Do something good for yourself every day, don’t complain too much, don’t criticize others or judge, observe and stay neutral always. Stay active, walk, read deeply, eat clean… Practice, practice, practice it daily.
Never got into it except when i went to the pen , i saw a small paragraph about the power of positive thinking. So i tried it. It was hard because all my thoughts were negative from abuse. Even tho i didnt believe it, i still said something positive. It helped me. Thats all i did...was say something positive after saying something negative . I made it a habbit. It DID make a difference
Thank you. The whole "positive thinking" trope has been a thorn in my side for years. I've thought for a long time that accuracy is often sacrificed for "positive thinking", which at that point it becomes a practice that reinforces a delusion. Accurate thinking with a positive spin is a much more constructive approach. ❤
Even some dose of anger can be constructive. When someone crticize you, you can rebuild it to energy for the change to show that he/she will be wrong when you will be better person.
@@EughhBrothereughh It is accepting your current reality while at the same time realizing and focusing on the potential for the situation to change and improve as a result of your efforts to change what you can about the way you think about it.
Last night I spilled salt all over the stove and the kitchen floor when I knocked the container over. Then I just calmly cleaned it up. As I was thinking about it this morning, I realized that that was a minor miracle. Instead of castigating myself and deciding I was a terrible person or asking God why I'm "so stupid" like I used to do, I just cleaned it up because silly, inconvenient things happen at times. 🙂 P.S. I now know that I'm not stupid.
Recently my husband dropped olive oil after taking it down from a shelf. It shattered and the oil went everywhere. It also caused our glass spoon rest to fall and break. He was beating himself up over it. In the past I have gotten upset over myself or my husband breaking something, spilling something, ect. This time I calmly helped him clean it up while reassuring him that it was ok and that I was just glad he didn’t get cut by the glass.
@@courtneyfink5880 It’s good to treat children this way too because they internalize criticism and it replays in their minds. If they break a glass instead of telling them to be more careful first tell them not to move or they’ll get cut and tell them you don’t want that.
Positive affirmations should help to have a HEALTHY self esteem. Not HIGH not LOW, but OBJECTIVE. So "HIGH" positive affirmations like "I'm great, I'm rich, I'm prosper" creates a sense of inflated ego instead of healthy self esteem. So does "I'm bad, I'm poor" create LOW self esteem. Instead, healthy affirmation should be "I am me, I have strength, I have weakness, I am human, I am good enough" so it can help us to be objective about ourselves
If you want to change a behaviour, look at the feeling that catalysed that behaviour and the thoughts that catalysed that feeling. By digging to the root of the problem you can solve it on the deepest level.
positive thinking is an aglosaxon invention :) you go to any other country and people don't show their teeth all the time. as well as life is not always nice, bright and happy. obviously we should focus on positive things but be aware that reality is more complex, and doesn't work as 1-0 or 1-1 :)
Okay, I get that. I have a c5-6 compression and all the joys that brings. Both AC’s are injured and painful. I have a sternoclavicular posterior dislocation and healed fracture. I live a life of pain, it’s like rolling in wasps everyday. How do I use these techniques to change that mind pattern. As the nerves are compressed and only sending signals. The body is a healing machine yet hear I am 8.5 years on and not healed yet? Is it my lack of good thinking? As I meditate, I visualise and I really believe the power of mind to do almost everything. The sternoclavicular joint dislocation caused multiple embolic strokes and yeah, I have that on top Of it all. 😂 Call me lucky as I’m still alive 🎉
What is meant by " accurate thinking"? Would it not be accurate if I were thinking about how depressed I felt, in other words being honest with my present reality, if I am truly feeling bummed out??
I agree! Practical thinking coupled with realistic achievable goals that will minimise risk of failure and slowly increase the cycle of success leading to more positivity in general!
So so true. It takes daily dedication to change the negative neural pathways, journaling can help a lot! Also getting outside & just walking, moving your body helps move you out of the negative thought patterns. I like what Dr amen says about ANTS- automatic Negative Thoughts. Don’t believe everything you think, but don’t suppress them either. Find healthy ways to reframe it. Negative thinking is actually addictive but it can get better!
Accurate thinking with a positive spin and radical acceptance is good to combine. You get to cope with cappy situations and not try to lie to yourself about something bad happening to you somehow being all roses and sunshine.
