Porsche AC NOT WORKING. Replacing Blower Motor Cayenne DIY $100

Local Porsche dealer estimated $1500 to $2000 to fix my AC on my 2016 Porsche Cayenne GTS, I fixed it for $100.
this is how I replaced my blower motor when my AC was not working. I knew something was going wrong with my AC blower when it wouldn't blow as strong when on the max setting. then other times it wouldn't turn on right away some times taking 5 minutes before the blower would turn on. so before it total went I ordered an Aftermarket new blower motor for $95 and resistor for $30 not knowing the resistor was already included with the blower motor. after a few more weeks my blower motor completely stopped working and it was time to install the new parts.
Products used in this video
amzn.to/3C93E2W
amzn.to/3mKcYGo
if the other blower motor is still unavailable you could try this one amzn.to/43b6jnZ
just make sure you enter in your car year model to confirm it fits your specific vehicle.
removing the glove box is not necessary but is helpful if you want to see what you are working on.

Nice video. I did the same repair. Any one needing to do this repair should have an easy time following your clear instructions.

5.5mm, not 7/32 socket. Fantastic video, thank you for keeping it moving yet covering all the details- very well done.
@onesimpledad
@onesimpledad 11 месяцев назад
Yes your right 5.5mm ... I figured it had to be metric. I just grabbed a 7/32 out of my tool box and since its similar in size it worked but if you have a 5.5mm then thats the correct socket. I appreciate the feedback I always try to keep my videos short and straight to the point. Thanks for watching

@@onesimpledad I lost my 5.5 doing the job - must have fallen behind the carpet but I looked and looked. Finished the job with the 7/32, so thanks!

About to order one from your link. My wife’s 2016 Cayenne diesel fan motor was coming on sometimes but mostly not at all. On the rare occasion it does come on, it’s nice and cold. It’s getting hot here in Texas so momma needs a new blower. Hope this fixes the problem. Thanks for not making a 30 minute video blabbering about stuff we really don’t care about. To the point!

You're welcome... I try to keep all my videos short and straight to the point... thats how mine started sporadically working... so it started getting hot... so I ordered one knowing it was only a matter of time before the fan motor needed to be changed. So happy I did. Its been great

Great DIY video, very detailed! You saved me hundreds in repairs. In my case it was the connector for a flap control motor behind the blower that gets wet and the fault prevents the blower from running until it's cleared. Thank you!

I can confirm, you don’t need to remove the glove box. I was able to install without removing it. When you remove the screws near the passenger side where the hidden screws are located, take care not to drop them behind the plastic panel. When putting them back I put some tape on the screw and socket to keep the screw from falling off because it’s tight and hard to see the screw holes. Also I recommend changing out the cabin filter while your down there with the panel off, mine was pretty dirty and I had the new one already on hand. The results are amazing, hurricane wind blowing now, lol. Thanks for the video, very straight forward. God Bless

Also can confirm that its not necessary to remove the glove box. It was actually a quick job, a lot thanks to this video 👍😊 Love driving the car now after three years of annoying whining sounds from the fan 😎

"...and I noticed something else broke.." LOL I feel your pain, brother. I have a 2016 GTS as well, and I am baffled at what I have had fix since owning it. Especially because I have also own a 2004 Boxster S and have not had to repair one single thing. (Knock on wood) Excellent video and great instruction. I will be referencing it as I do my own blower motor replacement!

@onesimpledad 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for the positive feedback. I also owned a boxster but mine was a 1999 had it for 18 years and only had one issue. The airbag light. I've been amazed how many things have broke on the cayenne so far. The major thing is the leather dash started coming unglued. I want to tackle that project but can't justify the cost of the new dash right now but it would make an awesome video. Thanks again for watching

@onesimpledad
@onesimpledad 11 месяцев назад
@@russrydberg4872 really only way to fix it is replace the dash dealer wants $10k to do it. I can get a new dash from sunset porsche for around $5k ... it just a lot to spend on a cosmetic issue that should be covered by the dealer since it has happened to so many Porsche's

I'm from the UK and have a 2012 CD. Just wanted to say thanks for the blower motor and sunroof drain videos as it's made my life easier.. had the same issues here!! about to change the battery as I've just changed the alternator and its still not charging at idle... hopefully it sorts the issue.
@onesimpledad
@onesimpledad 3 месяца назад
You're welcome. Battery is a more common issue than the alternator. Good luck, and I hope you get it working . Thanks for watching
@Altitude7S
@Altitude7S 3 месяца назад
@@onesimpledad Battery swap was easy and the old one was definitely near the end of its life.. however still not charging at idle (charges fine whilst driving). I think my replacement alternator is defective or the pulley on it is too big and thus not spinning fast enough. With my previous alternator it didn't charge at all, at any speed so the new one has made a difference, just have the problem at idle. Thanks again

Fantastic video thank you Just want to ask in Australia the glove box ok left hand side So the fan moter which I need to order still the same ?
@onesimpledad
@onesimpledad 8 месяцев назад
Good question. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know the answer. It's probably best to buy the fan motor from parts department at a local Porsche dealer or from an aftermarket autoparts that sells parts for right-hand drive vehicles.

On a 2013 Cayenne Diesel, for the life of me I cannot locate the two lower “hidden” glove box screws! That portion of your video (which is great btw), is either out of focus, or your hands obscure the screw locations. Any hint on exactly where the lower screws are? I’ve spent hours looking for them!
@onesimpledad
@onesimpledad Месяц назад
They are small .... one at the bottom left and the other at the bottom right. They are really tucked in there. You will need a flash light to see them. But honestly, you can remove the fan motor without removing the glove box. I did it so I could see all the screws needed to be removed. Well I hope that helps. Thanks for watching

Make sure you keep clearing out your AC drain. The excess water seems to be quite detrimental to the blowers. You could also try cleaning the resistor. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching

Fantastic job can you tell me the part number and where to get the resistor
@onesimpledad
@onesimpledad 6 месяцев назад
Since all parts may vary from model year and trim.. always best to get part numbers from your local Porsche dealer. After you get the part number, you can easily search the web with the part number they gave you. But always best to change fan and resistor at the same time

Definitely don't need to remove the glovebox, one t20 one 5.5mm and took it out in 10 minutes, unfortunately in my case my blower motor spins but still no air from vents at all. Anyone had similar problems?
@onesimpledad
@onesimpledad 3 месяца назад
Yes, I found out later I didn't have to remove the glove box... I did it because I didn't know where my blower resistor was located... some are built in to the fan others are not. but for filming purposes and being able to see all the screw locations, it really helped. Either way works. Did you replace your blower resistor?
