Think you so much for your video!! I live in Texas and last year we had that horrible freeze that lasted 7-9 days below freezing with no electricity. I was the only house on our street that had a generator. I own the Preditor 8750 generator and it handled my all electric home with no problem. Only thing was it went through a lot of gas and all the gas stations close to me also had no power to turn the gas pumps on. We had stored enough gas to last us all but one day so we were one of the lucky ones. I bought the same carburetor you just demonstrated in case a freeze happened again and the gas pumps freeze again I have the choice of propane if needed. They had plenty of propane tanks available that week and this duel fuel carburetor would have helped alot. I have the carburetor but was dreading putting it on because I didn't know if the propane part needed special adjusting and I didn't want to messed it up. Now that I have seen your video I have full confidence I can do it.👌👍

Thanks for the video. I just got my carb in (exactly like yours) and was glad to be able to see an installation. The instructions are poor at best. I ordered mine from V Power Equipment. They have different carbs depending on the size of your generator. They do cost more but come with a properly sized propane regulator and gaskets.

Again, Great video! Now for the bad news. It does not fit the new model generator. The latest model Predator 9000 has a different air box. The inlet is in a bad spot. I had to loosen the bracket that goes to the new carburetor and leave it dangling so I could rout the air inlet behind it. I still made it work but my carb inlet is dangling so I will have to strap it up with a zip tie or something.

Here is a reminder about portable generator safety: This advice is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generators. Everyone has to see this safety reminder for safety. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. Great job with the detailed instructions. I just ordered the same unit off Amazon to install on my HF Predator 8750. I hope it won’t require the modification of the air filter that many of the reviews mention. Also, I’m sure you’ve figured out that when using LP like you were, when you shut off the engine with the kill switch the way you did you aren’t actually shutting off the propane from the tank. Just an observation that you might make sure you consider for safety reasons. 👌 Again, great video.

Hey Soat Mon, I completed my conversion today but had to do some modifications to the air intake box. I actually have a 2020 model 8750 and Predator switched the location of the air intake hose. The air intake box is actually entirely different than the one on your 9000. The fuel tank air hose is on the side of the 9000 but on the back of my 8750. Long story short I found another video thankfully that actually addressed a work around. Not a huge deal breaker and we are in business! 👌

@@mintytoo if you have the 9000 I believe you will be able to complete the conversion without the modification. I have the 8750 and it required the work around. Don’t fret it either way though. I just finished my installation of the Propane Kit you used on my Predator 9000 and I run into a problem with the gas tank vent to the airbox interfering with the carb regulator. My airbox is plastic and I figure it is different from your metal air box, Instead of sending it back and taking a chance on another one not working I decided to modify the plastic box so it no longer interfered with the regulator. I will fiberglass the part I removed and paint it and it will look like the original. The generator started right up and seemed to run just fine. I wonder if the kit will support the Predator 9000 at 100% but right now it starts and runs great, thanks for your video.

Dude because of you I was able to do this flawlessly. I haven’t been able to run it because I don’t have a line yet but I do have a couple questions. 1. When using propane do you still open the gas valve? Do you still turn the choke handle at all or is the prime button/valve you’re pressing act as the choke/prime for propane? 2. If I prefer to use gas does that propane nipple have to be covered/sealed? When you disconnect your propane and run gasoline what do you do with the open propane nipple on there? I don’t really understand carburetors but I’ve got the gas company coming out tomorrow to put a propane hookup at the regulator coming into my home so I have the option to run propane from our 1000 gallon tank instead of gas just want to understand how to toggle back and forth with both applications. Thank you again for such a great guide!

You shouldn't need the chock on propane. I would cover the nipple when not in use to keep out dirt, bugs etc. Good luck with your install!