Omggg I was LITERALLY just going to post this exact same thing! 😂😂😂😂 He just uses the word 'accurate' in front of positive thinking. 😅 Also, what constitutes as accuracy in this dynamic? Who decides? And 'accurate' thinking with a 'positive twist' in someone who's in a NEGATIVE head space is impossible because you'd be lying to yourself which is NOT accurate. Omg this is hilarious. Worst psychiatrist ever but I LOVE watching him. His nonsense cracks me up.
So I was right the whole time, in the early 90's I was in my teen years. Went abroad and many attacked me with the positive toxicity. Hated it, it was like ignore the problem but force yourself to be happy instead. It was something forced which made me feel like I was in the twilight zone.
Yes there's a fine line between 'positive thinking' & what I've come to recognise as 'magical thinking' which is also inaccurate because I personally believe that magic exists & is possible, but it implies a lack of practical steps & consistent application... which seems to be needed for effective manifestation and creating helpful habits. "Accurate thinking with a positive spin" does seem an excellent goal.
This very process takes place when the word of God TRUTH SETS IN and truth sets in through exposure. I repeatedly read and studied Gods word and played audios of it during daily chores and car rides and it became a filter that purified my thoughts which as the Doctor says here affected my emotions to the point that joy replaced a hollow sense an empty loneliness and depression. Depression never came back. The filter is strong and everlasting guarding my thoughts feelings and behavior. It's miraculous.
That's marvellous. What better than to replace the void of depression & negative darkness than with God's word. It seems inevitable that the consequence of that would be beneficial emotions that well out of your subconscious that empower & bolster your being
KJV Philippians 4:8 8 Finally, brethren, WHATSOEVER THINGS ARE TRUE, whatsoever things are HONEST, whatsoever things are JUST, whatsoever things are PURE, whatsoever things are LOVELY, whatsoever things are OF GOOD REPORT; if there BE ANY VIRTUE, and if there BE ANY PRAISE, THINK on these things. GOD SAID IT FIRST!
A healthy childhood would have taught you. But unfortunately for us westerners, our parents were enticed to screw around, neglecting their parenting duties...
Yes, the TRUTH will set you free. A bit of optimism helps, sometimes giving someone or circumstances "the benwfit of the doubt" helps but denial or distortion only causes dysfunction.
Dr. Amen, I can vouch for correct positive thinking, the mind needs to be trained like programming a computer. I have improved my health and that of family members by using my subconscious mind but it took me time to learn the right way to do it. It also works for getting the job you want or for financial needs. Just saying 'I want to be healthy' doesn't work. I find repetition is the secret - the law of cause and effect. Every negative thought must be crushed and replaced by a positive one. You'll probably disagree but it's been my experience.😊 I'm 80 and thankfully enjoying excellent health.
The moment I awake I’m bombarded with bad I think demonic thoughts about myself and my life. So much so that I don’t want to wake up! 😢. But I’m a born again Christian and I know where these awful thoughts come from! I counteract them with Scripture and who God says I am!! ❤ The Devil is a LIAR
The first explanation of the straight line pattern is one way to explain it, I follow the understanding that it can start with any of them, thought, feeling, behavior, bodily sensations. Maybe the simplification is just for this video and audience.
I first watched you years ago when your videos and books were being promoted on public TV. I learned many new interesting things about the brain. I like listening to you today because you aren't a threat of judgement, meaning, I can get some helpful information without going through formal analysis, etc. I still like the fact that you believe in accessing common sense and healthy solutions before considering drugs, which many doctors like to prescribe. If everyone gets their nutrition straight, they're much less likely to have problems, physical or mental. I can't afford the brain scan, but I certainly approve the idea. Thanks for all you do.
Very rational and logical. Makes sense and I love it. I love him and his ideas. But a shortcut is to give your worries to Jesus. He gives you a new mind, a new heart with new desires.😅 I know, it’s that simple. Crazy…but it’s the solid truth, I tell ya. 😊
I have had no experiences for YEARS that would cause me to feel that life was anything even close to a gift. Living on “certainty that things are going to get better for me and my kids” with ZERO actual proof at some point becomes more painful than anything.
