Pontiac G8 Review - Worth Buying in 2023? 

as someone who owns a fully built G8GT at 20 there’s one thing that’s needed to be known. THESE CARS ARE NOT CHEAP OR BUDGET FRIENDLY. there absolutely amazing cars and reliable cars. but if you don’t wanna be at the pump everyday you don’t want one of these. also when your buying parts a lot of them are extremely hard to find since there discontinued. luckily tho the g8gt and gxps fit most corvette or ctsv parts, but again, not budget friendly.😂

Timeless, classic right there. Bad ass car brother! Ive been dying to get one of these. Im a mopar guy but man im hoping to pair my chally with one of these bad boys. Enjoy your car man 👍✊

I’ve got the uk version a 2008 VXR8 ls2 manual I got it a year ago with 19,000 miles on th clock it’s immaculate and paid under 20,000 I love it! it’s an excellent motor I doubt there’s a better value car on the road for pure bang for buck 😎 Next stop super charger

As a former base, GT, and SS owner keep in mind that the parts for these cars are getting very hard to find and expensive especially for the ss (I can’t stress that enough). If you live in a big city most likely these cars will be abused so if you can try to look somewhere further away from the city for one of these cars. If you’re getting a base model be aware or the timing chain issue and for the GT be aware of the lifters failing due to “AFM” (active fuel management) but this usually happens after 120k miles

My v6 (first car) convinced me to add a gt to the collection, love them both and will probably never sell either of them

Glad to see you enjoying the g8 i got a g8 gt earlier this year and its a very fun car to drive. Im a big mopar fan but this car ia solid. And i like how well it takes to mods. This car will hang with any v8 muscle car out there in 2023

Agree bro picked mine up 16k clean title 1 owner with 6 piston front 4 piston back red brembo, Red and black interior,$1200 headlight, cat back ehaust, 2022 ss midnight wheels , just to name a few at least another 3k in add ons I had to put in already 12k of my own money in 6 months Full engine rebuild with dod delete new high pressure oil pump all the goodies New 3.27 diff New set of headlights 1200 Radio was bad causes all them to go out All replaced $900 with new radio and program New red suede headliner cuz other was hanging Another 1500 for all the control arms and bushings I had to replace So much more. Don’t get these if you are not ready 💰

Just bought 2009 G8 GXP (White) to add to my 2017 SS (Black) and my 2022 CT5-V Caddy (White). Can't wait until it arrives. The GXP is a manual 6 speed. (The SS and CT5-V are automatics.) I love these cars. The last of the fast ones. Will hold them all for a while. Building a nice stable. May buy another SS and add a Whipple to it just for fun. Nice video. Love the car.

My 09 GXP is amazing to drive, I hate when I leave it parked to keep the miles low. The power is addicting from the ls3, and adding the VCM CAI caused the car to be more responsive. Still need to get the car tuned with the CAI

Only issue i have with my g8 is the rain, i am on stock tire and wheel setup but i find that its a little more prone to hydroplane than the other vehicles i drive

Dude I have a base trim G8 with that signature red with orange highlight G8 colour, and it’s still got PLENTY of get up and go-and for a heavy sedan she handles like a dream. Road trips are wicked… drove across Canada when I first bought it. You’re spot on about the front end… it’s sexy and looks mean with the flared wheel wells! Most people have no idea what kind of car it is. So many people ask me what it is and think it’s nice, but when they pull up beside me at the lights, they aren’t ready for what’s under the hood! a dude from Australia come up to me asking how I got I holdem🤣 I want to get a crate engine and just turn it into a mad machine…not worried about money at all.

fun fact the gxp actually had the same hp as the vette at the time. it was displayed as 15 less hp bc the vette is their baby.

Ive had my gt for 10 years and im starting to get all the common 6L80 issues. Debating if its worth keeping or selling it since prices are crazy on these right now.

I got one for 10k but bro it’s missing so much interior stuff 😢 other than that it’s not mechanically terrible came with some goodies like an exhaust, dod delete ,cam ,converter caddy breaks in the front. But regardless it’s a very fun car.

What is wrong with the V6?

Can you get the active fuel management deleted from a tune for the orginal motor ?

When you do 40 rolls and such don’t slap it back over to normal mode. Just upshift her accordingly. Or run her in sport mode 100% of the time.

I'm the original owner of a 09 GXP and it is better than my first car a 67 GTO with the 400 HO, both automatics. The GXP handles like it's on rails and stops on a dime. I sold the GTO after 30 yrs and bought a 96 Porsche 993 Targa, although I miss the GOAT sometimes. The GXP is the perfect replacement 13.0 qtr mile stock vs. a best of 13.44 in the goat. I'll be selling the GXP in the spring as I still have the 993 and a 77 280z, which will also be sold because although retired, I don't have the health and time to dedicate to all of them. Get the car you love and enjoy it while you can, cause someday, you might be able to.

The G8 is like Holden and GM had a pair of twins in Australia, one they called Commodore VE and the other was sent overseas to the US and given a foster home, a trusted couple well known to GM called the Pontiacs, they gave their new adopted baby the name G8. Like twins raised apart you still get some differences but essentially the same. It's awesome Australia and the US has this Auto connection. Just a shame GM could have allowed Holden to continue just making specialty cars for specific market, both here and abroad. hi end power 4 door sedans and utes that could have really created a rare situation where these cars future was a cooperative development of HSV and your American equivalent. HSV have been doing Chevys now for some years.

Id say no cause my g8 broke every other week its was always something from lifter failure to drive shaft bearings to transmissions failures hell even the door speakers stopped working better off getting the newer chevy Ss

A holden is always worth it

I bought my 2008 G8 GT when they first released here. I ended up putting a Corsa catback exhaust and Kooks mid-length headers on it, plus a dyno tune to get everything flowing properly. That has always been the best sounding car I've ever owned, and the fact it was a 4dr roomy sedan was just a bonus. I ended up trading it in for a 2013 Mustang GT 5.0 Cal Spec convertible. I wish I still had it, but I doubt it would have lasted into 2023 without doing major mechanical work to it.

Wow , why would you not want a g8 gt like yours. It is as much as any new model , any manufactures .I would do my g8 gt just like yours , if i had the coin.Bought it at 42k in 20012, with 220k now. You are very smart , for a young man. I wish they had cars like this when i was young .I am 66 , and when i mix it up with other's on the highway , they are surprised when they see who's driving . Did you have to mess with any of the computer settings when you put the 6.2 in ?? Jim rockford was my hero , and i learned how to do forward and reverse bootleg turns with dads 98 olds. tried it with the g8 and the e brake shoe broke off

I had a 3.6 fully gt swapped interior and mechanical eventually vortech s/c it and made about 560whp on a cool mi day and it was an absolute road ripper with unbelievably good handling for its size but ive since moved on to a 2018 awd q50rs making 617whp and a 09 saab 9-7x with ls2 that also has a vortech s/c making 680whp and i dont think i could ever trade these to have that g8 again

Great, until you can't find an A/C compressor disharge hose. If you live in northern Canada, this will not be an issue. If you live in Texas. Look out. You will not be driving this car in the summer if that hose springs a leak.

As a 09 Holden Commodore VE (09 Pontiac G8) owner, I'd rather have a V6 3.6L rather then the GT, because the GT's engines are trash & need DOD always. I have a V6 & i'm at 221k miles never replaced the timing chains or the transmission. Only thing i ever had to replace was the transmission filter after i hit 220k & the alternator. As long as you keep up on oil changes you will never need to replace the timing chain. 😎

its only worth it if u dont have a lifter failure. LOL.