Nice video. I purchased the exact same generator in January. I purchased the same carburetor as well to run on ng. My only issue is it appears that the air filter box has been modified since you posted this video. The vent line for the gas tank comes into the back of the filter box instead of the side like on yours. Well, this prevents the air filter box from going back on as the regulator on the carburetor is right where the vent comes into the box. I think I will drill a hole in the side of the box for this vent line and hopefully that will allow the box to go on as it should

1:40 That is so that you can drain the gas from the float bowl. 8:08 That is the purge button. If you shut off the propane feed then you have to purge the air after turning on the propane. If you do not turn off the propane supply then you don't have to purge. Think about it. The permanent generators, like Generac that are propane-fueled, don't need to be purged because the propane is always on.

It is a nice idea to run on propane but the tank low pressure gauge needs changed to a water manometer for $10. 11” of H2O is 0.4 PSI. Get a good bourdon tube type gauge, PTFE thread sealant or teflon tape if you like that stuff (I never used it) then make accurate adjustments. Push the button is purging air from tank to carb to allow it to run. Running on natural gas is a little more tricky with size, load, speed, require adjustments unless the speed and load are consistent. ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired

The primary regulator coming off the tank should be set to 11 inches of water column and be able to handle at least 80,000 BTUs or more depending on the wattage size of the generator. Also curious if you are able to adjust the air fuel mixture at the carburetor? This a HIPA carb? If these are preset then I would be concerned about the engine not having the proper mix. Running to Rich on propane makes the engine run hotter. It's the opposite of liquid gasoline which if you burn rich the engine runs cooler, and lean is hotter.

The electrical wire on the bottom of the float bowl is to stop the gasoline from entering the engine after the engine has been turned off. It is not technically needed on propane or natural gas. The tubing with the spring on the outside goes to the float bowl to drain the gasoline when changing over from gasoline to propane or natural gas. At 0:03 I believe is the mixture screw for smooth running. It is in front of his index finger.

CNG is Compressed Natural Gas which is not the utility being fed to your house thru a gas line. This is the pressurized version they use in some city buses and truck fleets. You can get a carburetor for household natural gas, but it is not the one shown in this video !

I bought the carb listed in your description, and I have the same generator. The installation went fine, and the generator runs fine on the gasoline side, but when I turn on the propane it leaks from somewhere in the carburetor. It's not a slow leak either, it sounds like I forgot to put something in place, but everything looks OK.

Not sure what that could be, it sounds like something is stuck open. Maybe you got a defective one? Hope it works out for you.

it could also be the regulator valve you use on the tank. The first time i did one of these conversions the generator wouldn't stay/start running and it seemed like gas was leaking. I found an adjustable regulator and set it pretty low it started and ran great and didn't leak. These do not need much gas pressure to function(and in my case too much was preventing it from running properly)

No this carburetor will use propane/natural gas or gasoline that is what it means by dual fuel. You just turn a valve to choose which one. It's confusing because it says dual fuel and then talks about LPG and CNG but they are counting those two as one option and gasoline as the other. I have used it on gasoline and propane but have not used it on natural gas. Hope that helps!

I don't really know to be honest. I saw multiple people suggest it and it makes since as gasoline has some lubrication in it and I figured that may help the piston seat better and since it comes set up for gas I figured why not break it in that way. Good luck with your generator.

Soat Mon, Thanks for this video. I noticed the carb in the Amazon link says it's for an Output: 4.5-5.5KW generator. That's only half the output of the 9000. Have you had any issues with your generator not running correctly? Did the 1 lb of pressure seem sufficient? Can a motor be run too lean on propane and cause damage? I had a propane line run from my large propane tank for a Generac whole house generator but I've read some bad reviews and it's way more expensive! The 9000 is on sale now so I'm going to pull the trigger. I had no idea that I could find a conversion to LP for the Predator, especially so cheap. Thanks again.

Yeah I was worried about the size of the carb as well but as I read the reviews on it others had used it for the 8750 generator so I gave it a try. Works great, as I said in the video I think it's the exact same carb with a propane jet. I don't know of any damage that a lack of propane would cause, just low power if you are not delivering enough but I have not had that issue. Good luck on yours, I hope it works well for you!

* I bought a variable presure regulator and run it less than one pound. Once the engine is running the regulator can be adjusted -- if too lean or rich the motor runs rough. * There is a valve at the bottom of the regulator to drain the GASOLINE float bowl. GREAT as GAS gums and corrodes the carburetor, and I will NEVER run gasoline again. * LP gas BURNS CLEAN, combusts with a little less force, so the engine should last MUCH LONGER.

