I can not believe what I just watched. You’ve got a pulley, use it for the mechanical advantage. By hooking the pulley to a tree you gained nothing but a direction change. Pulley needed to be hooked to the stuck skidded. Winching skidded wirerope goes through pulley and back to itself. 2 to 1 mechanical advantage.
Should have learned that in physics class.. how to use what Timothy suggested. But we were entertained just the same, and the video lasted longer.. lol
True, that works if you have enough cable. It appears they used the block to place the winching machine facing down hill, since it was pulling itself backwards on the first try, where it was facing up hill. If they double lined it with the winch uphill, it would just pull it backwards even easier unless you had something big to anchor it to. It takes a lot of line once you start double or triple line rigging.
Big toys there...looks like fun.I gotta drive one of them skidders one day. I appreciate the fact that you went to the trouble to record this while working on the problem. Good work and great video 🤙🏻
It's too bad you guys didn't have a cable skidder. That might have helped you a little bit. Up north here my old man ran chains all year long on his timberjack 380 turbo. Good video!
I enjoyed reading your replies to all the arm chair quarterbacks in this comment section. Were there mistakes?? Absolutely but nobody's perfect and you knew you were going to get blasted in the comments but you had the guts to post it anyway for our entertainment. Good job. The camera angles and editing were pretty good for a channel your size. Nice.
Thanks for watching. I've been stuck several times on our jobs, but that one was the first time I've had to be dug out. Hope you will keep checking us out and be safe out there.
You can tell by the way this piece of property looks that some or all of them are stupid. I do clean ups for 3 mills and 4 land management groups. I used to clean up after a crew that didn't know enough to not work when it was to wet. They finally got fired and went out of business.
Damn Right ✅ I've been there a few times,I run 948L,purty hard to get hung up with the Huge Grapple on it,Pushing with it with the blade all the way up and try not to spin the BIG Tires. One round can put ya a foot or more deeper,But yeah great job with what you had ,Thanks
I see that everyone in the comment section is an expert!!! Comment section knows everything but 99.99% of them have never even seen a skidder let alone operate one.. This is logging you do what you have to and work with what you have!!!
Your absolutely right. Everyone is an expert at running there mouths. My old man logged for 30 years. And that's how we lived. You make use of what you have, we never had brand new stuff.
the way yall rigged the pulley didnt help you at all. the pulley should have been on the stuck machine and dead end of cable to the tree that would have doubled your pull
If its s 5,000# machine ...you don't use a 3,000# snatch block...then act surprised when it fails ...plus mud adds twice or 3 times the weight of the machine...so next time ( and there will be one ) double or triple your winch cable to pull out a stuck machine.... Good luck ...
Not being a logger there's probably a good reason I'm missing here, but why wouldn't the Tigercat have lockers? Would've been a big help in this mess for all 4 wheels to be turning not just the opposite two.
Good eye Dan, it does have lockers, but the diff lock wasn't working and of course we didn't know it until we hit the drain. It was fixed as soon as we got it out, thanks for watching.
@@chadkemper Thanks for coming back to me on that, makes sense it would have the facility just got me wondering when I saw it struggling. Glad you got it out despite sod's law conspiring against you, 73
That's a good tip, what killed him was 2 or 3 things. The first was he was in an area he wasn't supposed to be in (hopefully lesson learned). The second was the diff lock wasn't working and we didn't know it until we stuck it. Number 3, I better keep to my self...: ) Thanks for watching, we really do appreciate it.
Thanks for watching, we have ran some chains in the past on our 648. The skidder driver was backing up trying to get a drag and crossed over a drain, he thought he could get out and probably made it much worse by spinning. At the time, he didn't have that much experience on a skidder and was learning. It cost us sometime and money, but we did get it out and he hasn't made the same mistake again.
@@chadkemper everybody's an operator.... probably in terrain like that you could be on solid ground one second and in soup a couple seconds and a couple feet later. And it all looks the same until its too late. We've all been there and done that. Some people just won't admit it.
