I actually saw an ariel musical that was staged at a movie theatre, that was converted into theatre long ago, and they used ropes to make the main characters literally flying in mid-air and the whole stage whicj was square and big generally looked like a big aquarium.
Can we all appreciate the eel guys for a minute? They just have to rollerblade around and wiggle their arms and yet they put so much effort into it. 10/10 great performance.
This is a perfect actress for Ursula. Plus size and with an attitude, cause in the movie Ursula was a plus sized woman and she flaunted it like she didn’t care about her weight nor even cared if someone called fat, cause she knew what she had and showed it off like the queen she was.
@@thestrivinghero9536 Just Disney creating controversies so that they can bring attention to the movie for cash grab like they have done for so many of their live action Of course people would be upset. It's not even about the skin color. It's about the sentimental value. Changing something that the audience has love for a long is a bad move. I would rather they create a completely new princess instead so that she would be loved as she is and not as a stand in for something classic. Moana was succesful, so why not?

The embodiment of Ursula. As a true Ursula buff this womam potrayed her amazingly well. The movements, the cackle, the air of sophistication. What many people do in this role os turn Ursula comedic which is awful. You really brought to life Pat Carol. Excellent job.
When I first watched this I thought it was good but then I saw other people acting and singing as Ursula and I realize this isn’t just good... ITS AMAZING. This is the best interpretation of Ursula I’ve seen so far.
Eh, that just mean that it's amazing compared to other actors', not super amazing by itself. Kinda hard to bring cartoon to life though because of how expressive cartoon can be in facial expression and body language. I have never really seen anyone pull off Ursula's charm completely.
@kristinamorelli6945 Melissa gives a very FORCED, STUDIED performance as Ursula. She is not natural and spontaneous like Pat Carroll the first voice actress or Sherie Renee Scott the original Broadway actress. Melissa cannot handle more stylized material like this NATURALLY. She is only good at playing "real" "modern" roles. Hence there was a LOTTTT missing from her performance as you noted
5:30 - 5:35 Ugh, best part of the song. Those vocals and that instrumentation is phenomenal. I would pay hundreds to see this show just so I could hear that part.
i stand by the fact that disney shouldve casted broadway actors for the live action movies, not celebrities. they just bring such life and energy to the characters that youre not going to get otherwise.
I think probably best after the original. The thickness of the voice, the laughs, the intensity...that's what makes Ursula's character and she's got them all!!! Love it!

@@kimarasapp7186 The eels are on rollerblades but Ariel is on heelies. So is Sebastian at the beginning of the clip. That's why they have to get a bit of a running start first
This is the type of control over my voice I aspire to have. She has a good range of both high and low and can definitely choose what vibe she wants to give off with her singing.
@@l.r.m.8508 Hercules is Ariel's uncle ..coz Hercules is the son of Zeus ..while Triton (Ariel's father) is the son of Poseidon .. so Hercules is her uncle and both the 2 mighty olympian gods were her grandfathers .
Francesca just owned the stage with her Ursula. She got it all down to a T from the personality, the presence, the voice, the laugh and the sheer bombastic-ness of the character. She literally nailed it! Bravo!

The best live version I have heard of Ursula! I must have listened her rendition a hundred times. I lover her vocal control, wit and performance - Golden.
We did this musical at my school and our Ursula was actually very similar to this performance, we were very blessed to have her. She would move around, had sophistication, and her voice was super rich and deep
You see Ariel feels so bad and pressured at home with her own family that she found more comfort in dealing with a very suspicious banned person who lives in the depts of the ocean
Shes really good as Ursula. I always thought Ursula could be portrayed by someone with darker skin. like black with soul. Idk her heritage. just she did it amazingly well.
What??? But Ursula was modelled after a white drag queen, the voice actress was also an older white woman and that is exactly what the animated character looks and sounds like...it sounds like you might of coupled Ursula with a racist stereotype about bw because she's loud and plus size tbh
I do love this performance. I’m not crazy about the changes made for the stage version. I personally love the movie version of Ursula. I guess a meatier story was needed to put TLM on stage, but for me the movie was enough of a story. I really enjoy this actress as Ursula though. She really did kill it. I don’t understand really belting out “pathetic” at the beginning of the song. Isn’t that supposed to be more of an aside to Flotsam and Jetsam? Ursula sings it kind of under her breath in the film. It’s not really for Ariel to hear. It kind of undercuts the the line itself to really emphasize it so much, IMO. The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, and my favorite childhood movie, so if I saw this in its entirety I’d probably spend days picking it apart LOL. It really was fun to watch. I love these 2 ladies. Ursula was incredible! Definitely no Pat Carroll, but she did a really great job. The best live action Ursula I’ve seen. I enjoyed Ariel too. This looks like a fun show nonetheless.
Marilyn’s My Mother that "pathetic" really bugs me too! It is an aside in the movie; she's describing "poor, unfortunate souls", but doesn't consider them worthy of any mercy or help. Here she belts it out like she's adding another adjective to poor and unfortunate.
