Police academy: Basic training 

I don't know if I could ever be one, but respect to those who do their job correctly.

Let me tell you all a story: My uncle, Richard Herzog, was a Deputy of the Sheriff's Office of King's County in Washington State. One day, while running down a thief, he was ordered to NOT use his weapon. In the ensuing confrontation, he was shot and killed by the dirtbag. Are there undeserved deaths and harassment at the hands of bad cops? Yes. Are these dickheads the majority? Absolutely not. As with any group, there is always the minority that makes the rest of them look bad. I did not know Richard very well, but it always pisses me off in a special way whenever I see such ignorant, disrespectful disregard for those who work so hard, risk their lives, and sacrifice so much for complete strangers.

I'm starting my physical training now before I finish school so when I apply and hopefully get accepted I'll be ready for the physical training part the rest will just come as time goes on

I was looking this while my nearly five year old child plays beneath me. She didn't react to the shooting noise because she don't know anything about guns and shootings at all. Knowing other kids at her age needs to understand this can be lifethreatening for themselfes or others tears my heart. I'm very happy she can grow up in a safe country. When she is older she will learn soon enough, her grandpa was a police officer.

I’m a Female, and I wanna be a Police but my dad doesn’t let me, he says you’ll have a shorter life and you can die easily, and he tells me to be a Doctor instead, but, that doesn’t make me happy, when I was 10, my dad used to tell me “work down the path to victory.” Now he doesn’t let me. They should have a course in that Police Academy called constitutional law and Bill of Rights and make every Cadet pass

My uncle became a security and now a cop,it was hard,he had aiming,he got shot in the leg with a weird chemical so he can see the pain if he shoots someone and if it's worth their life.

Trained to handcuff like that in academy... never actually handcuffed like that in the streets...

The 1st amendment up through the 6th amendment should be taught at all police academies in the country. Many police departments are lacking in understanding citizens Constitutional rights. We need a change.

Is this a good career option before you decide to move into law later on?

I remember in grade school..5th grade I believe I thought I'd like to be a police officer. But I also wanted to be a philanthropist. Someone keeps saying Someone would make a good police officer but I know matter of fact it's not me. I'd make a lousy police officer now..or even over the last 20 years. I don't even fancy the position anymore. Whoever you are, keep trying while you have mind, body, and spirit.

It sounds like every students must know and fully understand the rules in order to be a fully qualified cop. I’ve always wonder what will the outcome be like if every law enforcement officers or cops know martial arts for example MMA?

Can't wait till I go. The only thing I'm scared of is getting tased. Lol

I think that he did fine, it doesnt sound like hes serious because hes training and he needs to know everything before he face the reality and that when he has to take it serious.

Treating real criminal, including murders, child molesters, school shooters...emotion control skills are part of it. definitely hard and dangerous. My respect for police officers.

I think it's important to discipline police officers as the discipline in martial arts; nonetheless, keep them away as to train them as if they were in the military. The Japanese police force is a good example of this.

We really need to up the fitness requirements for police. My High school PE was more rigorous. Your job is to protect and serve, not get tired chasing someone 5 blocks, and decide to call in backup.

Notice the first thing they learn is shooting? Do they teach how and when to use guns? They just shout "POLICE!" and draw their guns. That tells me a lot. Do they do role playing where they attempt to talk people out of situations? Are cops taught how to rationalize and talk to people as human beings? Are they taught on how to deal with situations without using lethal force unless absolutely necessary? Doesn't seem so.
