Did jiu-jitsu since I was young and everyone in high-school that was on the wrestling team got thrown around because they thought on my back meant done 😂 wrestling ain't shiii compared to a genuine technical ground game
@@SnailHatanlol you have no clue what you’re talking about. Everything in this video is something we did for warmups in wrestling. Headsprings, cartwheels, handstands and hand walks, as well as hip mobility and conditioning. Obviously you have never met a high school football player if you think a high school wrestler’s mobility is bad Are you comparing them to a gymnast?
I can not describe how scarily accurate this entire short is. From the warm ups, to the live wrestling, down to the “coach is gonna kill me”. I loved wrestling through High school and would love to do it again. (Edit: Holy crap 1.2k likes thank y’all so much! I’m really happy to see all the memories of wrestling stories shared in the comments (even if some of them have hazing tactics that shouldn’t be done), once again y’all are amazing!)
I remember our 215er almost got "reminder'd" to death for eating a hotdog in front of the coach while he was 16 lbs up leading into a meet in 3 days. Reminders are running-in-place burpees, where the coach hits the whistle until he's tired of watching you flop around like a gasping fish. You have zero idea of how long it will be, but it's always at least 5 minutes after you've puked your guts out. Named because it'll remind you to not fuck up again.
hwt gang. No feeling better than drinking sink water and making the little guys jealous lol (disclaimer: eating disorders caused by wrestling are a serious issue. You should not seriously harm yourself for marginal improvements at a high school level.)
For three of my four years I was the lowest weight and I was below it by a good amount so when it came time for Wayans I was told to gain as much weight as possible, that was a weird experience.
I had the same outcome but the complete opposite situation. I’ve always struggled to put on weight, I lose it easily tho. I was 5’5 and 130 pounds while I was wrestling. That weight never shifted up or down more than 2 pounds. I was having to eat 3200 calories a day to maintain that weight. If I wanted to gain weight I had to eat I had to eat 3700 minimum. I ate so much I felt like absolute dog shit after every meal.
@@JW-452man I feel that. I always struggled to put on weight. I wasn’t allowed to eat food that’s “bad” for you to help make getting those calories easier. All of my meals consisted of healthy low calorie foods but I had to eat ungodly amounts of it to actually reach my daily calorie goals. Every meal left me feeling sick. Got to the point I hated food and didn’t want to eat anymore. I still did tho cause I knew I needed to. the mental struggle was real
We had a 400lb guy in our heavyweight, and his senior year they hit the heavyweight division with a weight limit. Coach and him pulled some favors and got all of his class desks replaced with stationary bikes 😆
Yeah but that’s JV. I’m on varsity as a first year wrestler, wrestling up to a weight class that can be up to 60 pounds heavier than me. And I still have a positive record. If you’re a JV conference champ you are prob that close to being a great varsity wrestler, just put in that last bit of effort.
Nah that’s someone not even trying to grab the neck, it seemed more like those annoying assholes who’d just constantly almost smack you in the face or repeatedly yank your head down a bit just to bother/disorient you. Always hated the fuckers who did that lmao
@@ghostprime6320lmao had a teammate whose favorite move off the whistle was faking a poke in the opponent’s eyes with the fingers and then going straight for a blast double. dirty but worked like a charm
As a kid in the heavy weight class during high school I was all about trying to gain muscle watching my friends dehydrate themselves by wearing sauna suits or even trash bags and still miss weight is insane. Had one teammate who shaved his head to make weight😂 meanwhile I’m eating a steak sandwich nearby going fuck that
Basically this. I was 132-138 and never bothered cutting. One of the few advantages of being short and stocky, was stronger than the lanky dudes in my weight class regardless.
Wrestlers are by far the toughest athletes in high school by a mile. Not necessarily the most naturally athletic, but mentally and physically toughest.
@@Hobbs__cross country is one of the most athletic but it’s just legs and cardio. Most athletic would be a sport that used everything all together, upper/lower body strength, cardio, speed ect.
@@user-lp3pb1me6d honestly I dont know what the most “athletic” sport is but those gotta be up their. I imagine it would be something like a triathlon though.
Wrestled at 145/152 and when I graduated and stopped the weight cutting and went to my natural weight I was around 190. The weight cutting was brutal man.
@@Nando.M1 wouldn’t really say eating disorders though, cuz I ate like a mother fucker I just worked out a lot cuz I needed to be that weight. It’s really unhealthy and it’s definitely a bit of mental health problem but i think it’s different than a girl or guy who purges cuz they want to be skinny for looks and because it makes them feel better when wrestlers are doing it cuz they want to be the best and make weight to get an advantage rather than looking good. Idk.
@@beepobeepo weight cutting isn’t an eating disorder and I know purging and bulimia are the same, never said I was purging. I said weight cutting for sports is different than eating disorders, because you don’t do it for looks or because you’re mentally unstable. You do it to compete.
I wrestled first at 144. Then 150. Then 165. I got lucky with weight and never really had to cut. There was a couple times I wrestled up a weight class, like I wrestled 157 a few times my 150 year, so I would chug water before my weigh in.
I think we’re starting to see more of his life from this. Total jock, wrestled in high school, joined a frat in college but lived in dorms, became an EMT (though somehow never ascended to paragod), volunteers at music festivals, and became friends with Subtronics.
Man, I never did any serious weight cuts, but so much of this video was accurate to a wrestling practice, the warmups, the hand fighting, accurate as hell
I had no idea wrestling involved so much gymnastics! That said, I was always worried about my classmates who were really into it bc they looked so wasted.
BRO.........i can hear the locker room before weigh-ins also the fact you refferenced flying squirrel, literally SO few people could nail that move hahahaha. Funny videos dude!
alright dude knows how to fucking wrestle. i wrestled for 3 years in highschool and honestly i sucked but the training and conditioning really puts you through it. i have so much respect for wrestling. imagine going against someone's full body strength for 6 minutes. its fucking intense
This was spot on perfect execution. My high school wrestling practice was exactly what you see & hear, from Enter Sandman to that one CrossFit guy doing hand stand walks & other weird warmups.
