The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is providing an update after a gunman opened fire at a splash pad in a Detroit suburb over the weekend. At least nine people, including two children, were wounded, police said. The 42-year-old gunman was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at a nearby home, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said earlier.

Awesome and honest presser. Great job Sheriff. I do want to say that I've personally known 2 families that did see something and say something but there was no help or follow through. This was Macomb County. As you said, there's limited resources. Law enforcement said they can't do anything unless something happens. Hospitals had no beds. Even caring officials have their hands tied.

The sheriff has seen it all. He speaks of years of experience with people who come into the system. Mental health is such a huge issue and it’s not being addressed. And we know that we have to keep guns out of the hands of people who are ready to freak out and snap because they have a mental health issue or a drug problem. We have to protect the public.

Sending prayers to everyone who has been affected by this "latest" tragedy 🙏 I must say it is way beyond time to finally ask for mental health help, however it's never to late. I have struggled with mental health issues for over 20 yrs & there really isn't an abundance of help out here. You don't see any more mental health locations popping up anywhere & it's surely not for a lack of building bc building properties hasn't let up. It's a shame however if we keep speaking louder someone may finally hear us

My Sheriff, Oakland County has some of the safest communities in the country and although this guy was actually from Shelby Township and not Oakland County every area has some dangerous people.

Obviously, there are not enough laws. Guns are falling into the hands of the wrong people. Should we not protect the public? Just like we should know what kind of people are crossing the border we should also know who the people are that are buying guns. Wouldn’t you agree that people who have a history of mental health problems should not be able to purchase guns?

@@cindyweir9645 criminals do not obey laws, only law abiding citizens are effected by laws...more laws won't help...start doing something about the mental health problems in this country.

@@cindyweir9645I agree with you to a point. But who gets to decide? Anyone who takes medication for depression is technically getting help for mental health. Should this disqualify someone? Someone who has been abused and seeks help. Should they be disqualified?

As a mental health provider for 30 years, I cannot recommend anyone go into the field due to high stress, low wages and mostly no benefits. We need mental health but refuse to pay for it.

This was a good press release. I have a question regarding the family members seeing him walk around the house carrying a gun talking about his paranoid delusions. Didn’t the family members tell police that this was going on? It seems like it would be common sense to report this to police. I once heard that, in another country, maybe Germany, a wife anonymously reported her delusional husband with a gun, by written letter, I think because they were middle eastern culture and she feared him. And because it was anonymous and they couldn’t get back with her, they had visited with the husband and he lied and made everything seem normal. He ended up shooting up a Jehovah’s Witness’s church. So that government had to change procedures. My question is: what happened, in this case, that this guy was able to proceed in his freedom to carry out his armed, delusional, behavior if the family did, indeed, report it? Thank you.

@@disastermaster1413 Maybe you were absent that day in American history where they covered the part when two Kennedys had their brains blown out. RFK doesn't stand a chance either way, come on. His own family is spelling that out for you. All you would be doing is casting a vote for Chump doing that.
