What a treat. I purchased the Angel Delight album when it first came out, already a die-hard Fairport fan. My college pals thought we had discovered treasure out here in west USA. Great to hear Journeyman's Grace with Richard Thompson & Swarbrick especially. Always missed Sandy Denny's siren vocals though after their masterpiece album Liege & Lief.
What a band - the interplay of the instruments is fantastic. This version of Sloth is awesome. And RT playing on Journeyman's Grace! Thanks again to French TV.
Only wish this line up of FC had kept on. I love the songs that Thompson was writing at that point. Such rapport between them, Richard, Swarb, all of them. Powerhouse band.
Amazing depth of insight into British Rock music on French TV! For years there was a show called Rapido hosted by Antoine de Caunes, which was also excellent.
I saw Fairport last night for the first time in 44 years - in Bridgnorth. Began with Walk Awhile again! A great band half a century ago and a great band now, and all willing to have a friendly chat in the interval and afterwards.
@@michaeligoe3935 Beatles not quick witted? Might I suggest you take a look at one or two of the many press interviews they gave. Their wit was part of the magic. And that includes Ringo.

Blodwyn Pig - great! Thank you. Am sure the first song was part of Seasons, which was a Mick Abrahams Band song eventually. If I'm not wrong, all those bands have some connection with Jethro Tull.
I'm an American, and for years people have poked fun at me for pronouncing the word "Sloth" as "Slow-th" when they think it should rhyme with "cloth" (claw-th). After watching this, I have been vindicated! 🙂

@@davidstevenson18 , definitely not porcini/cep (known as the King Bolete in America). I just sat them on a piece of paper to take a spore print. I have several knowledgeable friend who can probably help me identify them correctly
This is the lineup I saw in 1970, the first time I ever saw Fairport Convention. Aside from Dave Swarbrick, the vocals were its weak link. If Richard Thompson or Simon Nichol were then the fine vocalists they are today... Anyway, great to see some quality video of this particular lineup. Richard would soon be leaving the band.
It seems odd to me that Abrahams left Tull because the music was veering from what he was interested in only to form Blodwyn Pig which sounds a lot like Tull music to me, only with violin instead of flute. I suspect there were ego issues as much as musical taste involved.
I met dave very lovely guy in fact there all lovely guys because halfway through a song I had a nose bleeding we came back in They all asked if I was okay I got a hug from ric sanders
Fantastic to see Fairport in action at this time in their lives. However just dreadful videography - always a hand or an elbow or the end of a guitar in the way of seeing somebody, too much time spent showing us their backs, and absolutely no camera on their instruments as they are playing the incredible music. Would have loved close-ups of Richard as he was playing Sloth. The cameramen were evidently not musicians.
