The hose that connects to your gas meter is connected with a UNION Coupling and not a Quick Connect as you mentioned at 1'38". It would have served you better if you had a Quick Disconnect, kind of the one you use on an air compressor made of brass. Just FYI...
The big question is: what is the cost per hour or per 24 hours to operate with Natural Gas ? Or maybe a better way to ask is: how many cubic feet of gas is used by a 5 to 6 thousand watt generator per hour or per 24 hours ? Gasoline consumption for my 5,000 watt generator is 1 gallon per 3 hours or about a dollar an hour.
Why did you take the 1/2in feed at the gas tree and use a StreetL to increase it to 3/4in for your valves and 30' length of hose? Why not just keep it all 1/2in all the way? Also, why not use quick disconnects at the point of your union instead of the union and the need for a wrench etc?
you should install whats know as a drip leg on that gas line to catch water or other trash that could get into the gas line. look at the gas line just before it goes into you furnace and you will see one installed. its a vertical peace of gas pipe capped off. LP gas is really nasty stuff with much water in it. chews up LP gas furnaces and other appliances like gas grills. its not all hank hill says it is! natural gas not so bad. you don't want any trash or water in the line or it may cause a gas valve not to seat and then you got a gas leak.....not good. safety first!! if your house blowed up you want need any power!
The "quick connect" doesn't look very "quick"; it's a standard plumbing union. I use an industrial coupler commonly used for compressed air tools and an ordinary compressed air hose for temporary natural gas supply to portable equipment. If using natural gas after the regulator and meter, the pressure is very low, indeed - typically well below 0.5 psi - so high-pressure hose isn't needed. A good industrial coupler will be just as gas-tight as a plumbing union fitted with pipe dope or Teflon tape.
+Milosz Ostrow Are you saying this will work with some inexpensive couplers and some air tool hose? I think you may be right because this is using very low pressure. I think you would need the bigger hose for the generators with more than 7 horse. The air tool hose may work on smaller generators.
Yes. The quick connects and hose used for air tools works perfect on my 3.6KW generator. Also very inexpensive. I already had extra hose. Just bought some $4 end connectors from harbor freight and was good to go. The inner diameter of the hose I am using is only about 1/4 inch and may be too small for larger generator engines. Deucealive75 You are correct about the small hose limiting the flow rate. It wouldn't run a tankless water heater, but I've found it sufficient to run a two-burner tabletop stove or gas grill for outdoor cooking, saving myself the annoyance of smelling up the house with smoky, greasy fumes. Unfortunately, the high pressure natural gas supply is on the utility company's side of the gas meter, where one can't legally get to it. The pressure there is about 50 psi, which would still be well within the capability of air hose and industrial couplers.
Awesome! I have a brand new Generac 7000 electric start. Haven't used it yet but after running my two smaller Honda generators during the last hurricane power outage I wanted one larger generator so I could run my stuff one one generator instead of two. My house has gas service and the idea of not worrying about having to keep filling the gasoline tank much less the mad rush for gas at the gas station during the days leading up to a hurricane makes this natural gas conversion a MUST DO! Great video - my biggest problem is tapping into my gas line. It comes out of the ground has a 90° bend and goes into the exterior wall. I’m a very much do it yourselfer but not sure how I would get a T in there to tap in to the gas line. One question what happens if the generator cuts off how do you prevent the natural gas from continuing to flow resulting in a dangerous situation?

I don't think that would be a good idea - the smaller the Propane tank the quicker it will freeze ....In fact they suggest 100# tank for a generator in good weather....
btw, no need to cut the frame. all you need to do is move the motor back sufficiently to clear the frame. four new holes on the bottom mounting plates and you're done. this is especially practical if you only need to clear the frame by a small fraction, say like 1/8 or 1/4 inch.
I converted a B&D from Home Depot and it started and ran better than it did on the E10 blend we have here in Fhonyfornia. ALWAYS starts on the 2nd pull unlike gasoline.

I'm just entering the game...but my question is why is everyone cutting their frame when they can just mount the regulator to the other end of the gas supply hose which is likely the gas meter or a wall that has the supply connection.
silly question. If I purchased a duel fuel gasoline/propane generator......number one.....could I simply hook it up to natural gas? Probably not?? and second question.....If I cant simply hook up natural gas to a propane generator, would I be a little bit ahead if I purchased a duel fuel and then purchase the natural gas kit for it. The space would already be there to put a natural gas regulator without adapting the frame etc.?/
Just a note to all - I have the same conversion kit I put on a ridgid - Works perfect, smooth - However I made a mistake by not securing the air filter box back to the frame - the original holes to meet up anymore - This resulted in the bolts cracking of the block and the carb was basically hanging - other than that - worked like a dream....
Never use GALVANIZED pipe or pipe fittings in a Natural gas application. The Natural gas reacts with the galvanization and causes a heavy, gummy residue to develop that will clog up everything. ALSO: this conversion can only be used on a "gasoline only", 4 cycle engine. 2 cycle "gasoline mixed with oil" engines won't receive proper upper cylinder and valve lubrication resulting in engine damage and failure.

Is there a kit out there where you do not have to saw off the frame? Seems to me with all the vibrations, that cutting the frame is not the best idea to make it fit

Nice video. I did the same conversation with my Black Max 7,000 watt generator. The US carburetor kit worked great. One thing the instructions say is to empty the gasoline for safety. I drained it into a container and added the gas to my riding lawnmower, then removed the tank to completely drain it and let it air out. I just need to figure out how to adjust the idle. It’s running high rpms.
You're right web page was hard to figure out how to use LOL but how much was the Kit the complete kit with piece that goes behind the carburetor and I have to get the lines from somewhere else? What happens if the engine stalls and the gas continues to flow? I have the same conversion kit on my generac and I often wonder if the oil runs low or somthing the engine will shut down but the ng valve remains open. Does that gas keep flowing until it explodes?

