I am seeking to complete a GEN 2 Shiny Living Dex in Pokemon Crystal.
This is from part #28
You can find the full playlist here: • PKM GEN 2 Shiny Living...
In this video I show how I caught a ditto that has the "shiny genes" aka Defense DV of 10, and a Special DV of 10 or 2. This all you need Ditto to have to be able to breed with any (breedable) Pokemon at the 1/64 shiny chance.
All you have to do is deposit your shiny Red Gyarados at the day care center. Then exit the day care center and save in front of the grass on RT. 34. Then you just bike around for a Ditto (5% chance). Use your Master Ball to catch it, then immediately deposit it in the day care center where the Red Gyarados already is. Then go outside and talk to Ditto. If it says "it's brimering with energy OR it shows no interest in Gyarados" then congrats, you found the shiny genes. If it says it is interested or is friendly with Gyrados, you have to try again. There's a 1/128 chance of finding this Ditto. It could take up to 10 hours on average, but you could get lucky. It's worth it imo.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thx.
- RR.

@@snuff3577 Yep!! As long as the Ditto you caught, when you deposited in the daycare with the Red Gyarados (or any other shiny) gave the message "It's brimming with energy" than that means it has the shiny genes, and any Pokemon bred with that Ditto will have a 1/64 chance of the egg pokemon being shiny ! Good luck on the Cyndaquil, I hope you get a quick one! I just hatched a shiny Aipom in 5 eggs, took less than an hour. Most of mine have been about 3-4 hours total.

Great video! "There's a 1/128 chance of finding this Ditto. It could take up to 10 hours on average, but you could get lucky." I think there's a slightly faster method, but only if you have Pokemon Yellow and you have reached the Cerulean Cave. You need to go in there with just a level 63, 64, or 65 Pokemon (need Surf, so likely a water type) in the lead, as many repels as you can, and up to five Master Balls (if you know how to perform the MissingNo. glitch, if not, you can go in with one). Go to the basement level (where Mewtwo is), then spray a repel. You should only encounter level 65 Dittos at that point. Once you catch it, you can tell what its DVs are right away, so for a shiny gene, it needs a Defense stat of 80 and a Special stat of 80 or 70. Try to catch as many as you can, and if you don't get what you need, you can reset the game to try again.

Thanks for stopping by and the comment! It could be, but the same assumption could be made that someone already has Gold/Silver ready with a master ball + Red Gyarados caught and doesn't need to play about 3 hours to do that. But what you mentioned also requires trading. This was a more 'non-trade friendly' version. Lastly, and not that I care, but some people in the pokemon "community" (I use that term loosely) are hell-bent on not glitching, so this is a glitch free method too.
@Mrperson0
@Mrperson0 10 месяцев назад
@@MasterRoninRAhh, yeah, the method I mentioned would be glitch free as well if you just had one Master Ball and saved it for the end. 5 was simply there to make catching more of them faster, and I assume the same would be for your method if you glitched 5 Master Balls so you could have 5 Dittos at once. Even so, it would still require trading from Gen 1 to Gen 2, which shouldn't be too hard to manage nowadays, which is indeed a bit more work to set up.

I might be able to help you out with this. I just need to dig back into my old JP. Crystal save files. I'll comment back this weekend and let you know. If I do have the save file, I'll make a quick video clip for you to see what the message will look like! edit: sorry checked everywhere but I don't have my old JP Crystal save file. If I playthrough again in the future, I will report back.

the explenation considering this video, since shinys in gen 2 where dependant on dv's (iv) they needed both a 2 or 10 in defense and a special (one stat not two) of 2 or 10, since you get a shiny gyarados in gen 2's story you have a pokemon with these stats already. and due to some funky coding in the games when the a pokemon shares a defense dv the same or differing by 8, the pokemon will not breed and will instead say its bursting with energy, if that happens when its trying to breed with a shiny gyarados it means it has 2 or 10 as their defense and special, meaning it has the stats to pass down when trying for a shiny.
@MasterRoninR
@MasterRoninR 10 месяцев назад
The Ditto's defense needs to be exactly 10, and the Special needs to be either 2 or 10. It's because when breeding if one parent is a Ditto, it will ALWAYS pass down its defensive stat, in this case 10. It will have a 50% chance of passing down its Special or otherwise it will pass down that number +/-8. That's why it can be 2, because there is a 50% chance it will pass down 2+8= 10. When you have two Pokemon with the same Defensive DV's and the same Special or if the Special is different by 8, then they won't breed by design b/c they are considered too closely related internally. Then the other 10 needed for an egg is in the Speed stat out of 0-15. Attack can be one of 8 different numbers out of 16 total options between 0-15. Thus, [1/2 chance of passing a '10' stat in Special] x [1/2 chance of passing one of the 8 correct Attack stats] x [1/16 chance of getting exactly a '10' in the Speed stat] = 1/64 total chance a Ditto produces a shiny egg.

Why would the one that says its not intersted or briniming with energy be the right one im just a lil confused tbh if its not intersted in the pokemon does that mean it would say that with all pokemon? Sorry 😅 ive read the description so i get what to do and what to look for
@MasterRoninR
@MasterRoninR 7 месяцев назад
Hey great questions! "Brimming with energy" means that the two Pokémon in the daycare share the same DV # in Defense and either share the same DV # in Special, or otherwise has a difference in that # of +/- 8. Since Gyarados is shiny, that means its DVs in both Defense and Special have to be 10. All shiny Pokemon in GEN2 have DV's #'s of '10' in Defense, Special, and Speed. The Attack can be the 10, but doesn't have to be. Attack can be one of seven other different numbers between 0-15. If you have a Ditto that is brimming with energy when placed in daycare with a Gyarados then that means that Ditto also has Defense DV's of 10, and a Special DV of either 10 or 2 (10-8). This is important b/c when breeding the Male Parent OR Ditto always passes their Defense DV, and a 50% chance of passing their Special DV (the other 50% chance is always +/-8 of that number). So a Ditto that was brimming with energy with a shiny Gyarados when breeding will always pass down 1 shiny DV gene, and a 50% chance of passing down the other. So the only DV stats left that need be '10' for the egg when breeding is Speed, which is a random number between 0-15. So, there's a 100% chance of getting a '10' for Defense, 50% chance of getting a '10' for Special, a 50% chance of getting one of 8 different shiny DVs out of 16 for Attack, and 1/16 chance of getting '10' for Speed. So 1/1 x 1/2 x 8/16 x 1/16 = 8/512 chance of a shiny egg, which simplifies to a 1/64 chance (~1.5%), when you use a Ditto that is brimming with energy with a shiny Gyarados (or any breedable shiny, but that's typically the universal easiest one to get).

What’s the shiny gene stats for ditto?
@Mrperson0
@Mrperson0 11 месяцев назад
It's hard to tell right away since it's at such a low level. However, you can hunt for one in Pokemon Yellow in the Cerulean Cave. Go to the basement level (where Mewtwo is) with just a level 63 to 65 Pokemon, a bunch of repels, and a Master Ball (or more if you glitched them in). With the repel in effect, you will only encounter level 65 Dittos, so the shiny genes you want to look for are 80 in Defense (DV of 10) and either 70 in Special (DV of 2) or 80 in Special (DV of 10). If none of the five you caught match those stats, you can just soft reset and try again.
