... I want to be a carefree child again... I want to play this game for hours and not think about the responsibilities that tomorrow will bring. Ahh... That time is long gone now, even though the music is as majestic as ever... :(
penguinrobotme Interesting to see how other people interpreted them. Most of them I heard pretty much the same as you, but to me everything ended in a vowel sound, e.g. Land Bridge was "TUSKATSU" or "TUSKATSUYA" and Hypnotise was "NOKTANA/LOKTANA". Flatten is a weird one, I heard something like "FLANIATU" or "FLADIATU". I loved shouting "ADATANKA/ARATANKA!!!!" while casting Volcano, twas my favourite. Good times. Going to play it again now just because it's the best game in the universe.
After playing it again I can hear DANIAT or DANIATU with flatten and land bridge has definitely got to be TUSKATSI. Haven't returned to the prison level, though. Too lazy.
Populous Master Bullfrog didn't make Starcraft or Command and Conquer. Starcraft was made by Blizzard and Command and Conquer was made by Westwood and later on EA
Wow takes me back to autumn and winter of 1998 in the golden age of PC gaming. I was 28 years old and now I’m 50 yrs old. Time goes quickly make every moment count my friends!
I'll be 27 in a few months, I always take a moment to appreciate everything I've experienced so far whenever I see comments like yours. Time does go quick, and if I'm honest I'm a bit scared that It's going too quickly. There's so much to see and do. I don't want to get to the end and regret not doing certain things. I've spent a lot of years gaming, maybe it's time to start putting the controller down more often and see new places. Still, this is a phenomenal soundtrack for a phenomenal game, bringing us back to a simpler time. Thanks again for your comment:)
don't forget dynamic music tracks. That was way ahead of its time too. E.g., a combat track would meld into the actual music track, instead of playing separate combat music
Lalo Oh dear! I can't remember the exact OST name, but it's the soundtrack with the flute. I personally associate it with arsuf (Altair's original location). But yeah, I don't know the OST Name.
Mark Knight Ahah so cool... awesome job, I've been in love with these tunes ever since I first listened to them. Incredible addition to the mood and feel of the game =)
Thanks so much. Was a completely new style for me to write in and I'm really happy with the results. The Pop3 music seems to have touched a lot of people in a positive way, which is great. Especially after so many years :)
I used to sometimes load the game on my computer, set it so the music played on pause, turn off the monitor, and listen to the music to sleep. It makes me think of lying on a hillside near sunset, a cool breeze playing, and staring up at clouds scudding across the sky, with my little village, a river, and a thick forest (tree tops edged with gold by the setting sun) lie below.
Love this soundtrack. As a child I used to play this game for hours. I'm forever grateful for my uncle who unwillingly introduced me to the universe of video games with that game. Now, I'm 26, I'm crippled with depression as I failed my first year as a trainee teacher in France. This song reminds me how beautiful my childhood was and how strongly I wish to return to it. This music connects my soul to the earth and I feel its power shaking the mere foundations of my spirit. Thank you Bullfrog for creating an amazing game, thank you Mark TDK Knight for letting a man torn by sorrows and regrets dream again.
@@MarkTDKKnight I never thought you'd reply to my comment. To get an answer from the one who created that masterpiece of a soundtrack for such an amazing game, thank you so much. Since then, my life went up. I became a full pledged teacher and I live with the one I love. It took a while but my efforts were worth it. Thank you for making us dream!
@@Grayef That's awesome! Congratulations on turning things around. Life is full of ups and downs, things never work out when you want them to, but they work out in the end (at least that's what I think) - keep smiling and be happy!! :)
It's so heartouchin'.. I'am still playing this game in LAN with my bro, never get bored, the musics, the style, this game is so unique, sigh ... I'am so proud to know a game like this :')
Everyone should know that this game is still far from dead. 100s of people still play it online everyday on the Populous Reincarnated Matchmaker which you can download for free on their website! "Populous: Reincarnated" also offers all kinds of downloads, from mappacks to modifications, for singleplayer and multiplayer , even map-editors and modding tools, just search for the website "Popre" or "Populous Reincarnated" in any browser/searchmachine and you will find it soon enough!
O GOD no let them not make a remake of populous. Electronic Farts will RUIN it the same way they did with dungeon keeper. Let them make a remake in a decade or so when there is no more economy thanks to global warming and "Microtransactions: the game" will no longer exist.
