The fact that even Vishy seems to be harder on this guy than he is on Pragg for some unknown reason must be a huge motivator for him. For example Vishy's comment that Gukesh is somehow more emotionally volatile (?) -- I couldn't imagine a more emotionally stable appearing person. He seems to be consistently underestimated by everyone including his own Vishy. Imagine seeing all these "candidates predictions" from everyone and their mom saying he was "likely to have a bad time." His soft spokenness hides a lot of steely determination. I hope he wins it all.
@krushna4181
@krushna4181 26 дней назад
He is emotionally volatile though and Pragg does well in almost every tournament, whereas Guki does very well or very badly.
@Rio_arc
@Rio_arc 26 дней назад
Vishy did not say emotionally... He said according to style of play... Guki generally used to have more decisive games which can go either way..... But this tournament he has changed quite a lot he has been more stable than some of the experienced guys as well... So props to him for stepping up for the big moment.... Though I was quite confused as to why many thought pragg was clearly better than guki... I feel they are more or less equal with one playing much better here
@mp9305

if this goes to tiebreaks I wouldn't bet on Gukesh unfortunately. He does not manage that well under time constraints. The other 3 will eat him alive I think

@@Rio_arc prag has been overhyped . Though he is a very strong candidate and I think not at his best here. But the discrimination here in india between both the players is huge ! @@Viva-la-de-hs4ub I'm from India... I know it... Not demeaning Pragg's achievement but ig "world Cup " name helped and his pic with his mother going viral (again very sweet and inspiring) helped with the hype and it became a trend to mention pragg which is why companies wanted him but ofc if guki pulls this off... There literally cannot be a better achievement and hopefully he gets the attention.... Also arjun who has quietly gained rating... I hope he does well in the next cycle as well

4 players who are in contention are among the top 8 Fide rating. While the 3 pre tournament favourates (Caruana, Naka, Nepo) are nos 2, 3 & 4 above Ding who is currently no 6, Gukesh is no 8. The question is a very bad one. To come up with a tactful answer may require some time and thinking for someone. If he shows empathy, then it might feel he's coming from a place of privilege when he doesn't know and understand their pain. If he says he's got nothing to say, it'll come off as cocky and not bothered - which is the kind of impression you may have gotten hearing his reply.

The only good reply I can think of now is: 1. I'll communicate my message to them in person. 2. It doesn't matter when someone gets knocked out of the winning race. Its winner takes all, so I am in no position to comment as I may not be the first one as well.

I think he dodged a bullet by not emphasizing on the country angle. Despite all that country flag next to the candidate on the playing table, it is after all an individual tournament. If you take an alternate stance and say you're playing for the country and taking help from your fellow countrymen who're also in the candidates, you'll be going down that troubling position that Soviets occupied before, where they were accused of gamesmanship to ensure only their fellow countrymen won.