I got a 13 horsepower motor what kit do I get you said get the kit C for the motor you got which is a lower motor but when I was on the page link that you posted for the tri fuel regulator it said something about larger Motors using type 1 or type 2 I'm confused which one do I get I want to be able to use gasoline as well as well as natural gas and propane all three feels
Understood- however I am curious about "what would happen"? Because this same condition could occur if someone was running on gasoline, then turned the generator off with cutoff switch. Even if the gasoline valve was then closed there would still be fuel in the line from valve to the carb. Its a situation that I will avoid, but thought you might know what effects this condition would cause.

Contact him through eBay and he will guide you in the right direction and custom make something for you. I did not not any drop in HP and I tried a real worl test on it and it powered everything it did prior to the conversion. BTW when you go to start it with the long hose I had to hold the primer about 15-20secs.

Where did you purchase the brass "T" at the outlet (top) of the regulator? The one that adjusts flow on one side and has the hose adapter on the other side. I can't find it on US Carburetion website or anywhere for that matter. It looks like it makes for a practical and clean setup.

Have you used it during an emergency and have you seen an huge increase in you gas bill? I like in florida and see too many hurricanes. Lost power for a few days and looking to not hunt for gasoline and I have natural gas piped to the house. Thanks
You won't notice any change in the gas bill. I have run it 24 hours during the summer when power was out and. My summer gas usage is usually zero and it was barely noticeable. These things don't use a lot of natural gas and it will cost less to run natural gas than gasoline especially during a natural disaster..
I see what you are saying and I would avoid that at all cost. Insted of an air gas mix you would have an LP gas mix. It may only flood the generator but if air makes it in I guess it could go boom. I would always cut it off at the valve of whatever fuel you are using. Mabe a safe guard it to change the cutoff switch to one with a flip up cover to help remind you.
Let me see if I understood what you are saying. Most propane generators don't have a propane shut off valve that will shut the gas off, if the generator fails to stay running, and because you bypassed installing a regulator this will amplify that problem, if true I will need to get a 110 volt shut off valve, that's held open with voltage.
If you have nothing in line to stop the gas flow if the generator stops you absolutely need something, unless you like to be on the local news ruining a bunch of people's days.
@@Channel-About-Nothing How does a generator work that comes ready to use propane, should the spark plug fail, how is the gas turned off. From the information I have found says the regulator doesn't stop the flow of gas should the generator fail.
@@rx7engines I don't think that is correct or they are asking for a lawsuit. The gas is usually controlled by the vacuum of the engine. If there is no vacuum the gas is cut off.
The regulator you see is called a demand regulator, it requires negative pressure for it to open and allow gas to flow. Pressure the carb will create when running. This is a great video. Good job. I am going to convert my chonda but will be using a 100lb bottle. Thanks
Rated for Natural Gas use no it is not, and there is no need to pay extra just for the stamp. This hose is a Nitrile Butadiene Rubber or NBR which is the same material used for NG gaskets and hoses. This hose is an overkill for NG. It is actually for gasoline and diesel fuel and can withstand more pressure and is more crush resistant than most hoses marketed for NG but is 1/4 the price. Plus this is a back-up emergency set up for temporary use.
really should be a plumber if you guys are tapping into your gaslines ,propane . but with that being said always favor larger hose and full port valves. that means what it says the valve its self doent choke down the size of the hose your going with. also if you have appliance down line you depend on. (tankless water.or furnace . it could affect. . maybe not these smaller standbys but watch it as you go bigger. more so with the natural gas but it happens,propane u can boost it up more.
I took the adopter off and reseated it to get a better seal on gaskets. This improved performance. I wanted to make sure it still works on gasoline before I committed to natural gas.

Again great job-just installed my Transfer box and it works great,with my powermate generator with the Chonda 13hp engine.My carburator looks like yours.Gonna order the type C and the hose you ordered,can you give me the part or model # of the hose from rwhose,it will be way safe for the limited time i will use it.One more thing any noticeable HP drop in engine.Thanks again ,,and I will also be cutting the post next to air breather box like you did.
The motor has it's own governor and my generator does not have a throttle. So really you only control the air fuel mix with the valve just above the regulator.
What happens if the generator stops on it's own ??? There is nobody to shut off the Natural gas. Won't the gas keep flowing out of the air filter and explode sooner or later???

Nice video Are you still running that same supply hose? According to rwhose that is not rated for natural gas but im not really sure what could be the problem. If its rated for 500psi and im only running 1/2 pound after the ng meter what could be the problem? any thougths? O

I have this same converter for my yamaha ef2400is. can someone please tell me how to adjust the load block? i started messing with it while it was idling at around 3700 r/min and thought i could adjust it down to 3200. now it won't start. i'm not sure where to begin or how t to get it running again (i'm a generator novice). perhaps i turned the screw the wrong way or too much or too fast or all of the above. i tried to adjust it back to where i thought it was before i began messing with it. can't find any instruction on how to start this adjustment from scratch. HELP!! there's a blizzard headed our way and power company is warning about power outages. i need my generator to work!!

Good job on conversion,,,but you may want to check the hose your using for the fuel line from the gas meter . I am sure its not rated for LP or NAT gas.
