Oh man loved that game, digitized graphics and that it all looked like real not cgi, I wish there were such detective adventure games with this fotorealistic digitized graphics nowadays
Personally I'm more into the SWAT direction the series took, but as far as detective games go, LA Noire was goddamn good and some of the Assassin's Creed games have crimes to solve - Syndicate in particular.

In all my years of playing this game, I never thought to use the mirror on the bed to check if someone was under there. That was pretty good. And I only just realized about using the skeleton key on the paper towel dispenser to reveal the hypodermic needle in there.
Yea I never thought of that either. My problem was, after the dog ran off, I got to the stairs, opened the door and it just shows your character standing in the first room, with a picture of a dog, a loud barking sound, the screen turned red and apparently I didn't survey the area before entering. Well, when I reloaded my game, all you kept hearing was that dog barking sound over and over and over. Never did beat this, but I always thought that Sonny Bonds was the main character in Police Quest and for that to suddenly change kind of put me off to the series, although I did enjoy the Police Quest: Swat series that followed.
Its 16bit. And it was common at the time to have music always going in RPGs to ease the silence of thinking of answers for 45 minutes while you smoke cigarettes cus it's he 90s
Tried playing this one back in the day, but couldn't get into it. Felt wrong not playing as Sonny Bonds. And the music was terrible. Loved the other 3 though.
You got that right. A cardboard cutout would have been more engaging than John Carey(or the actor who played him). NTM the graphics, music, and backgrounds make it look like they were shot around 1970. It's just not Police Quest without Sonny or Lytton.
@@DrJekyll38 Nothing to do with the actor, it's the writer Tammy Dargan. In fact, the voice and screen actors are totally different people. The original floppy version didn't have spoken lines, they were added 3 years later in the CD version. She's also the one who put in the racist character caricatures. PQ1-3 was written by Jim Walls, a retired cop.
Love the atmosphere and aesthetic of the old low res photo adventure games. But why was the music so frantic and ever changing. It's like someone improvised doing random tapping on a keyboard for hours

One thing I've noticed when watching someone else's replay of this game recently is if you look out Mitchell's living room window it mentions you are on the second floor. Shortly later, you throw the ball out the window and the dog jumps out! Yikes!
In the final scene, the mayor claims that by killing they psycho, Carey solved five homicides. But if that's Hickman, Garcia, Parker, and the two nudes in Parker's car, WHOSE HEAD WAS THAT IN THE FRIDGE!?
The one thing i don't get about this killer is why he killed his social worker. That's how you find the guy, because he was such a genius that he killed his own social worker and that's how you find his file in her office. It's a good game, but the killer's motives are not explained. He's also supposedly very intelligent, but he's also Forest Gump type "special" at the same time...
Yeah.....I'm with you there friend. That last puzzle is bullshit. I mean, how the hell are you suppose to know that you need a lighter and that it would be in the FUCKING MOUTH OF THE SEVERED HEAD. Sorry, but that last part gets to me.
My favourite in the series. Never cared much for Sonny Bonds his drama story. Chasing a serial killer however... Gave me the Se7en feeling before Se7en was even released.
B&B first aired March of '93 (though Judge's original 'Frog Baseball' short was '92). This game released November '93. Still, that's amazingly topical for a game.
I remember enjoying playing this game, but watching this playthrough... oof. This game is mostly a) affixing your badge, b) taking the elevator, c) filling out 3.14 forms, d) disjointed dialog with bad voice acting.
Instead of an instruction booklet, the game came with the training manual for the LAPD, which was loaded with information that was COMPLETELY USELESS TO A DETECTIVE! All these procedures were listed that would only help if you were on traffic patrol. I had no idea that Chief Gates was so full of himself that he would give no information on how to play the game. If you had never tried a Police Quest before, YOU WERE SCREWED!
The problem is this is a walkthrough. The dialogue is disjointed because the player is jumping to the required dialogue, not the logical dialogue and in this game particularly, it makes the plot impossible to follow. Watch a longplay or better yet play the game yourself, it's much more enjoyable.

There's two references to him. The name of the server the police computer uses is named SONNY and if you play the arcade games (at least one of them anyway) he's one of the high scores.
Ah yes, early 90''s multimedia games. Horrible MIDI music? Check. Pixelated digitized 256 color Mode 13h VGA graphics? Check. Terrible writing? Check. All the charm of earlier Sierra games successfully removed? Check. I remember playing this game in its original release and being very disappointed. The version in this video is the CD-ROM re-release that came some time after the original, and I think it only made the game worse, with the horrible voice acting.
hahaha the music isnt the greatest soundtrack of the police quests by far, but when they put in a piece of music from Leisure Suit Larry 6 at 11:57 it sure gets you out of the minimal form of immersion you maybe had!
Are there any point and click games with digitized graphics like this which are higher resolution? I'm just curious to see what that would look like. I'm kind of having a hard time imagining it

@9:08 I keep getting a "There is no need to complete an additional report on the incidents regarding the alley at this time" - Interestingly, I've tried replaying the game atleast 3 times now and have made sure I did everything at the crime scene. Unless it's a bug, pretty frustrating.
@Jack Blade He was abused by his father I believe at a young age, and lost his mother at a young age. I think it's mentioned that he found his mother murdered. I believe his father murdered her and he may have even witnessed it. Essentially, he became "mother" when he went on his killing sprees. Definitely inspired by Norman Bates.

@@TheIwanttoapologize wow are you a detective yourself? i guess you played a lot more details out in this game then this playthrough, i have the feeling that this walkthrough leaves a lot of story out of it, i usually love the playthroughs of this youtuber, but his police quests feel rushed
