed to battle this tough Mewtwo!
This formidable Psychic-type Pokémon uses the following moves:
1. Thunderbolt
2. Psychic
3. Rest
4. Blizzard
Mewtwo will ALWAYS be faster than you, regardless of whether you're using Rental Pokémon or even your own Pokémon from your Red/Blue/Yellow games.
As the title implies, I will indeed be using Rental Pokémon for this bout! I decided against using my own Pokémon from my Red/Blue/Yellow games for various reasons.
Red - I don't have any Level 100 Pokémon
Blue - Same reason for Red
Yellow - I had bumped up my Pokémon's stats prior to doing the Prime Cup, and I figured this mode might've been too easy if I used this team
The following Rental Pokémon I will be using are:
1. Pikachu (Thunderbolt/Thunder Wave/Reflect/Swift)
2. Hypno (Hypnosis/Poison Gas/Psychic/Headbutt)
3. Exeggcute (Leech Seed/Toxic/Psychic/Selfdestruct)
4. Jynx (Lovely Kiss/Psychic/Ice Punch/Body Slam)
5. Jolteon (Thunder/Quick Attack/Pin Missile/Sand-Attack)
6. Onix (Rock Slide/Selfdestruct/Earthquake/Fissure)
Despite having three Psychic-type Pokémon, Jynx is also Ice and Exeggcute is also Grass; I picked Exeggcute and Onix mainly because both Pokémon have Selfdestruct. I picked Jolteon because the Bug-type move known as Pin Missile is Super-Effective against Psychic-type Pokémon, and also because Sand-Attack will drop Mewtwo's Accuracy (meaning that attacks are likely to miss).
Despite having picked both Pokémon that have Selfdestruct as one of their four moves, I need to be careful because Mewtwo's Blizzard will be Super-Effective (Onix being Ground, and Exeggcute being Grass). I selected Pikachu mainly because of Thunder Wave so that I can paralyze Mewtwo, and I selected Hypno so that I could put Mewtwo to sleep with Hypnosis.
Fissure will be banned from this battle because it's a One-Hit KO move, and I don't want to defeat Mewtwo too easily! Because I have banned this move, I have also banned myself from using Pokémon that have Horn Drill or Guillotine.
Once I defeat Mewtwo, I will indeed unlock Round 2 as the title implies!
Next time I record this, I will be covering everything else as Extras.

Bravo. I wonder back as a teen, devs should have made this battle cooler by giving Mewtwo an exclusive battle Banner looking at the player. Him floating in the air instead of being sent out in a Pokeball; unique animations for the battle.

Mewtwo is a pain in the original games, no doubt. R-2 is the real challenge.

Yeah he has that Amnesia attack in round 2 which increases the strength of his special attack

Actually electrode is faster than Mewtwo hence why I thought is was weird you didn't choose him but still awesome to see Jolteon being able to survive a hit

I feel like an easy way to beat him would be to *start* with a psychic enemy, and just spam “psychic” to lower Mewtwo’s “special” ability. Then he’ll do less strong attacks from then on

I replayed the game all this week and defeated Mewtwo using only Jynx and Kadabra. Put him to sleep with Jynx, switched to Kadabra and used psychic so his special goes down. He never once used recover and I ended up K'O him by using psychic over and over again.

With Mr Mime, Electrode and Rattata, Mewtwo is going down easy. Start with electrode (it's the fastest pokemon in gen1) use thunder wave and spam flash - if it survives till the last flash, use thunder. Mewtwo will now almost always miss. Then use rattata with super fang and quick attack and Mr. Mime in the end: Light Screen and Hyper Beam (Psychic is awesome too to lower special... i forgot - it weakens Mewtwo completely). This works almost every time I try this strat.

Maybe you don’t believe me, but I beat Mewtwo on the round 1 with Articuno by freezing him. I forgot to take a print of it, but it was awesome!

