Growls, grunts, screeches, shrieks and coughs from Common Brushtail Possums having a territorial disagreement! The calls of the Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) are a familiar night sound in the Australian bush. This species has also adapted well to suburban areas and they sometimes be heard scurrying across (or inside!) rooves. Combined with these horrendous calls, the sounds of brushtail possums going about their business is a common source of fear in suburban Australia!
