Potential treatment to stop dry AMD turning to wet AMD 

The causes of AMD are not fully understood, but scientists believe there are a few factors that are responsible, including age, genetics, smoking, exposure to sunlight, and diet. There are a few things that can be done to try and prevent the development of AMD: - Keep a healthy diet, eating lots of vegetables, including those that are high in lutein (spinach, kale, red peppers, broccoli etc.) - Stop smoking - those that smoke are four times more likely to develop AMD. - Reduce your exposure to direct sunlight, wearing sunglasses where possible. - Talk to your optometrist about taking supplements and which ones would be best for you Around 10-15% of people with dry AMD go on to develop wet AMD, so if you have dry AMD and you notice a sudden change in your vision, it is important that you contact your optometrist or hospital eye specialist urgently.
