Did you know you can use the male flower to pollinate the female when there are no bees around to do the job? Get out there early in the morning when the flowers are open.
We have gone from having thousands of bees around pollinating the citrus a couple of months ago to nothing just when we need them to pollinate our kamokamo and buttercup squash.

My Mother who passed away at the beginning of 2022 aged 95 used to take the seeds out of the Kamokamo and stuff them with mixture of mince and other flavours and bake them in the oven Delicious 👍

Can't beat the old mince and kamokamo alright, good kai! I like to grate the excess and freeze for winter stews and soups when veges are expensive.

That's cool I grow kamokamo and I didn't know you needed to do that I thought the one's that didn't grow just didn't grow

Hey Mike, You should go to Papamoa beach to get some Tua Tua...there are plenty and they are fat as now...take a bottle for sea water to soak them and let them spit their sand. Love ya vidz...keep it up man🙏

Fantastic mate. I do the same with my pumpkins. As you would know. It's slower growing, of course. Some people just don't understand how healthy and delicious fresh fruit and veg from the garden are. Awesome 👌

Should increase your pollination this way bro until the bees turn up. Still not many around my plants.

When I was growing up over home I would help my father and uncles to do this every year just to make sure we got a good crop

Some people have been asking on a Facebook group about pollinating kamokamo. And some had no idea which flower was which though Google will give the answers 🙂 I'm doing the pumpkin as well at the moment.

There was for a couple of weeks but I see some around now pollinating the flowers.

Kia ora Mike do you know why I only have male flowers? I have 3 plants and I have only had one female which I did this to after watching your post and I got a kamokamo. Vut that was and still is the only female flower! I even pollinated male with male 😅😅😂 nothing!!!

Kia ora Desiree, a good question and is something that I am going through now with my pumpkins and kamokamo after getting 20 kamokamo from one seed and that is probably due to the heat and not enough water. Could be also from too much nitrogen. Plants tend to grow mainly male flowers in that environment. Good try on the male to male though😬
