Throw some Talapi in there, and they will eat the algae, and then you can eat them. Catch clean cook in the outdoor kitchen.

I have Canna's that get over 8 feet tall, Mine are planted along two east walls of my house very near my huge brick fireplace chimney. They bloom every fall and have been for over 10 years, Oh, I live in Michigan.