But.. If it was the same music, same everything, bar graphics (slightly enhanced) it'd be amazing. Others would feel this was desecration to the original.. Tough one to call
I would surround my village with watchtowers and fire men and destroy all land bridges in and out If the enemy shaman and her followers raised them again, I would cast poison reeds
No amount of fortnight, PUBG or other heartless games can match this. This game had a soul. We need more such as this one, AC II, Witcher, COD 4 (first modern warfare)... games with STORIES and great characters!
I listen to this track, and am still rather amazed how I came up with the idea. It's so not me really. Guess that's the job of a games composer, write in a style you're not familiar with, and make it good.
the greatest game of my childhood was Populous 3: the Beginning; the greatest game of my adolescence was (and still is) Demon's Souls; what does this make me?
This game has been in my heart since '99 and I always wished for a sequel. After EA bought bullfrog and seeing what Godus became, I believe less and less in a good remake being made by a big dev team. Since I gained interest in game design (even went to a GD school in Paris) I wished to one day remake Populous. However, now that I have started the project (still in planing stages), I'm always thorn between "just making a remake" and adding my own twist with new and interesting gameplay elements. The problem is that the more I get hyped and think of interesting concepts and ideas, the further it gets from Pop3. Now the question I would like other fans to help me with would be: Would you prefer a game with all new, different (hopefully interesting) mechanics but with the same feel of nature, tribe, wonder and magic, Or do you strictly want Populous 3 with a new skin?
I did play from dust and I really liked both the interesting mecanics and the art style but I felt it was a bit too puzzle orientated and it just made me want to play pop3 again :D edit: I did enjoy the game for what it was though, just the style strengthened my lust for a pop 3 remake ^^
oh maaan are you serious this would be amazing if you could make a new populous game . but im also thinking about your question its not that easy but as long as it keeps it main mechanics and most of all its feeling while playing it there can be of course new things added an d i think i would really like to support you in any way possible if its still a topic....
I'm a 8h/day 5days/week employee right now so I'm writing down ideas but it's basically stagnating as long as I stay in my current job (which I may not for long, have to pay the bills though). Honestly for now the 2 main issues are the round world (would have to Base the whole development process on it, cannot be "done later"), and the question between copypasting the game pretty much (to keep the weird high-lvl pvp bugs/features, but there is no game design document to be found for pop3 and I don't have the time to reverse engineer) and just doing something similar from guesswork
All I can remember is theme 3 while my niece’s father who was like my big brother at the time would play this, back when I was like 8 or 9 years old. I had no idea what he was doing in the game but I just remember watching and thinking he was conquering the world and the music hypnotized me. To this day this music just makes me feel a certain way. Those old school butterflies when things were simpler and you didn’t know how awesome the moment you were living in was. That’s all gone now but the memories of those moments last forever. It goes too fast. RIP to my brother Pito. He put me on to so many things when I was a kid.
Im shocked how this hasnt been picked up for a remake, as someone mentioned, had some great gameplay elements, somewhat voxel terrain, resource management, troop and spell management, killer music, plus it still having a competitive playerbase after all these years.
Apparently the interest in the God genre is at an all time low. Which is not super surprising, to be honest, as most people nowadays are not very patient and want games with faster action. Which is also why RTS, as a genre, is struggling (even though there are a few games like AoE2 DE and SC2 that keep it alive).
@@MarkTDKKnight that is amazing! Thank you ever so much for gifting the world with something so fantastic... the game would never been what it was without you! Music is such an important part of the whole experience... I cant believe that some people play without music or listening to playlists or even the tv... Were u a contractor or were you part of bullfrog? Have you made any other works of art in other games?
I remember playing the game after coming home from primary school - I struggled to finish the game but I loved every minute of it. That was like 20 years ago! damn I feel old.
I want the Stormlight Archive adaptation to have this sound, it's so otherworldly and would give a beautiful voice to Roshar. Picture it: Kaladin and Syl, facing Eshonai across the chasms! Yes/no, Cosmere fans?
Nothing will be quite as satisfying as casting a fireball at an enemy brave and seeing them fly across the screen only to roll down a steep hill or get tossed into the drink.
So I had a flashback of my older brother playing this on genesis. So I look up Populus and see this version. I click and watch some gameplay and hear the music. So I end up here and I love this shit.
