Most random UCL final ever.. But well deserved for Porto.. They were beastn that year... Monaco was also no push over.. They made a great run until the finals..
This still remains to this day, the last time a team outside of Europe's Big Five won the Champions League. I really wish we could have fairy tales like this happen in the sport again.
Its the same that saying Man city is better than United just because their Champions now , don't compare our history with Porto we have 2 Champions too
Would be to much that Portugal won both major titles in club and national team that year. And for Greece the major title in European football and basketball and hosting their Olympic games... Oh wait.
@Hugh Mungus Not really, Ranieri's Chelsea beat Arsenal invincibles in Champions League quarter finals and finished 2nd in the Premier League. Hardly a disaster.
How could Deco finish 2nd below Schevchenko at the Ballon d'Or ? Such a masterclass player ! And what a team we had in those years with Mou. PORTOOOOOOOOOOO
Schevchenko was a monster too. I am Italian and an AS Roma fan...still I can tell you that watching Schevchenko playing was a privilege for me. Anyway, both of them were two of the greatest players ever for their countries
That year, the Champions League semifinalists were Chelsea (who was just at the beginning of their cycle, before the two Premiership titles), Deportivo La Coruna (who had won La Liga a few years earlier, but who wasn't one of the top contenders of the trophy), Porto and Monaco (representing two countries who don't exactly make it this far internationally as often as English or Spanish teams). It was amazing to see something like this, and it would be amazing to see it happening again.
@@dinterful there have been times where I've seen someone criticise and belittle Porto's 2004 run because of who were the semi-finalists that year, but imagine having to face a team that *just defeated AC Milan 4-0* (and mind you, an AC Milan that had won the previous year, and whose starting 11 had 11 World Class players) and coming out victorious
Will be a long time before they will again. Porto from 2000-2012ish was a decent side, able to compete with any European team in the CL. Today they just don't have the same quality
@@phubesjangsrisert3193 That's not true. He didn't celebrate because a Porto fan wanted to kill him after Mourinho had an affair with his wife. The fan said he would kill Mourinho as soon as he would arrive in Portugal. That's why he did not came back to Portugal after this game.
Boys and girls this might be last time you see champion league champion outside top 5 league in history or your lifetime This may happen again if a club gets bought it billionaire or goat like manger. Or Ajax actually keep there young talent
Respect! Respect! Respect! to this genius MasterMind Coach even though he was sacked ( _left by him self after taking a hard decision over Super league_ ) by Tottenham
You obviously look back at it now and see the great players they had but back then the those players were not the players you would say great today, most of that squad were not among Europe’s talented players, the work was mainly done to how Jose mourinho installed a winning mentality into that group and tactically adapted that squad

@@zarithceeeraf2749 ahahah u are a benfica fan 100% people dont care about internarional trophies of course cause realmadrid is the best team ever because they have la liga trophies right? Not because they have 13 chsmpions and so one.. shut up kid
Back when the UCL was interesting. Today it's always the same teams that get to the fina rounds. There should be a cap system that forbids clubs to have so many world class players.
It's not impossible to control, just say "you can only spend this much on salaries" the best players will obviously demand higher payment so a club cant have to many of them.
@randomm User1237589 obviously Porto, Benfica only beats us in national titles(6 more than porto) And thats because of Portuguese old Dictator, Salazar that controles football in the time.(hes from lisbon)
2004 was just mind-blowing for Football fans Underdogs sides in UCL and Euro Final 🤯 and all out Portuguese Domination only if Greek didn't had luck that could have been the best year of Portuguese football history
Pep couldn't win it with a 1bn£ squad, while Jose all it required was Porto. This is why Prime Mourinho is the best manager that the world has ever seen.
You score the opening goal in a UCL final, it's still the first half of the game...and you're getting booked for taking your shirt off!😂😂😂 Makes sense that Mourinho substituted Alberto, in the second half.
That porto team did have some serious quality the midfield of deco maniche costinha mendes pretty much Portugal national midfield at the time if there was a weakness it was with the calibre of strikers give credit for mourinho to get the most out of derlie and alberto.
If Mourinho manage to win the UCL with Porto with their 80% of homegrown portuguese player, I wonder what could have been if Mourinho just accepted the offer to coaching the Portugal team in his prime managing day. Maybe the Portugal including CR7 could have win a World cup by now? I personally think Mourinho is the best portuguese manager that Portugal nation never sign with and I feel like Portugal nation team would regret the same situation as England that never signed their best English manager like Brian Clough, period
Deportivo won the La Liga in 2000 and Leeds United was the third that year. They reached the quarter final in 2001 and played against each other. In 2019 Both teams are in the second division of their country.
Idk why people call Jose Mourihno a bad manager. The only unsuccessful campaign he’s been in was at Tottenham. Even when he was at United he won the Europa League and League Cup in his first season with them. He’s proven to be successful with countless teams, regardless of tenure and prestige, and has won UCL’s with these teams. Take Inter in 2010 for example, no one thought they would beat Bayern but they did. And also this Porto team.
3 goal rubati a Monacò , forse Me des cominciava l'arrampicata ?
I titoli di coda secondo me. Rivedendo le partite di Psg e City, mi aspettavo delle partite da regalare alla storia visti i soldi investiti e i giocatori in campo...spero che il calcio ritorni a dare a squadre che hanno un sogno, di poter raggiungere il trofeo più ambito.
