Is positive reinforcement dog training the best way to train your dog? Is clicker training the same thing as positive reinforcement? If you wonder about the facts on using treats to train your dog and the best way to build a solid relationship in dog training, watch this video. In this lecture I address the questions, the problems and the solutions that people face when training their dogs. Positive based dog training and balanced dog training is the best way to train your dog no matter what your goals are. If you wonder if you should use toys or treats, which would give you a better result, that is also answered in this video.

I just wanted to say a Big Thank You for your instructional videos!! I recently got a GSD puppy and your videos have been the best I've seen in helping me bonding with my puppy and progressing with his education. Keep up to great work!!

Awesome video about using treats. The only thing I would add is that to always pick the healthiest treat they like. Even in small amounts treats do add up. I am guilty not doing this myself to be honest, but that is due to me not having the funds to always buy the best. So I make do with what I can get, but if you do use more fatty treats try to offset that with some extra exercise.

Love the distinction between toy rewards and food rewards. I'd never really thought about toys in terms of being a disconnect, only the amount of time between reps. Excellent presentation. Thanks !

Hi Robert! I sent the following message to one of your other videos. You answered it here. Here is what I said: You have amazing training techniques. In addition to training with a local obedience school and my daily training reinforcements, your methods have helped tremendously. I have a 6 month old male (intact) Cane Corso. He has been with me since 8 wks of age. He is eager to learn and I love that about him. I LOVE the long lead method. It allows him to roam and when I step on it, it gets his attention back on me. Please share what treat that you use. I use mozzarella cheese sticks at the moment. I have turkey links that I haven't introduced him to. Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge. It has helped a great deal! Show less

mzfit4u Just wanted to pass along some advice that garlic and spices and whatnot are toxic to dogs! Be careful with Turkey links ingredients if they aren’t specially formulated for dogs! :) All the best to your corso!

Finally! I've pulled my almost grown puppy off of stimulus, I said come twice and he came both times as he was preoccupied with another event, (playing with his kennel mates). However I did not have a treat so I just praised him. What if I don't give a treat every time, will he get tired of me "crying wolf?" He is very food driven.

Reward every time for recalls. Using a variable schedule and mixing up different treats as you go. Only think about fading after 18 months or more. If you can't reward, don't recall.

Hey Robert, we’re getting a pup in a few months and I’d love to know how long we should be hand-feeding her main meals (not treats) for the day? 2 weeks? A month? Half a year? Cheers and keep up the brilliant work you do on your channel. :)

What do you do when your dog stares constantly at approaching dogs? Turn 180? It seems this behavior will never stop. Is this aggression?

Dogs were developed over centuries to do a job, especially the big breeds (GSD, Rottie, Kangal, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Labrador). 'A hungry dog is a trainable dog' is an old gun-dog owner saying in east Tennessee. Dogs will eat their daily ration as rewards for obedience commands. Spoiling a dog is counter-productive.

Another great video. I'm trying to retrain my dog(6lb terrier) how would you recommend training a heel(stand to one side) with a dog this size since I have to lean down to give the treat. 🐕💕

Same as any other dog. I have to lean down for labs as well.

My dog is very food driven. Im finally getting him to look back at me instead of barking and lunging at cars, but after he gets the treat he goes right back to going bizzerk on the cars. Also, I'm heading to CA. For disaster relief, are you back yet?