Nice video, Just one question, does beating mewtwo in round 1 make him available on Anything goes or is defeating him in round two unlock him?

No, defeating Mewtwo in Round 2 beats the game 100%, I think. You just have to complete Stadium & Gym Leader Castle again to unlock this mode once again.

@@kelanrotta5618 To unlock the VS. Mewtwo mode, you need to complete the entire Stadium (win all cups) AND the entire Gym Leader Castle (all Gyms, Elite Four, Champion/Rival).

I won using Electrode, Jolteon, Arcanine, Exeggute, Slowpoke and Alakazam. Lead With Electrode to get Thunderwavr off then go BOOM Jolteon came out next and just sand Attack spammed Switched into Arcanine and dropped its defences. Switched back into Exeggute to hit with Leech Seed then spam Psychic to try drop it's special and hit with Toxic in tandem with Rest. Lastly Slowpoke came out and after 3 Amnesias I OKO'd it with Surf

In this game, ALL his Moves have no limits, meaning, Mewtwo, as the Final Boss, he can use them as many times as he want, even by spamming Psychic.

I never got to this as a kid. I wonder if you could cheese it with Electrode Explosion. Just bring a couple of electrodes and a hyper beam Tauros to finish it off

Jolteon was unfairly swept. Pikachu lived?! Should've went for a Reflect when you outsped, but that's just me. 5:49 Wow, the emulator does NOT like Onix's profile image. What happened to him? Did he fall into some Tar? Also, why Onix? His base stats are lower than an Oddish! O.O He survived & awoke to the boom! I guess he saw that coming!

Apparently you didn't read the description as to why I selected these six Rental Pokémon for this battle. You should've done that BEFORE complaining and asking why I selected Onix. And anyway, you saw that Psychic gave Onix a One-Hit KO rather than Blizzard. Besides, I didn't pick Oddish because it's a Poison-type; I wouldn't have stood a chance because of both Psychic AND Blizzard. Also, I was very surprised Mewtwo didn't use Rest with 3HP remaining; because it was very low on health, I used Hypno's Headbutt to finish it off. If that Selfdestruct I had used with Exeggcute had landed a Critical Hit, I wouldn't have used Hypno to defeat Mewtwo.

I didn't say you should've used Oddish, and I knew you chose Onix for the moves it had; What I meant was Onix had no chance to do anything to Mewtwo as Onix is weaker than Oddish in comparison. The Self-Destruct could also have been a low damage roll, and got unlucky.

Well, I don't believe that! As I'm sure Oddish would've fainted with Blizzard and/or Psychic in one hit as well. Oddish is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon.

I meant base stats. Oddish vs mewtwo would be dumb as it would get one shot; and I never said you should've used oddish. What I'm saying is if you compare the 2, a giant rock snake is statistically weaker than a small radish regardless of type or what battle they're in. Onix has lower base attack stats than oddish.

If a Pokémon is frozen, it can't use Rest to go to sleep and fully restore itself. If it was a different status problem (Paralysis, Burn or Poison), it can change its status to Sleep after using Rest and then waking up after two turns. As of Gen 2, if a Pokémon is asleep, it can extend its slumber by first using Sleep Talk and then having that move randomly select Rest again. On the contrary, a sleeping Pokémon can use Snore to attack.

You have to complete the entire Stadium AND Gym Leader Castle! If you are playing this game on Nintendo Switch Online, you will have a hard time doing that, and all I can do is wish you the best of luck.

@@crisortiz2527 Because playing with only Rental Pokémon may seem impossible for many players to accomplish; all that will happen is that you will rage here and there, and you will more than likely be unsuccessful at completing the entire Stadium AND Gym Leader Castle with only Rentals. Transfer Pak features are completely impossible on NSO.

man if i was able to bring my crowned zaican from sword and shield at level 100 and fully ev trained and iv trained. my zaican alone would solo this pokemon staduim mewtwo easy by useing crunch and ggs it will be over for mewtwo lol.
