At $1699 USD this is the best value in a 24 inch Full Suspension Bike we have come across to date. Bravo Polygon. Where to buy: bikesonline-usa.sjv.io/WDrd0G
@@whispering_pines Sorry that is the one I was talking about! I'm just concerned about the fit of the 26" wheel set when we are ready to upgrade....ugh....
@@KenRupin No worries! I figure three years on this bike and then the kid will either be really into it and put some sweat equity ($$$) into the next purchase - if that's what he is still interested in doing. That's a long while in kid years, so who knows. I wouldn't sweat the upgrade just yet.
Looking to get one if these for a couple of my nephews to share because I dont want to buy 3 right off the bat and two dont even get into it 😂 Great review! Very helpful.
great review, I just purchased one for my daughter, going to be a game changer for bike park season next year! A little bummed to find out that it isn't actually convertible, I'm pretty sure that was still a selling point in the ad copy on their site when I purchased it. Oh well, we will easily be getting a few years out of it anyways. keep up the good work
You probably can get a 2-2.2 inch 26 tire in the back...or grab an offset bushing for 20 bucks and a front 26 rim/tire and make it a mullet! I might give it a go if I can keep the tester longer, will report back if so.
So I just got this same bike for my son and put it together and while the brake rotor came bent on the front wheel (i'll figure that out, hoping they will just send me a new rotor so I can swap it out), the bigger issue is the brake cable on the front. I put it through the clamp on the fork, however it doesn't stop the cable from being able to slide down through the clamp and give it enough slack to make contact with the spokes. Have you ran into that problem with this bike at all? I can just throw some zip ties around the fork and keep the cable from being able to contact the spokes, but that's not ideal. Let me know if you came across this issue and what you did? Or maybe your clamp tightens down more than mine so your cable stays put in the clamp? Thanks in advance!
Just my experience from buying a 2022 D24X, a 26” 2.4” Continental Trail King fits fine, has more clearance than the same tire and wheel on a Rocky Mountain Reaper Jr/Grom. Also the price inn late December 2022 and early January 2023 was $1099 for a D24X and $699 for a D24!
Great review! I got a similar size kid and your review helps a lot! About the crank and chainring, is it a standard 76mm BCD? I am considering a 30T or a lighter chainring for smaller kid will help.
Silly question, Roughly what pressures did you end up using to set the suspension? My son is 58 lbs and I set the fork around 15-20 psi and he doesnt appear to be able to compress it. How low can you go fork/shock pressure?
Hmmm, that sounds pretty low. Make sure to back all the rebound and compression dampening off and maybe let all the air out. Add air in 5 PSI increments cycling the fork through its travel. Go up to 50 or so then Start letting air out until you get working decently. I go as low as I can get it with the fork returning at decent rate and it holds up statically some (reasonable sag). With kids this small suspension is tough…basically just for big hits and they need to be riding at speed. Tire pressure takes care of the small chatter. Good luck!
Thanks for the review! Can you tell me what tires you put on again? Maybe a link? And what seat would you recommend? Bummer about not being able to fit a 26" tire on the rear. That was a BIG selling point for me. Had a YT Primus on order, but went with this one because of the option to run 26" down the road. I was trying to wait until his b-day in December to give him this, but might have to make it an early gift to get some rides in before the winter! Thanks again!
I can fit a 26” 2.4” Continental Trail King easily on both front and back of my D24x. I picked up a Diamondback AM260 wheelset (circa 2012) for $50 off Facebook marketplace. Actually there is more room with this tire on a Polygon D24x versus a Rocky Mountain Reaper Jr/Grom.
My son (8) has been riding a Cannondale Cujo 20" (No suspension) and just getting into trails. What are your thoughts on the D24 on sale at $1099 (vs $1299) vs the D24X at $1699 to get him started? Would the $600 upgrade be worth it? I'm also put off by the misleading (not exactly false) advertising about the rear 26" conversion. Kinda makes me wonder what else they aren't telling us.
It will fit a 2.2 inch rear tire as a 26 but you can always run it a mullet set-up. The wight to a full suspension is a big jump if just getting into trail riding. At $1099 the D24 is a crazy good deal for a great frame. If you are hitting the lift access bike park, I would not hesitate. If you are going to be riding primarily sidetrack that involves climbing, a nice hardtail might serve you better.
If the 26 doesn't fit in the rear how is there a screenshot shot of Maxxis 26 tires in your video for a front tire. Does the fork also have to change? Just thinking maybe there's away to actually fit a 26 in the back.....
It does fit a 26 in the back albeit a narrow tire, 2-2.2 inch max. The front fork is a 26 inch wheel fork an can accommodate and wider 26 inch tire, no need to change.
@@TheBikeDads hoping that for the 2023 model they make it for true 24&26 tire clearance. It's neat that you can run a mullet set up. Have you contacted Polygon to advise them of that and the bushings?....maybe an additional video of you doing that could help the consumers look at a multitude of options!! 😏
@@pedallinwithparedes To be honest, we are not huge fans of convertible 24/26 bikes as you will always be compromising somewhere. We do like the convertible bike platforms out there just in a specific 24 or 26 depending on the bike. We really like the idea of this bike as a mullet as the kids grow and perhaps they go that route and market it as such. You can bump the fork travel up 20 mm as well, its just an internal adjustment.
@@TheBikeDads any new updates on the bushing or alternative to making it a solid mullet? Thanks and keep up the great videos. Just picked this bike up for their BF sale. Untouchable at that price. Cheers.
Can you put a 4’11 adult female on this bike? What is the weight capacity, same as adult full suspension bikes? Seriously thinking of converting to a 26”, as I have a petite rider who cannot get comfortable on any small frame adult bikes on the market. The few XS adult frames available are out of her price range. Thank you! Liked and Subbed!
I bought a siskiu n9, worst bike I have ever owned. Going to take parts off and put on a stumpy evo alloy frame. For the price, would love to get for my son as a starter bike.
Think I message ya on IG, but hey, an extra comment and like to help the algorithm is always good. :) Would you take this over a used Jeffsy 24 for the same price?
Not a great idea. 1) you increase the the unsprung weight if adding a heavier cassette which makes the suspension not perform as well especially for kids (same goes with heavy tires and wheels) 2) the rear hub has an HG driver which does not fit SRAM or Shimano wide range cassettes above 50 T 3) 46 T is plenty for kids considering the gain ratio. I would get the lightest 10 spd 46 T cassette and pair with a 30 T front chainring. That would put you at similar bail out gain ratio as an adult 51T, 29er with 170 cranks with 32 Front chainring. A 28 T on the front will be even easier gear for the kids then adult scenario. Hope that all makes sense.
