Man I wish I was following when I first got back into hobby - I blew soooo much cash when I first got back in. I learned the hard way! I’m much more selective on what I buy for myself personally, and have migrated to a patient, sealed collector/investor. Love what you do man, keep it coming!

Great content and spot on! I've only been at this a couple of months after a good 23 year lay off from back when I lived next door to Wizard of the Coast in WA state. But the approach you mentioned is pretty much exactly what I'm doing. Putting my "fun money" into sets to resell/trade and then buying boxes for my personal collection for long term hold and some to open with my family. I have a little bit of everything but personally enjoy Japanese the most. Thanks for the content!

I enjoy collecting sealed product, mainly BB and ETB. I’ve only picked up the Grenonja Shrouded Fable box and the combined box with Lugia because I liked the promos. I plan to hold and keep buying sealed and sell in twenty years plus.

The one thing I don't understand about Pokemon "investing" is only valuable to you in hopes someone is interested on the product by the time it reaches a certain price point in which it may not be appealing to most.

This video was great Alex. Im about 5 years into this collecting/investing venture. I made my fair share of mistakes from years 0-3. Not to say im perfect now but definitely focused. I used to try to buy one of every product and i wore myself out. Now I collect and invest with a purpose. By time i found your channel i was relatively seasoned already but you definitely helped me hone in on the investmet side of things. I appreciate you and your content more than you know!

Really enjoyed this video, Alex. You definitely brought a lot of your TCG experience that new collectors and investors in the hobby can use to avoid mistakes and stay the course long term. I feel like I followed the exact progression you described after re-entering the hobby in 2017. I'm at a point now where I just buy a case or two of each new booster box and sometimes a case or two of PC ETBs. I made plenty of mistakes early on and got too wrapped up in keeping up with every set, but now I feel so much more confident in my positions. Even though I'm about to become a father, I absolutely still love this hobby and have no intention of stopping. I may have to liquidate some of my older sealed stuff to make room, but I have no intention of exiting completely. It's just too much fun.

I think you should retitle this video to “Pokemon Investing -Things You Should Know Before You Start” This if honestly a fantastic foundational video but also offers a great perspective for people still trying to find their way and being OK with whatever type of investor/collector/hobby enjoyer you are.

Absolutely loved this video, do you think that maybe sometime you could make a video diving into distributors? Like whether or not it’s really worth it to become a distributor, how to become one, and where resellers or shop owners should be looking to get sealed product in bulk and/or where to find bulk lower than retail.

It’s why most golfers don’t have a handicap in single numbers 😂 you can have a couple bad shots but still have a great round and that’s how I see the Pokémon investment the more I’m learning I used to be really worried about getting the right sets as I’m only about 9 mounths in but when you said the swsh boxes have 20 dollars different basically grab every set at good price point and don’t worry at all it will all work out in the end and hopefully we smell a evolving skies and team up and grab a thew more I have learned so much of your Chanel I always ask you quistions in your pack brakes and have never known anyone so helpful I really mean it Alex your a top man and u like how you say it straight but have learned lately not to worry we will check it in 5 years but I do also think even though I’m investing I think I don’t have enougth to as you said might be better flipping untill get better money but this 9 mounths I want a case of every scarlet violet and I do have a thew swsh about 6 boxes fusion strike lost origin and thew others but I’m learning that maybe try step it up a level for year 2 but I have only bosterboxes fair thew slabs n sets but since investing thinking if selling the collection n slabs for boxes

I just got all my 151 booster bundles from wal mart. They had em for 28.98 shipped for a while. I max ordered 12 4 days in a row. They got delayed so I got nervous that I was too good to be true. Nope! All 48 came today but not one was in a sealed case. Everyone was loose. 4 boxes with 12 in them.

I think i need to take some of my evolutions, lost thunder, burning shadows, cosmic and turn it into some surging spark... Have a bunch of hidden fates and evolving skies but feel i should hold that

Started in 2020 right before Covid hit, still going strong. True like you said, you learn everything with experience. What not to touch and the cycles. It doesn't phase me anymore. You start to see trends and what's going to do well and what's not. I used to just buy everything and lost a lot of money. Now I am more niche about what I buy. I stick mainly to ETBs, BB and sleeved pack blisters, and specialty sets.

Buying crown zenith packs from Sam’s for the long term hold. My sealed investments are great and my singles and slab plays are hit or miss. Never take a loan for a pokemon investment lol

For military at gamestop I get 10% off. So normal prices I’m not really paying taxes on or it’ll stack with a current promotion they have. That’s when i load up on sealed products. Only downside is they dont really sell booster boxes only ETBs. But i’ll take a discount where i can lol no shame

Imo, the Pokemon market is going to drop off a cliff once the $600 tax limit goes into effect in 2025 as most Pokemon consumption is powered by a small but deep pocketed population that intend to make a profit. As the risk reward becomes unpalatable due to this tax law, it will have a massive effect on the Pokemon card market. The market will eventually correct itself though. If this is implemented, supply and demand will eventually correct itself but it will take several years. I expect 2025 to have a mass oversupply, which will then lead to historic low prices. Or… there will be a lag and we won’t see that oversupply until 2026

Finally sold my PSA 10 Lugia Secret Rainbow Rare from Lost Thunder on eBay. payed the fee and took the $450. Overpaid for it anyways during the Pokémon pandemic boom 🤙🏽😂 great video topic to share as always!😎

Experience definitely is key! I remember buying a Vivid Voltage Etb for $65 thinking I got a great deal just to find out later they got heavily reprinted lol. Still have it to this day on display so its all good.

Not gunna lie Alex, in the beginning I couldn’t stand your voice and complaining. It was too much and I wasn’t able to process the negative sentiment. But now that you are educating and giving more experiences, plus I am watching full videos, I actually do appreciate your content. I feel you missed the whole playing card game as a start position. I started that way because of my daughter, then the collecting came as part of it. I got tired spending money and my motivation is to self fund this hobby through future profits. As with everything diversification is key.

Set Fatigue is setting in, shrouded fable and stellar crown allocations from distribution is overwhelming financially, cant cancel orders with distribution or else when that next banger set comes out “surging sparks” they won’t fulfill your pre-order allocation fully

Grew up on pokemon i think i prob had 10 charizards over time but as most never knew what they be worth. Ive been watchin on the sidelines for years brought some singles. Always wanted to collect something just didnt know what. Im a lad from uk my mates would crease at me if knew i liked this shit. But i know its a money mine and rather than go wrong road i see the money in this. Just trying to get my knowledge up so your videos are great. I started on japanese 101 for some mad reason. Got 2 booster boxes of stella 1 was to save but fk it ima open for folder. Start selling smalls on ebay to learn how to package before gets serious

Do you have any advice on how you would eventually start taking profits. Not like just selling on ebay, but is there a point of time or size of investment when one should consider an LLC or something like that?

Hey Alex I have a question when I started last year I collected sets now I do sealed only should I sell my sets to buy into more boxes or keep it as a reminder why I don’t open. They also brought memories. Ik if I don’t turn them into boxes they will slightly slow my gains
