The manual 981 GTS with sport plus on, you can turn off rev match by switching off traction control. All stock radios in GTS cars came with nine speakers standard over the four of base and S models. The Sport plus button has additional pop and crackles over the regular sport button or exhaust button. The Analog suspension sway bar is real nice in a PASM car if you want a more tail happy car similar to traditional 911’s, and really makes for incredible turn in. Car comes from factory with under steer in PASM. If getting a serious flat in a really remote area, position hole towards the 5 to 7 O clock range, put in sealant and let congeal for a few hours, then should hold at least 5 to 10 psi to get off mountain and or cell phone coverage. Ask me how I know. If driving in real hot temps and worried about oil temps, the sport plus button turns on third radiator. Finally, my experience is the Goodyear asymmetric’s F1’s that came with car are really grippy for about 3,500 miles then fall off pretty substantially whereas the Michelin sport 4S are good throughout life of tire but not quite as good as Goodyear’s fresh. Been through three sets of both tires.
What a great video. A couple of things: 1) if you dont have smoking package you won’t have that extra 3rd 12V adapter 2) if you want some wheelspin when you launch control squirt the rear tires with crisco oil and 3) if you put your naked bum on seats or release arse gas in the car you will damage the Alcántara .
I get Wheelspin in sports plus in the change from 1st to 2nd if I do a pedal to the metal gear change at full throttle opening that happens at 5200 revs. The throttle starts to close after that as part of the Porsche Boxster detune. The PDK is lightening quick in Sports Plus, it cracks you head back into the headrest..
I purchased a 2015 Cayman S with Sport Chrono a few weeks ago and just today happened to notice the "Launch Control" light on the PDK section of the steering wheel when the sun hit it properly! Thanks for letting me know how to activate it. ;)
Thanks. I have just bought myself a 981 Cayman S so these will come in handy. One option which I think I have found as a result is the Tyre Pressure Monitor which is under the units sub menu of settings. The double tap on the paddles to put the gear in neutral is also good to know.
Download the Good To Know App by Porsche. It is for people who are obviously too lazy to familiarise themselves with their car ;) There is a well produced ca 30 min video owner's manual, which can also be accessed as short, feature specific clips instead.
I have a 2014 Boxster (USA). I had to add the Smart Top aftermarket accessory kit to enable the remote control convertible top feature. It's one of my favorite mods. Very convenient.
@@poorman5314 search online for SmartFTP. There are installers all over the USA. Usually, they are car audio type guys. If you search on RU-vid for SmartFTP you'll see installers showing their work. I've heard you could install yourself.
Hi. Great video, I had my Cayman 9 months now and i didn't know 5 of this hidden features hehe. One thing i would LOVE is the last one, how do I program my rain sensor, how is it done?
@@inamhassan2694 My 981 is an european model and i found out that If you do not have: "P13 Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor" listed in your cars option list then, its not standard... Maybe USA version is different?
Hi, may I ask where I could get the Glass Wind Deflector with the Porsche LOGO on it? Found several but none of which have the LOGO and I did not see any from Porsche itself. Thanks.
Had a 981, 718 and now a 992..... still never used the launch mode, the 992 is only 5 weeks old, so need a few more miles. I really do need to try it. A dry night on the A1M Whitemare Pool perhaps. Porsche as many times as you like apparently, was using a 458 and was warned to restrict use, don't know how true it is?
The Sport Exhaust has three settings it injects more fuel into the exhaust in sports Plus than Sport. Its activated by releasing the throttle at any revs. The coast is only available in Auto Start/Stop mode. Launch can be done in any setting I've done them in normal. The engine is almost indestructible. I am constantly bouncing off the rev limiter driving in manual mode using the Techart flappy panels. The neutral function of pulling both gear change paddles is only available on the Sports Steering wheel. My car was run in by the dealer before I took delivery as I had them install the FabSpeed Sports Exhaust and Headers and then do a before and after dyne run on a Maha dyno. It's now 11 years old and I have never put oil in it or water. It has never required it. Over half of the kilometres have been done on the track at Sydney Motorsport Park. I have it serviced at the dealer every 12 months regardless of the usage. In all that time it had one warranty fix and that was a failed coil. It has had one factory recall done that all 981s require on the suspension. I had mine special built at the factory with more extras than I can list. Almost the same cost as the base car. It's Lime Gold with matching Agate Grey / Lime Gold interior with all leather addition options and deviated stiching. It has the the full wooden wheel and wooden trim as a memorial to my earlier sports cars. I had every bit of plastic both inside and out replaced with Carbon Fibre from DB Carbon in Germany. Every other bit like Steering Column, sun-visors and the ugly plastic panels for the seat side airbags have been done by Exclusive Options in the US In Agate Grey leather with Lime gold deviated stitching. It cost way more than a 991 but it's a much more spectacular car and faster round the track. i am taking this car to the grave with me. I can recommend the 981 to anyone interested in driving a Porsche Sports car.
