I love all of the video content. I feel like I'm riding along. I wanted to be a truck driver as a kid but realized after getting my license I didn't like sitting in traffic, and now the way some people drive forget about it.
Right you are. I drove regional for a now defunct 'Less Than Truckload' (LTL) carrier for a couple of years and had to quit due to medical reasons. There's a lot more to driving than videos like this can show (for the most part). Delays everywhere typically. You're usually paid by the mile so when you are sitting you're not making money. Company drivers get screwed the worst. I used to get stuck behind trains in rail yards and have to sit there for *hours* waiting for the train to move. Then there's the waiting to get loaded (and unloaded, if you're doing OTR or Pick-up & Delivery (local)). When you're stuck in the middle of an accident you're not making money either...sometimes for *hours* .
You're a lot braver than I am. I didn't even want to reverse into the street with one of the biggest Vans Amazon had me driving in, and it had 360 degree cameras and sensors. I knew I could do it but I don't trust other drivers. I saw you back that thing into the street my first thought was you're insane 💀
Dude that’s crazy I used to work down on 29th. You passed that BP. They got 2/5$ 40s lol. Good to see you back here. Also that other pizzeria I think you’re thinking of is Lou Malnatis. Used to work for them before covid. You gotta try. Both are good in my opinion.
If you're ever in Nashville heading up north to Kentucky and run into thick traffic a good route to take is exit 27A Ellington Pkwy straight shot every time. Smooth sailing.
Your Cab looks very much like my 1986 Freightliner... I forget the Model maybe FLD.. It has an 18,000# set back front axle so manuverability is good.. Plus it's a day cab .. 44,000 rears a very short truck overall .. 400 Cummins and 13 speed..
Originally it was the SEARS Tower. I will never understand anyone that wants to pay a fortune to live in a box of a home high up & only way is elevator or boat load of stairs. Something for everyone. There was a time Rasim when Trucks & Cars showed some curtesy on the roadways. Those days went south. Ues to go to Chicago a lot. Was traveling from out West through Chicago & the bridge in Joilet about 1/2 hour out of Chicago, it was pouring rain & trailer was pulling flipped over the bridge. Then the commuter traffic. I got it back on the road & made the East Coast with just a few hours to spare. Another story another time. Safe Travels, Tommy :-)
There is always traffic, 24/7 in New York City, Chicago Washington DC, and mst of the time in Atlanta. At least in Atlanta, it is mostly clear between 2-4a.m., I know; because, I lived in Atlanta, Chicago, and have relatives that I visited all of my life in Washington DC.
IT is the sign of the times...just to save money on shipping from a warehouse...I was in the trucking business for 30 years and we had 5 different length trailers just to deliver in the city. From 3 different length straight trucks to 40 foot flyers with lift gates added. Getting product straight from the supplier and not knowing the area , a double sleep and a 53 foot swing door can be over 70 feet long...The inner city was built way before the 53 foot trailer became the norm...
Tight spots like that one makes you a great driver. I remember having docks to where I had to leave the truck turnt 90degree once I docked cause of how little space but yeah great job backing on that drop off in Chicago.
Yep, Chicago has two seasons...Construction and More Construction.....294 shut down today because a truck hauling firework tipped over and caught on fire...
Bro I think you’d be much better in a Reefer as far as rates and the places reefers go are very very rarely this tight. That was my number 1 thing when I switched from van to a Reefer, most places give u plenty and plenty of room and docks to park except the north east 😊
I’m debating getting my CDL with manual transmission. I know how to but in a 4 Wr and seeing you how you deal with it, I just get discouraged. It looks like a lot of a hustle with traffic and shifting. I’ll read opinions. I like your videos. Keep it up! 👍
What happens if you break down somewhere and your company sends a manual tractor for you to use? Guess they should know you only drive automatics, but one never knows.
I found that driving the tractor towards the opening and then turning it out, leaves your trailer wheels in a better angle to the dock, than if you just pull up leaving a 90 degree turn.
Bruh I live around the chi! Born here! I drive semi on the side and work for IDOT. When you come to the chi park at your drop the night before the Citgo docks are really tight
I was in 3 terminals in my 30 year career with my trucking company. I'm not sure how it works at warehouses but sleepers and swing door don't go well with a loaded dock. Our terminals ran 24/7 6 days a week, we made the independent driver wait till later in the afternoon to unload. We had over 120 city driver and our own over the road driver. The independent driver sometime made the yard a road block, they often came back to ask for another door or put their load in the wrong door altogether...
If that's ( 18:12 ) the I-55 and Cicero Avenue exit, have taken that exit many times to get to one of the Cicero rail yards to hook/drop trailers. See all the shipping containers being pulled?
I would hate backing a hood in Chicago. A sleeper is enough of a challenge at some places I been to. I bought a truck with a 205” wheelbase with sleeper just for that.
It’s funny watching him Have a attitude with the Chicago traffic and the Chicago 4 wheelers but the ones that’s from Chicago we know how to get around when to merge over and take what we can get semi and car 🤣 and anything with numbers and a street name is not downtown
And then there is me trying to back up my Chevrolet Spark in the parking lot at a shopping mall hitting a pillar ruined my bumper and side panel. Oh yeah and my car has park assistance
Its not just trucks not caring or cars not caring. The human race (The majority) just don't care. Most are so rude and just heartless. I work with a massive asshole. Be happy you are at least on the road and by yourself. Great video.
Only question I got from this whole video is how are you zooming in with Google maps using only one finger ? I have to pinch the screen . But I run google and my truck gps to compare them just like you . Jw
They seem to forget it. I work the yard at my terminal...I helped many a OTD with this problem...Slide the ( tandems ) wheels all the way back and the trailer won't get away from you so quick.. Higher at dock level so no un-needed bouncing and level at the dock height to remove larger freight. I don't know how many times we had to hunt down a road driver to slide them so we could unload something that wasn't clearing the with of our dock plates. Off walking a dog or in the bunk sleeping every time...
Did a good job. Chicago sucks for truckers. Especially at night. I see a lot of truckers around here refuse to deliver at night because of all the assaults and robberies on drivers. You can’t even stop completely at stop signs or you’ll get robbed.
doing all u can to go get that load thats what we do men and ladies out here i would did that set up like at 1am or 2am in the morning where its no traffic u here me drivers
@@carlgillespie5161 ah down there at that truck stop? That place is a pain to get out of lol, I picked up a short run in Cincinnati now. Appreciate it tho!
And he says it’s the tightest dock he has seen 😂 I’ve done docks where I had to jackknife park my truck one foot from walls, that’s what I call tight. What would he do??
I have watched two of your videos now. Have no idea what the outside of your truck looks like. But I have your dashboard memorized. Won’t be watching anymore of your videos. Stay Safe
