To this day, this is a quote from David Graf's Wikipedia: "His funeral was attended by many, many wonderful cast members from the Police Academy films."
0:37 I love the small detail of Tacklebery not ducking as everyone else, since as weapons expert, he knows that shotgun won't fire again untill it's pumped. Edit: He is also very overconfident and "trusting" in guns, that's why he sometimes disregards some gun safety stuff very casually.
Notice how Tackleberry is the only one who doesn't duck at 0:35. Not only because he is a badass, but because he knows that the gus is not yet cycled, and thus it doesn't have a loaded shell in the chamber.
Tackleberry's backstory is that hes a Marine. He didn't break discipline even though a weapon was pointing at him and the fact that yea, won't fire again until pumped.
0:38 Tackleberry doesn't even duck down XD Mostly because he knows that the shotgun hadn't ejected the spent shell and therefore wouldn't fire even if the trigger was pulled at that moment.
It really doesn't matter. The default rule #1 in gun safety is that the gun is ALWAYS loaded, and you never assume otherwise. Thus hitting the deck is a perfectly rational response by the gang.
I will never ever ever grow tired of watching David Graf as Eugene Tackleberry. He absolutely steals this 'little' scene and makes it so much more. One of the most perfectly cast roles in the history of cinema. RIP, good sir.
you can say that again I have them o DVD the whole lot my Nan always said to me ALLWAYS witchi a comedy movie's if you feeling down and out it ALLWAYS make you feel better and that's the best Advice She ever gave me and I was 7 way back then and THAT was the best Advice She ever told me I'm 46 now and I still use that Advise today in 2018 and I allso tell my mates to do the same thing especially the female one's because in today's world females seems to listen to you more than male's to with this kind of Advice anyway
I just love how Tackleberry has that confidence when he goes “Come with me.” to the instructor like in an action movie before he hauls ass off on his own. 😂
When I was a kid I looked at the instructor as an obstacle for the recruits. As an adult I have a lot of sympathy for him considering what he had to work with.
I heard someone say 'Come with me' today and I totally thought of this scene. I was sad when I heard he passed away. He was one of my favorite characters in Police Academy.
It's eerie how the same year (1984) the Terminator was released and almost the same line was also used by Kyle Reese to Sarah Connor "Come with me if you want to live!"
David Graf will always be the funniest of all the actors in the franchise. Huge and eternal respect to all the actors who gave us a happy and carefree childhood!
@@aussiejezza Police Akademy march 1984 production 1984. Terminator production 1983 distrubution from october 1984. So Come with me in PA and Terminator was simultaneusly. Come with me if you want to live. Kyle Ryse to Sarah Conor inTerminator 1
It still makes me laugh every time I watch this scene it was so freaking hilarious both with that one guy who shot the cardboard cutout of the girl with a balloon and causing everyone to duck when he turned around and then when Tackleberry takes the gun and then starts shooting everything screaming like a lunatic and Lt. Harris's reaction and the look on his face thinking 'God Help Us All with this Guy'.
Humor aside, how about Hightower's awareness and accuracy though? He was SPOT ON in his responses here. I've seen videos of a lot of real cops responding too slowly or cautiously compared to this. Hightower probably was the best in the whole group, and would make a great cop in real life.
Yea I would probably assign cop with the bad trigger finger desk duty as that way he won't be a danger to anyone, just make sure he's always on driving duty when he team up with some like Hightower, or make sure he's assigned to dispatch as with a bad trigger finger like that I wouldn't trust him with a gun.
The amount of unshouldered shotgun use still irritates me to this day. Luckily, the sight of Tackleberry rampaging through the course and screaming like a lunatic more than makes up for it.
@Todes zauberer778 try that with slugs from a short barrel. shotgun will want to fly out of your hands or want to break your bones in the hand if tight on a pistol grip.
To the people who passed away my thoughts are with your family you may be gone but not forgotten the police academy movies are still a classic to watch after all these years later thanks for a good laugh and the memories appreciate you guys thanks job well done you should be proud ! Joe
0:34 Tackleberry was such a gun lover that he was the only cop who didn't cover up when the shooter was pointing backwards...because he knew the shotgun couldn't be accidentally fired
0:35 I actually saw a guy do this while (attempting) to shoot skeet off the back of a cruise ship; right AFTER he told them he was a firearms "expert".
Just a great classic movie after theses years later to the actors and actresses who passed away my thoughts are with your family you may be gone but not forgotten still going strong keep the laughs coming love and appreciate you guys thanks you guys rock way to go thanks ! Joe
with rumors of an 8th film being planned, I really hope they don't re-cast Tackleberry and Hightower. Bubba Smith and David Graf defined their respective characters that we've come and known.
Somehow, Tack is efficient like 100 policemen! Notice! When Leslie Barbara turn on the group with rifle gun the only one don't go down is Tack! Because he knows Leslie don't reload it! Tack you are a LEGEND!!!!!