I forgot to add the leather options all the way including the PCM even down to the Air Vent Slats that I had the dealer strip down the slats when I replaced the ugly silver ones with carbon fibre. Forgot to add also have digital TV fitted with a VIM module. Great for watching the stock market ABC news on the way into work. 🤣 I had the dealer do all my modification work. I have been a customer of theirs for 34 years.
Hmm, my 2014 Boxster S won't open the Top or Raise it with the keyfob! However,...I did find the 12V outlet in the armrest and the tire air compressor (...I also tested it to ensure it works).
@@alsatch_. As I was enjoying your video this morning the wife said, "I hope we can go to Tenerife this summer." Tenerife "I said?????. We're going to visit the Geordies!!!!!
Good video. Did not know about the gas cap holder or the yellow clip. I’ve tried the roof up/down with the key and it doesn’t work in North America. That feature was disabled for some reason.
Not sure about the UK versions, but US versions won't enter "Coast" mode when the Auto Start Stop function is disabled. I hate AS/S, but would really appreciate coast mode.
Is it possible to take away the other plastic covers from the frunk ? I don't want to try it in case I'm afraid I might break some connection points...
Only problem I’ve had with my lovely 981 Cayman since new, is the complete failure of the PCM, apparently it’s not not that rare a failure on 2014-2018 cars, not just Cayman/Boxster and £3k to fix if Porsche do it…………
I thought coast mode only worked automatically in normal mode and was disabled in sport and sport+. Didn't think it was a driver selected mode by changing up with no accelerator depressed. Didn't work automatically in normal mode with stop/start turned off.
Hey I have a question that I have trying, without success; to find the answer to. The question is this. ."What is the power gain (dyno numbers) achieved by upgraded exhaust, plenum and throttle body on a 987.1?". With all the guys doing these mods, I don't understand why I can't find anywhere, someone who has done the simple intake/exhaust mods and dynode the car. There are dozens and dozens of videos of guys performing these mods and not one of them.... not one of them has shared dyno numbers.... not one, not one... Even the ones that actually record the car on a dyno without any info given... just a video of a car on a dyno, for no apparent reason. Does anyone please have real world numbers one this????..........anyone.... anyone?
Hey Satch. I've been thinking about the 986 giveaway NONE-STOP! I really want to buy another 986 but sadly due to house renovation its just not possible. I've been following you for a very long time and been egerly waiting for the give away for so so long. I'm really happy to see the channel doing so well and can't wait for that 100k subscribers. Whoever wins the car will be an incredibly lucky person!! Thanks for providing content as always, love the videos!
Hi Sash, have you any advice about a Yellow Fault Message on a 9 year old 981 Boxster S with very low miles 14,000 which illuminates the right pod with Auto Driving Light Control Defective, it's working fine even with the message, it's PDSL and the lights both follow the bends with the Low Beam cut off correct for the UK with it being a bit higher on the LHS. I have had a New Drivers Side Headlight Module fitted under warranty and it's been fine for 2 months , 900 miles. I read a forum that suggested bad connections so I have ordered a can of Deoxit which is £20 to clean both headlight connections, it doesn't happen every day and neither light is faulty, the curtain that changes the bixenon from low to high works and cornering both lights turn so I am confused so my guess is slight corrosion on contacts but let me know if you know anything else please Cheers mike
#2 i thought the dealer tells the owner when they receive the car about this function #5... literally every owners know this i feel like 50% of "hidden" features in this video is just you trying to squeeze or find as many as you can lol any owners would have tried LC once, even if they dont have SC
Its high up there, great car, not sure I could bring myself to pay these prices though for a Boxster, even though the car is brilliant. I would be halfway towards a 991 gt3 for this money.
Probably a combination of the microphone being in the wrong place and it was pretty windy up there so didn’t sound great. Sounded great in the real world though 👌