How do you adjust th mixing screws with this carb? I'm running natural gas and it only runs when half choked. It cuts off when choke is completely off. Also, what does the on/off value do on this carb. On mine, it doesn't do anything that I can tell.

Sorry I don't know how to adjust it. I think the valve turns off the gasoline.

I’m having a problem installing this carburetor in my California Predator 9000. The part above where the fuel gas line connects is interfering with the airbox so it’s causing the bottom to kick out from where it’s supposed to be. Anybody else have this problem and suggest an alternate airbox to resolve the conflict?

I am a little confused about the switch on the carb. The switch on my carb.is on the right side and I can see the left side of the carb.is LPG so the Right side is for Gas and Propane??

LPG is the same as propane.

I put a similar kit on my champion 3500/4000 generator. The on/off valve on the diaphragm confuses me. I’m not sure what it does.. do you know? I didn’t get any directions.
@allenmoore5211
@allenmoore5211 3 года назад
After you shut off the fuel you can drain the carburetor with that valve in the on position and then put it back to off to run propane.

Here is a reminder about portable generator safety: everyone really needs to see this safety reminder to make sure. This advice is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generators. Generators can be dangerous if not used carefully. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the safety rules. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. Is that an aftermarket air cleaner? I bought a dual fuel carb for our predator 9000 and the air cleaner doesn't fit after installing the dual fuel carb, the air cleaner is plastic and the vent nipple is out the back hitting the gas regulator on carb

Best way to go right there if you’re running on natural gas and/or propane your neighbors ain’t gonna come over and try and borrow gas off of you for their generator during a power outage you can simply tell them I don’t keep gasoline around here cause I don’t run my generator on it. Also one thing I have found we had a power outage in my area some years back that lasted a little over three weeks and you may not be able to afford gasoline every day even if you turn it off for a little while for three weeks straight it will cost you a small fortune another thing I ran into during the outage was at first I drove around the gas stations to get more gas because I only had what was in the generator and I think maybe a gallon or two extra and none of the gas stations in my area could sell gas because the power was out. I had to drive for quite a ways to find some,,,that was not convenient at all,,,,propane last a long time you can buy those 100 pound cylinders and have it set up that way,,,,however you may be better off just a running natural gas,,,your power will be reduced a little bit on propane and natural gas but with a generator that size I believe you’d still be OK.
@SoatMon
@SoatMon 4 года назад
I hadn't thought about the difficulty of actually getting gas from a station to fill it but now that you point it out, that could be a real problem if the outage was wide spread. Thanks for adding your experience.

I got funky stuff when I clicked the link too. The first time, it showed an entirely different carb. The second time, it shows a carb that looks identical, but it says it is for a smaller generator.

I've got the newer style Predator 9000 with the plastic air box. It's more angled towards the frame rail. It's much thicker/deeper than the metal one and, again, it's not pointed out towards the front of the motor, it's facing the frame rail. So, when I put the big ol thick adapter on the carburetor, it made it near impossible to to get the back of the air box back onto the carb bolts. I had to unbolt 3 of the engine mounts and lift the engine straight up, with a crowbar, to get the back portion of the air box back on the bolts. The crowbar slipped once while I was trying to get a motor mount worked loose and the motor came down on my finger. Laid it wide open. But, I finally got it reinstalled and the motor mounted again. But, there is no way possible the plastic front cover of that air box is going on there again. The back of the box is a ¼" from the frame rail. So, the factory air filter is back in, with a zip tie holding it in place. Best I can do without cutting the frame, which is never gonna happen.

@@mikejoyce7157 My kit is different than this one. I have the OEM carburetor on the machine, but my kit came with a billet aluminum shim, to place between the carb air intake and the air cleaner box, thick enough to house a threaded, 90° nipple the natural gas flows thru. So yeah, it's different than this one. I was just so excited to finally get it installed and running that I commented on the first video I could find.