Respectfully, can we take another look at this theory? We’ve studied this and have been taught this and I have even used this theory on myself and the results have not generated more then we anticipated. I see this as great advice for a temporary fix when we are at a low. It works for surpassing immediate negative emotions within ourselves. Long term, it’s nearly exhausting exercises and it doesn’t feel genuine - so it doesn’t stick. I see kids with very negative emotions in situations or about themselves and come out of it like nothing happened. They don’t use this technique - they are simply present in their next thought. They come out of it like nothing happened. As adults, we focus so much on something and forget to live in the moment. I’ve studied this a little more and used this for myself as well with amazing results. Putting thoughts aside and focusing on the “now” or the present moment, as do children, seems to be the only permanent solution to anxiety and depression. Mine went away for 4 years after using this technique. I’ve gone downhill once I stopped living in the moment and worrying about everything (you know, those thoughts we keep playing I noir heads about yesterday or whatever will happen later). My worries and thoughts of the things that are not present in this moment is what caused my current downfall. “Self-awareness” proves itself to be the only technique to get us back to our pre-anxiety and pre-depression state. The catch is that most don’t want to be in that state of mind. That said, there would be no permanent cure for anyone and all you could do is find temporary solutions such as these. 😉
OK so when in a negative spin let’s see know what is the worst thing that could happen… And then finding the solution most of the time realizing things are not as huge as they seem to be. Talking it over thinking it over minimizes the power “it “has over The over thinking person or the worried one. As for me I go straight to the advocate. Advocate translated from Latin means lawyer because HE has our backs is our best defense. Who is this advocate? THE set a part spirit. Holy spirit given to us from THE Messiah Jesus Christ. He never leaves us
Like a virus in our encoding system, unprocessed traumatic memories can become sticking points that cause our mental and physical processes to malfunction. Early evidence of cellular memory shows that it's not just our brain, but our body's cells that could hold an imprint of past traumatic events. In other words, the thoughts can come after the above process, if at all.
I think if you correctly use positive thinking, you automatically achieve accurate thinking. The more positive, the more accurate! However, if you are going for accurate thinking, you can get stuck in the negative, without the creative problem solving positivity to think of a way out.
Tricking the brain into thinking positively delulu is such an underestimated power to conquering short term struggles/problems like getting through a tough day etc. For long term, some more work is necessary.
The founder of a biblical research center that I met in the mid-80's told us something similar. When you change the way you think you are tracing over carbon lines in the brain. It takes hundreds of tracing to build a new path. But only 1 negative to return to the old path. It is a constant effort to change or renew your thinking. But it is very possible to do. Thank you for sharing your version of this because I am in a spot where I needed to hear it.
How would you define that? I mean the “accurate thinking with a positive spin”. The “positive thinking” is pretty obvious but I’m not sure I quite understand the other one.
Im glad for meds and one year of therapy. My brain doesn't do what it should. Almost like shell shock. Supplements are good and I use them along with my meds
This guy has no concept of trauma and his pop psychology tropes are dangerous to genuinely wounded people who are attempting to overcome structural trauma. If you’ve tried this and it didn’t work, don’t worry you just need some deeper work and a word to the wise - stay away from gurus.
He is a quack, what he is saying IS positive thinking. This is the same man that said never be nice to anyone that is not nice to you. That is so wrong and unGodly. You always should be nice to people regardless how rude or mean they are to you.
Wow that’s awesome!! I instantly felt better when I heard this. Accurate thinking with a positive spin. Each and every one of us are different and differently made. I believe that in general, positive thinking works but it’s too general in the first place. One must customize the thinking patterns that will help us change for the better. Sometimes, it’s easier said than done.
I'M for sure a fan of positive thinking but you become what you think about all day.so if you can think positive about yourself instead of thinking negative it's a lot better
Where does mood fit in ? Being bipolar I try and try to change negative thoughts but time and and time again it takes time . I could be sitting on the toilet and suddenly I feel mentally Better . I am sick of people saying think positive….when I am trying to beat suicidal ideations
What happens if one person is doing the opposite of what you thought they were doing? What about lying and what that does to a family? 50+ years and still refusing to be truthful? Is that learned behavior? No one can ever believe what is said by this person!
If people would spend more time counting their blessings instead of their worries or problems it would help them a great deal. Make a gratitude journal and add to it daily even the small things.
I’ve heard a theory of emotions-thoughts rather than thoughts-emotions. I guess we don’t have control over either, but we can manage and train our brains. Is that right?
@amenclinic what if the illness we are dealing with creates a negative thought pattern with so much gravity that I cannot of my own will shift it? Is it possible I'm not allowing my mind but that the illness is forcing my mind into the negative?
