On Jah dude, I'm 18 now and I LOVED gen 4 as a kid. I would love to get a copy of D/P/P and play through it again. Gen 4 was, and is still amazing to me. Dialga and Giratina are the sickest looking legendaries imo

I'm not sure how I'm going to add in new games into these Retrospectives. Maybe I'll wait a bit to do the next chunk of games in a part 2. Pokemon Sun and Moon was way better than I expected though, it's crazy how just changing a little bit of context and story can make the game way more enjoyable, which was basically the big complaint I had at the end of this video. Pretty excited to see what Pokemon on the Switch will be like

I still feel like it's a bit too similar to the main pokemon games. If the Kahuna's weren't made to be special people and were just random people you meet on each island rather than renamed Gym Trainers for example.

+tom dick Nintendo fans can be a bit hypocritical because you can criticize Nintendo for doing the same shit (Pokemon, Mario, Zelda) while also criticizing Nintendo for not doing the same shit (Metroid, Starfox, FZero). I think a series can have positive change, while also maintaining some similarities between each game. I think that's what Zelda is able to do the best. I think the difference between Pokemon is that the game play has been consistently good for over 20 years, where the chain of events and pokemon throughout the games can be changed entirely. Pokemon Colosseum is a good example of what I'm talking about. The game has double battles and a unique story, but doesn't start with picking a fire,water, or leaf pokemon, going across the world battling gym leaders, defeating an evil organization. You can change the chain of events, while maintaining all the good parts of the series (Pokemon Battles, Catching Wild Pokemon, Ect.). Paper Mario isn't nearly as consistent as Pokemon, it had two solid games in the series, and then it changed not only the story and chain of events, but the game play as well. There isn't anything wrong with this, but I don't think they pulled it off. Instead of going back to what was established, they keep trying to reinvent the series so they can change things for changes sake. It's a mentality that most people don't like about Nintendo ever since they struck gold with the Wii. Pokemon Sun and Moon look pretty cool, but I can already predict what is going to happen. Your going to start the game and pick a water,fire, or leaf starter Pokemon. Your going to go from city to city battling gym leaders in order to go to the elite four at the end of the game. Before or after the city with the first gym leader, your going to learn about some story involving an evil organization, fighting them off and trying to stop them in between cities. After the 7th Gym, your going to stop the organization and throw the master ball at the legendary pokemon on the cover of the box. Then your going to beat the final gym and the elite four and the credits are going to roll. If the game deviates even slightly from this, it will be a 10/10 Pokemon Masterpiece, but I don't think its going to.

just saying but most of the Pokemon games are the same. Like the fact that multiple games would have the same EXACT town just have different starters or legendaries. Just sayin!

Pokemon has had 7 different generations of games over the course of 20 years that have barely changed in formula besides very minor aspects in gameplay and story, as well as dozens of spin offs and massive line of shows, books, mangas and even a card game. Paper mario has only had 4 games since it was first released in 2001 with only two of those games sharing the same formula and coincidentally those two are the only good games in the series. Since 2007 onwards the series creators have just been experimenting with dumb gimmicks and don't even realize what made the first two games in the series good. Pokemon did all it needed to do by the third generation but continues to tread the same water. Paper mario had a lot of potential to branch out and do more interesting stuff but that was canned after the second game. Stop coming up with these dumb shitty false equivalencies because you're a fanboy

As long as their making departures from the series, I don't care at all if I was wrong. Granted we'll have to see how much they actually changed once the game comes out.

Sun and Moon was probably one of my favorite Pokemon games as of recently! They took a lot of steps in the right direction by reworking the story and gym leaders, changing the way HM's work, and the Hawaii theme really made it feel like the most inspired game so far! I even ended up completing the Alola Pokedex, since it was actually possible to catch every Pokemon in the game, since completing the National Dex was no longer a requirement! Overall, I really liked it!

Thanks for your thoughts! I've only ever played up to Diamond and Pearl, didn't go beyond because the formula never changed. Would skiping to Sun and Moon be a good choice in your view?

@@HyperCharge An eventual update video would actually be very interesting given that Sun & Moon is generally considered to be the worst entry in the series (I personally don't really agree with that statement though as I enjoyed Sun & Moon as well).

Sgt. Paul there is an elite 4 and only 80 pokemon

no gyms (replace with trails) but there is elite 4, more stuff to do aftermath than X and Y, main story is basically about Lillie and her family. "Ok, sure Lillie, go ahead and read while I be off doing trails"
