That’s because it acts as a DNA template for all Porsche models throughout a 10 year period. First 5 years is subtle integrations, last 5 years is accelerated changes (taycan). In 2025 Porsche will release a new hyper car.
Carrera GT, Porsche 918 spyder are timeless, donno how they do it, but Porsche knows how to design and engineer them this way! 918 still my dream car after all this time
That infotainment system is already noticeably outdated af tho. There's nothing anyone can do about that though. The technology simply moves too quickly. Not a big turn-off though...not the reason you buy a million dollar porsche anyway.
I prefer the 918 without the Weissach Package too, I think out of the current Hypercar Holy Trinity the 918 is the best looking, its really elegant. EDIT - WHAT. A. NOISE!
@Jake LaFerrari is the best bedroom poster if that makes sense, like the F40 or Lambo Countach in the 80s, but better looking? 🤔 Theres a legit argument for which of the Holy Trinity looks best
I have a real soft spot for the 918. It basically does everything you want in a car from the usable e-mode to the screaming V8 with top-mounted exhausts to the all wheel drive system to the targa top.
I see we have the usual dedicated McLaren lovers imagining, making stuff up again!?🤭😳😆 P1's actual performance against 918 was a joke, usually. Laferrari's, very busy looking. Some people like more classic and circular lines, than all those wedges and angles.
@@exnihilonihilfit6316 this beat the p1 around the ring, laguna seca and Anglesea.. 3 very different tracks...its widely excepted thta this was a faster car than the p1 until mcclaren tweeked the p1 and put sticky tyres on it..
Amazing car James and well done with bringing this rare spectacle to us. The 918 is indeed an amazing example of what Porsche has got going for the future. What a fantastic package.
Agreed, James. I’ve never loved the look of the 918, and now I understand why. Most examples have all of the fussy stripes and decals which detract from the overall shape and essence of the car. This particular example is stunning! The simple shade of gray really highlights the shape of the car. It lets the design speak for itself, and it really looks fantastic. Plus just a few tasteful splashes of color detail. By far the best-looking 918 I’ve seen.
Never get tired of your enthusiasm and uploads. However, speaking entirely honestly, I'm personally starting to get over the same-same soundtrack to these videos. Just IMO, I'm endlessly grateful for the uploads, please keep them coming. Thank you!
Great review again. So happy for you being able to properly enjoy and review these cars that at a young age must have seemed so far from reach. However, your persistence, a lot of behind the scenes hard work, a refined and unique palette and a maybe a dash of luck has earned you all these moments. Thank you for sharing and happy to support. Nice to see someone who truly is a car guy enjoy
Just watched the Grand tour first episode of season 3, incomparable.... mate you’re doing miracles, great content. I couldn’t stop comparing Jeremy’s intro of the Senna to yours, and now this no matter how many videos one watched about the 918, yours is just different. Thank you. I hope Mrs. JWW & Mr. JWW Leggero are doing well now. Congrats.
Best car ever! It ticks all the boxes for me: AWD, N/A engine, E-mode, removable roof, impeccable design. This is the perfect recipe for all future cars. Electric cars aren't the future, hybrid cars are!
Thank you so much James Got to love a 918 :-) They're such an amazing bit of kit indeed :-) Still not the same visceral car that the Carrera GT is, And if given the choice it would be the GT I'd choose :-) Thanks for bring us this :-) Thanks Mark
That thing is just blazingly fast after seeing this video... Had the chance to see a couple for myself the first time some yrs back in Boston, one of them belonging to a local car magnate and it was pure heaven after hearing it revving away.
My favorite Porsche and one of the best cars ever engineered . Ultra performance to me is more important then sound. Any car can sound good but mind bending performance that's alot rarer. Still the car sounds good too
James you look just right in a 918 Spyder! Its a car that fits your personality. Kinda feel the 918 Spyder never got the attention it deserved as everybody was raving about the LaFerrari's noise and emotion and the P1's Insanity. Great video! Btw nice Blue 918 Spyder with teh Weissach pack at Romans in Banstead atm!
100% think that’s most people eyeing up these sort of cars! Never gets easier spending money... or slower! 🤣 Mr JWW serious question, carrera GT or the 918 spyder? More immersive but less useable vs less immersive but more useable?
Will Satchwell Not really...if anything the LaFerrari got overlooked. The 918 definitely gets the credit it deserved, cheapest but fastest and most sophisticated of the bunch.
Love the idea you are looking at this car as a test bed as the future cars Porsche can do with its technology from 2012. We have advanced so fast that the customers are in for a treat since you can still get a thrill from a 2012 Hyer car. I'm sure a lot of your fans want a Porsche from the 911 GT family like myself...would they still be able to do one with a Manual still? Given a choice, will always go with the three pedals... suits my driving style and it makes you feel ALIVE.
The Holy trinity is still the trio I want. When the Project One, Valkyrie and Apollo IE are out that will be crazy to. To me I like the 918 Spyder and Laferrari more then the P1 for looks and that sound of the NA engines are what I want.