Proper punishment for a guy who got it stuck in the first place is for him to have to wash the skidder thoroughly with a small pressure washer :) Good thing nothing got broken during recovery. Cheers!
Well been there done that. Attach the pulley to the stuck skidder and then bring the line back to the winch. You'll get twice the pulling power. Another approach is back out with both winches pulling. Chains might have helped not getting stuck in the first place. All that being said nobody got hurt and equipment not broke. Good job.
That was my thought. I have ran skidders before and thought that both wheels would turn with a limited slip type of set up. That one was either broke or didn't have one.
You can use the wiggle the steering and use grapple to get yourself unstuck I’m not sure if you know how or not but it would’ve less stress on the cable
Yes, that's a good technique when it works. We were able to use the steering wheel at first, but this mud got so tacky that we quickly lost the ability to move the steering cylinders and couldn't even use the blade to push machine up at the end. We also found out while we were in the hole that our diff locks weren't working. We fixed that situation immediately once we got the machine out. Thanks for watching and we hope you will continue!
You would think they would be smart enough to pull it out backwards. Hook the stuck skiddedrs cable to a tree and hook the other skidded to stuck skidded and winch together. Da
I would have lowered the wings and engaged the thrusters !!! And right as it started to come up you hit the hyperdrive and presto your unstuck!!! Geezz was it your first day or something? 😉 😂
At least you were pulling, but I hate to hear you had so much trouble. Sometimes my wife tells me we're better off to stay at the house. Thanks for watching and I'm hoping for better days for ya.
They do have lockers, but it wasn't working on this skidder at the time and we didn't know that until we were hung up. We fixed that issue asap after we got it out. Thanks for watching and we hope you will subscribe and check out our other videos.
I drove a skidder and a loader plus hauling logs for 5 years when i got out of school , common sense has too come into play at some point 3 inchs of rain and go into a hardwood bottom like that not too smart ...
The property line was behind the tigercat and he also had a decent drag. Behind him. We didn’t think we had the room to go in that direction. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Next time, double shiv and pull out rather then through the hole. (Pull from the end you went in)don’t spin the wheels, only help with the throttle. When you spin, you just dig yourself in deeper..
Wasn't working that day. We didn't know about it until it was to late, we corrected that situation pretty quickly. Thanks for watching, we really appreciate it!
Classic North American quickmud!!! hahahaha! Almost lost a tractor in it trying to save a 4 wheeler, my girlfriend saved both with her Chevy 1500 Sierra LOL!!!!
Yep the diff lock wasn't working at the time, we didn't know until we were stuck. We decided to make it worse by digging a hole to china before asking for some help. Thanks for watching.
Yes, I'm really lacking in that area. Wish I knew more about it, but that was literally the first time I ever tried to use a pulley. Thanks for letting me know and thanks for watching. We hope you will check out some of our other videos and think about subscribing.
@@chadkemper outside hattiesburg ms and great videos thanks ...i use to haul logs but they didnt want to let me have brakes on my truck told me to just start stopping wayyyyy before i got there ....lol
They do, at least the modern ones. The differential wasn't working correctly on this skidder and of course we didn't know until it was to late. Thanks for watching!
That does have lockers, but until that moment we weren't aware ours weren't functional. We corrected that situation quickly after we got the machine out. Thanks for watching.
Hey thanks for watching, the diff lock didn't work at the time. Of course we didn't know that until he had already burried in a drain, that he wasn't supposed to be in to begin with. The diff lock was fixed pretty soon after. Appreciate you watching.
Thanks for watching Guy, only one wheel was spinning in the video because our diff lock wasn't working properly and we didn't know it until it was to late. We made sure to fix it as soon as we got it unstuck.
Yes, that would have been nice, but the property line was pretty much right behind him and he had a couple of pretty good poplars there also (I think). If I had to do it over again, I believe I would have gotten on the neighbor, but I try not to do that if I don't have to. Thanks for watching.
